      • Pusillimonas ginsengisoli sp. nov., isolated from soil of a ginseng field

        Srinivasan, Sathiyaraj,Kim, Myung Kyum,Sathiyaraj, Gayathri,Kim, Yeon-Ju,Yang, Deok-Chun Microbiology Society 2010 International journal of systematic and evolutiona Vol.60 No.8

<P>Two novel strains of Gram-negative, non-sporulating, short rod-shaped, motile bacteria, designated DCY25T and DCY28, were isolated from soil of a ginseng field in South Korea and characterized in order to determine their taxonomic position. 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis showed that strains DCY25T and DCY28 belonged to the <I>Betaproteobacteria</I>, the highest sequence similarities being found with <I>Pusillimonas noertemannii</I> BN9T (96.9 %), <I>Bordetella trematum</I> DSM 11334T (95.9 %), <I>Achromobacter denitrificans</I> DSM 30026T (95.9 %), <I>Achromobacter insolitus</I> LMG 6003T (95.8 %) and <I>Pigmentiphaga kullae</I> K24T (95.5 %). Chemotaxonomic data revealed that both strains DCY25T and DCY28 possessed ubiquinone Q-8. Fatty acid analysis of strain DCY25T demonstrated the presence of 19 : 0 cyclo <I>ω</I>8<I>c</I> (22.8 %) and 16 : 0 (16.6 %). The polar lipid profiles of strains DCY25T and DCY28 included phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylglycerol, two unknown aminolipids and diphosphatidylglycerol. The G+C contents of strains DCY25T and DCY28 were 57.3 and 57.2 mol%, respectively. DNA-DNA relatedness values, biochemical and physiological characteristics strongly supported the genotypic and phenotypic differentiation of strains DCY25T and DCY28 from <I>Pusillimonas noertemannii</I>. Therefore, strains DCY25T and DCY28 should be classified in a novel species, for which the name <I>Pusillimonas ginsengisoli</I> sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is DCY25T (=KCTC 22046T =JCM 14767T); strain DCY28 (=KCTC 22047=JCM 14768) is a reference strain.</P>

<P>Strain DCY21T, a Gram-negative, gliding and rod-shaped aerobic bacterium was isolated from soil of a ginseng field in the Republic of Korea and characterized using a polyphasic approach in order to determine its taxonomic position. Comparative 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis revealed that strain DCY21T clustered with the species of the genus <I>Lysobacter</I>. It was closely related to <I>Lysobacter gummosus</I> LMG 8763T (97.9 %), <I>Lysobacter capsici</I> YC5194T (97.6 %), <I>Lysobacter antibioticus</I> DSM 2044T (97.5 %), <I>Lysobacter niastensis</I> DSM 18481T (97.2 %) and <I>Lysobacter enzymogenes</I> DSM 2043T (96.9 %). The major cellular fatty acids of strain DCY21T were iso-C15 : 0 (34.3 %), iso-C17 : 1<I>ω</I>9<I>c</I> (19.5 %) and iso-C17 : 0 (17.2 %) and the major isoprenoid quinone was Q-8. The major polar lipids of strain DCY21T were diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylglycerol and phosphatidyl-<I>N</I>-methylethanolamine. The G+C content of the total DNA was 65.4 mol%. The DNA-DNA relatedness values, and biochemical and physiological characteristics strongly supported the genotypic and phenotypic differentiation of strain DCY21T from species of the genus <I>Lysobacter</I>. Strain DCY21T therefore represents a novel species, for which the name <I>Lysobacter soli</I> sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is DCY21T (=KCTC 22011T =LMG 24126T).</P>

Curvature Ductility of RC Sections Based on Eurocode: Analytical Procedure

        Srinivasan Chandrasekaran,Luciano Nunziante,Giorgio Serino,Federico Carannante 대한토목학회 2011 KSCE JOURNAL OF CIVIL ENGINEERING Vol.15 No.1

Correct estimate of curvature ductility of reinforced concrete members has always been an attractive subject of study as it engenders a reliable estimate of capacity of buildings under seismic loads. The majority of the building stock needs structural assessment to certify their safety under revised seismic loads by new codes. Structural assessment of existing buildings, by employing nonlinear analyses tools like pushover, needs an accurate input of moment-curvature relationship for reliable results. In the present study, nonlinear characteristics of constitutive materials are mathematically modelled according to Eurocode, currently in prevalence and analytical predictions of curvature ductility of reinforced concrete sections are presented. Relationships, in explicit form, to estimate the moment-curvature response are proposed, leading to closed form solutions after their verification with those obtained from numerical procedures. The purpose is to estimate curvature ductility under service loads in a simpler closed form manner. The influence of longitudinal tensile and compression steel reinforcement ratios on curvature ductility is also examined and discussed. The spread sheet program used to estimate the moment-curvature relationship, after simplifying the complexities involved in such estimate, predicts in good agreement with the proposed analytical expressions. Avoiding somewhat tedious hand calculations and approximations required in conventional iterative design procedures, the proposed estimate of curvature ductility avoids errors and potentially unsafe design.

