      • Fingertip Force and Muscle Activation Patterns at Varying grasp Objects

        In this study, we tried to collect and analyze the kinetic and neurological information such as finger-tip forces and EMG for several representative (the most commonly used) grasp movements to explore their force and muscle activation patterns based on the newly defined grasp taxonomy. Ten able-bodied (five males, five females) volunteered to participate and they performed five different grasp tasks: holding a bottle (Bottle), turning a doorknob (Knob), cutting with a knife (Knife), brushing with a toothbrush (Toothbrush), holding a thick book (Book) after we attached five force sensitive resistor (FSR) sensors on the tip of fingers and four surface electromyogram (sEMG) electrodes on the lower arm of the subject’s dominant hand. Root Mean Square (RMS) and Mean Absolute Value (MAV) from the mean maximum values of sEMG(%) and fingertip force(kgf) of all ten subjects were extracted as features. The classification from the feature dataset using convolutional neural network (CNN) was applied and analyzed the results of accuracy and repeatability. The mean maximum values of EMG and fingertip forces during five different grasp tasks, and the MAV and RMS which were extracted features from the above were compared with task pairs. They showed significant differences in comparison of four pairs of tasks which were Bottle and Knife (p = 0.005 in both MAV and RMS), Bottle and Toothbrush (p = 0.005in both MAV and RMS), Bottle and Book (p = 0.013 in both MAV and RMS), Knob and Toothbrush (p = 0.047 in MAV and p = 0.028 in RMS). The classification accuracy of the Bottle grasp task was the largest at 60% (true positive predictive rate is 60% and false postive rate is 40%), while the other tasks showed an 30-40% of accuracy. Repeatability was 60% in the Bottle task and 50% in the Knob task, and those of the other tasks were ranged 30-40%. Overall, it is believed that the small number of samples in the study is the main reason of the low accuracy and repeatability of the classification. A total of nine variables (four sEMG and five forces) showed different significances in paired mean comparisons for five grasp tasks (graspping a bottle, turning a doorknob, cutting with a knife, brushing teeth with a toothbrush, holding a thick book). A comparison of the reduced variable from feature extraction also showed different classification accuracy for five grasp tasks.

      • Microfluidic Device for Analysis of Lymphatic Breast Cancer Metastasis by Interleukin 6

        Cancer metastasis is the primary reason of tumor-associated deaths. By replicating the precise microenvironment of the lymphatic metastasis in vitro, a microfluidic chip containing lymph vessel-blood vessel-tissue (LBT) channels was fabricated to provide useful platform for understanding cancer cell migration, colonization, and invasion. The middle of the channels were filled with collagen-based hydrogel to mimick the tissues in vivo. HUVECs and HLECs were cultivated to form a layer on the side of the hydrogel in the LBT chip. Using this LBT chip, the inflammatory cytokine, interleukin 6 (IL-6), and their communication in the lymphatic metastasis were successfully confirmed. The IL-6 treatment to various subtypes of breast cancer cells induced epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) and enhanced the tissue invasion ability (8-fold). Furthermore, the human vein endothelial cells growed toward the lymph-vessel channel and the VEGF secretion from human lymphatic endothelial cells was observed after IL-6 treatment. This fabricated LBT chip can be applied to study the intercellular communication as well as the tumor microenvironment under the variety of extracellular stimuli such as inflammatory cytokines, hypoxia, nutrient deficiency, and stromal reactions.

      • Competition between ionic adsorption and desorption on electrochemical double layer capacitor electrodes in acetonitrile solutions at different currents and temperatures

