In this study, we investigated whether changes in the pumping speed characteristics of dry pumps due to the conduit can be predicted through simulation. The intrinsic pumping speed was measured in the dry pump characteristic evaluation system of the Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science, and the pumping speed affected by the conduit was measured using the plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) equipment of the National NanoFab Center. Change in the pumping speed were predicted using conductance calculation equations and commercial vacuum-system simulation program, VacTran. A comparison of the results from the two approaches showed that the error rate was within ± 6.5%, confirming the reliability of the prediction. The simulation result was compared with the measured effective pumping speed, and it was confirmed that the error rate was within ± 10%, except in a specific part where the error rate was up to ± 40%. It is considered that the high error rate in some areas is as a result of automatically adjusting the rotation speed of the motor according to the power consumption of the inverter. However, a high simulation accuracy was obtained, demonstrating that the pumping speed characteristics can be predicted through simulation. This has potential application in the design of a vacuum system.

Sunmin Song,SangJun Lee,Jae Wook Jeon 제어로봇시스템학회 2013 제어로봇시스템학회 국제학술대회 논문집 Vol.2013 No.10
A correction method for local stereo matching disparity images is an essential technology in stereo vision. We propose the hardware architecture for correcting a real-time disparity image. This method uses the similarity between the pixel of invalid disparity value and the neighboring pixels to estimate an alternative value for the invalid value. The experimental results showed that the proposed system can correct a disparity image in real time for 60fps image processing.

As inter-Korean relations progress, the issue of natural disasters which could directly affect the lives of the people in both Koreas, has not yet been discussed. Considering the current status of inter-Korean relations and the ongoing disaster-related damage in North Korea, it is imperative to establish a technical plan at the pangovernmental level to reduce the damage from natural disasters. The purpose of this study is to secure the Korea Peninsula against natural disasters by organizing South Korea’s science and technologies related to natural disasters in order to reduce the damage, and to evaluate the applicability of said technologies. The situation of natural disasters in North Korea for 17 years has been summarized and reclassified based on eight types of natural disasters. Technologies related to natural disasters in South Korea were also investigated and reclassified. Based on the data, a priority evaluation was performed and the prioritization of technology application for each natural disaster type in North Korea was calculated through a quadrant analysis. As a result, the three major categories of high-priority technologies were classified as natural disaster monitoring with remote sensing and spatial information technology, construction of research basis and database based on geographic information system (GIS) and integrated management of complex natural disasters.

Purpose: We performed this retrospective study to investigate the outcomes of patients with hemangioma of the cavernous sinus after fractionated radiotherapy. Materials and Methods: We analyzed 10 patients with hemangioma of the cavernous sinus who were treated with conventional radiotherapy between January 2000 and December 2016. The median patient age was 54 years (range, 31-65 years), and 8 patients (80.0%) were female. The mean hemangioma volume was 34.1 cm 3 (range, 6.8-83.2 cm 3), and fractionated radiation was administered to a total dose of 50-54 Gy with a daily dose of 2 Gy. Results: The median follow-up period was 6.8 years (range, 2.2-8.8 years). At last follow-up, the volume of the tumor had decreased in all patients. The average tumor volume reduction rate from the initial volume was 72.9% (range, 18.9-95.3%). All 10 of the cranial neuropathies observed before radiation therapy had improved, with complete symptomatic remission in 9 cases (90%) and partial remission in 1 case (10%). No new acute neurologic impairments were reported after radiotherapy. One probable compressive optic neuropathy was observed at 1 year after radiotherapy. Conclusion: Fractionated radiotherapy achieves both symptomatic and radiologic improvements. It is a well-tolerated treatment modality for hemangiomas of the cavernous sinus.

Objective-Non-adherence to medication is a recognized problem in psychiatric patients and may be one of the most challenging aspects of treatment for patients with schizophrenia. Failure of follow-up care after discharge greatly increases non-adherence to prescribed medications, relapse and rehospitalization. However, it is still unknown whether and how much outpatient follow-up visits can mitigate the risk of rehospitalization. Therefore we sought to investigate the continuity and effectiveness of outpatient care after inpatient discharge and its effect on rehospitalization of patients with schizophrenia. Methods-Data were extracted from National Health Insurance Claim Database covering the period from 2007 through 2010. We identified 10,246 patients aged 18 years or older who were admitted in psychiatric facilities with the diagnosis of schizophrenia between January 1 and December 31 in 2007. The number of outpatient visits within 60 days after discharge from index admission was defined as the indicator for the continuous care and rehospitalization was inspected during the following 36-month period. Cox’s proportional hazard model was used to examine the factors affecting the risk of rehospitalization including the number of outpatient visits, age, sex, comorbidities, antipsychotics, and characteristics of medical institution. Results-We found that 12.7% (n=1,327) of the patients visited psychiatric outpatient department once within 60 days after hospital discharge, 34.8% (n=3,626) twice, and 27.8% (n=2,900) more than three times. Patients taking atypical antipsychotics showed higher proportion in 2 or more outpatient visits, whereas patients taking typical antipsychotics showed higher proportion in one or no outpatient visits. Cox hazard ratios of rehospitalization for the factor of 3 or more outpatient visits referenced to that of no follow-up visit were 0.567 (0.428–0.750, 95% confidence interval) within 90 days, 0.673 (0.574–0.789) within 180 days, 0.800 (0.713–0.898) within a year, 0.906 (0.824–0.997) within 2 years, and 0.993 (0.910–1.084) within 3 years. Conclusion-Although continuous outpatient treatment is important for relapse prevention, patients with schizophrenia showed a low rate of outpatient visit as 62.6% of total patients in 2 or more visits within 60 days after discharge. Lack of follow-up treatment might lead to increase psychotic symptoms and raised risk of relapse and rehospitalization. Our data suggest that the number of outpatient visits within 60 days after discharge in patients with schizophrenia is an important indicator of rehospitalization within a year. Therefore, further efforts to examine factors affecting failure of outpatient follow-up after discharge are warranted.

Purpose: To validate the 8th edition of the American Joint Committee on Cancer/Union for International Cancer Control (AJCC/UICC) TNM staging system for human papillomavirus (HPV)-related oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC) and investigate whether a modified classification better reflects the prognosis. Materials and Methods: Medical records of patients diagnosed with non-metastatic HPV-related OPSCC between 2010 and 2016 at a single institution were retrospectively reviewed. HPV status was determined by immunohistochemical analysis of p16 and/or HPV DNA polymerase chain reaction (PCR). We reclassified TNM stage T0-1 and N0-1 as group A, T2-3 or N2 as B, and T4 or N3 as C. Survival analysis according to 8th AJCC/UICC TNM staging and the modified classification was performed. Results: Of 383 OPSCC patients, 211 were positive for HPV DNA PCR or p16. After exclusion, 184 patients were included in this analysis. Median age was 56 years (range, 31 to 81 years). Most primary tumors were in the palatine tonsil (148 tumors, 80%). The eighth AJCC/UICC TNM classification could not differentiate between stage I and II (p = 0.470) or II and III (p = 0.209). Applying modified grouping, the 3-year overall survival rate of group A was significantly higher than that of group B and C (98% vs. 91%, p = 0.039 and 98% vs. 78%, p < 0.001, respectively). Differentiation between group B and C was marginally significant (p = 0.053). Conclusion: The 8th AJCC/UICC TNM staging system did not clearly distinguish the prognosis of stage II from that of other stages. Including the T2N0-1 group in stage II may improve prognostic stratification.