      • Deinococcus daejeonensis sp. nov., isolated from sludge in a sewage disposal plant

Srinivasan, Sathiyaraj,Kim, Myung Kyum,Lim, Sangyong,Joe, Minho,Lee, Myungjin Microbiology Society 2012 International journal of systematic and evolutiona Vol.62 No.6

<P>A Gram-stain-positive, strictly aerobic, spherical, non-motile red-pigmented bacterial strain, designated MJ27T, was isolated from a sludge sample of the Daejeon sewage disposal plant in South Korea. A polyphasic approach was used to study the taxonomic position of strain MJ27T. Strain MJ27T shared highest 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity with <I>Deinococcus grandis</I> DSM 3963T (98.8 %), <I>Deinococcus caeni</I> Ho-08T (97.5 %) and <I>Deinococcus aquaticus</I> PB314T (96.6 %.); levels of sequence similarity with the type strains of other <I>Deinococcus</I> species were less than 96.0 %. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that strain MJ27T belonged to the clade formed by members of the genus <I>Deinococcus</I> in the family <I>Deinococcaceae</I>. The G+C content of the genomic DNA of strain MJ27T was 67.6 mol%. The chemotaxonomic characteristics of strain MJ27T were typical of members of the genus <I>Deinococcus</I>, with MK-8 as the predominant respiratory quinone, C16 : 1ω7<I>c</I>, C15 : 1ω6<I>c</I>, C16 : 0 and C15 : 0 as major fatty acids (>12 %), ornithine as the diamino acid in the cell-wall peptidoglycan and resistance to gamma radiation [D10 (dose required to reduce the bacterial population by tenfold) >9 kGy]. The low levels of DNA-DNA relatedness reported here (5.3±1.5-29.2±2.3 %) indicate that strain MJ27T represents a species that is separate from its closest relatives in the genus <I>Deinococcus</I><I>.</I> On the basis of phylogenetic inference, fatty acid profile and other phenotypic properties, strain MJ27T is considered to represent a novel species of the genus <I>Deinococcus</I>, for which the name <I>Deinococcus daejeonensis</I> sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is MJ27T ( = KCTC 13751T = JCM 16918T).</P>

      • Oxygen-Promoted Chemical Vapor Deposition of Graphene on Copper: A Combined Modeling and Experimental Study

        Srinivasan, Bharathi Madurai,Hao, Yufeng,Hariharaputran, Ramanarayan,Rywkin, Shanti,Hone, James C.,Colombo, Luigi,Ruoff, Rodney S.,Zhang, Yong-Wei American Chemical Society 2018 ACS NANO Vol.12 No.9

<P>Mass production of large, high-quality single-crystalline graphene is dependent on a complex coupling of factors including substrate material, temperature, pressure, gas flow, and the concentration of carbon and hydrogen species. Recent studies have shown that the oxidation of the substrate surface such as Cu before the introduction of the C precursor, methane, results in a significant increase in the growth rate of graphene while the number of nuclei on the surface of the Cu substrate decreases. We report on a phase-field model, where we include the effects of oxygen on the number of nuclei, the energetics at the growth front, and the graphene island morphology on Cu. Our calculations reproduce the experimental observations, thus validating the proposed model. Finally, and more importantly, we present growth rate from our model as a function of O concentration and precursor flux to guide the efficient growth of large single-crystal graphene of high quality</P> [FIG OMISSION]</BR>

An Experimental Investigation on Geopolymer Concrete Utilising Micronized Biomass Silica and GGBS

Srinivasan Vediyappan,Pazhani Kandukalpatti Chinnaraj,Bharatkumar Bhajantri Hanumantraya,Sundar Kumar Subramanian 대한토목학회 2021 KSCE JOURNAL OF CIVIL ENGINEERING Vol.25 No.6

In the atmosphere greenhouse gases concentration has rapidly increased due to anthropogenic activities which cause global warming. Portland cement manufacturing process requires enormous amount of energy and also consumes huge quantity of natural resources. To overcome this issue, Portland cement free geopolymer concrete is produced with ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBS) as main binder and micronized biomass silica (MBS) is substituted in place of GGBS at different quantities. Experimental investigation highlighting mechanical properties and durability performance of geopolymer concrete mixes produced with GGBS and MBS are presented here. Rice husk is used in the manufacture of MBS. Compressive, flexural, split tensile strength, elastic modulus and durability parameters like water absorption, sorptivity, rapid chloride permeability test were conducted. Geopolymer concrete mix with 20 percent MBS and remaining GGBS as binder was found to have optimal strength and durability performance. However, the compressive strength was above the target design strength for all the geopolymer concrete mixes. This experimental investigation vindicates the feasibility of utilizing MBS as a binder raw material in geopolymer concrete production.