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>The operation of electrochemical double layer capacitors at high currents and viscosities and at low temperatures is difficult. Under these conditions, ion transport is limited, and some of the electrode area is unavailable for adsorption, which results in a low capacitance. Increasing the temperature helps to increase the ionic movement, leading to enhanced adsorption and increased capacitance. In contrast, ion desorption (self-discharge) surpasses the capacitance improvement when ions gain a high amount of energy with increasing temperature. For example, temperatures as high as 70 °C cause a very high rate of ionic desorption in acetonitrile solutions in which the individual properties of the two electrolytes—tetraethylammonium tetrafluoroborate (TEA BF<SUB>4</SUB>) and ethylmethylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate (EMI BF<SUB>4</SUB>)—are not distinguishable. The capacitance improvement and self-discharge are balanced, resulting in a capacitance peak at mid-range temperatures, i.e., 35–45 °C, in the more viscous electrolyte, i.e., TEA BF<SUB>4</SUB>. The less viscous electrolyte, i.e., EMI BF<SUB>4</SUB> has a wider capacitance peak from 25 to 45 °C and higher capacitance than that of TEA BF<SUB>4</SUB>.       • Tetramethylammonium tetrafluoroborate: The smallest quaternary ammonium tetrafluoroborate salt for use in electrochemical double layer capacitors

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Tetramethylammonium (TMA) ion is the smallest quaternary ammonium ion (QAI) that can be used in electrochemical double layer capacitor (EDLC) applications. Small ions improve the capacitance of EDLCs by increasing the adsorbed ionic density. Herein, we first report the utilization of TMA BF<SUB>4</SUB> in EDLCs and the properties of the smallest QAI are investigated. However, because of the poor solubility of TMA BF<SUB>4</SUB>, it must be combined with another salt, forming a binary-salt electrolyte. In this study, the maximum TMA BF<SUB>4</SUB> concentration used was 5 mol%. These binary salt mixtures contain a conventional electrolyte salt such as tetraethylammonium BF<SUB>4</SUB>, trimethylethylammonium BF<SUB>4</SUB>, or spiro-bipyrrolidinium BF<SUB>4</SUB>. In addition, 4–5 mol% TMA BF<SUB>4</SUB> was added to the conventional salt solution and a binary-salt electrolyte was obtained, leading to 12–13% increase in the capacitance compared to that of a 100 mol% conventional electrolyte at 10 A g<SUP>−1</SUP>.         Immediate Effect of TFL Stretching in Weight Bearing Versus Non-Weight Bearing

        Purpose : The purpose of this paper is to compare the immediate effects of tensor fascia latae (TFL) stretching with weight bearing (standing position) or non-weight bearing (side-lying position). Methods : The study was conducted on 30 adults (12 men, 18 women) in their 20s. Modified Thomas's test was conducted to find out if the TFL muscle has a tightness for current study. This study randomly divided the subjects into two groups and set the standing stretching group (n=15) or the side-lying stretching group (n=15). Both groups applied self-stretching under the therapist's supervision. TFL stretching in each positions was performed 30 seconds per set, 3 times, and 30 seconds per set could rest. The Ober test were conducted to investigate the effect of TFL stretching in each positions. Results : For the Ober test measurements within each group, both groups significantly increased after intervention compared to before (p< .05). There was no significant difference between the groups (p >.05). Conclusion : TFL stretching in standing position and side-lying position increased the range of motion of the TFL muscle. Therefore, if it is difficult to apply TFL stretching in standing position (weight bearing) due to pain or other reasons, it will be able to TFL stretching in side-lying position (non-weight bearing).

        여성장애인전문복지관 이용경험 연구

        본 연구는 여성 장애인복지관의 이용경험을 통해 여성장애인의 복지욕구를 면밀하게 탐색하고 여성장애인 복지사업 증진 방안을 제안하고자 했다. 질적연구방법을 적용하였으며, 의도적 표집을 통해 여성 장애인복지관 이용 경험이 있는 여성장애인을 17명을 모집하여 포커스그룹인터뷰(FGI)를 실시했다. 분석결과, 여성장애인에게 여성 장애인복지관은 단순히 서비스를 이용하는 곳이 아니라, 서로의 공감과 지지를 얻고 사회적 억압으로부터 자유를 얻는 공간이었다. 또한 여성장애인들은 여성 장애인복지관 이용을 통해 개인차원, 가족차원 그리고 사회적 차원의 긍정적 변화를 경험하고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 한편, 일반 장애인복지관은 여성장애인을 고려하지 않는 시스템과 운영방식의 문제가 있는 것으로 나타났고, 일반 종합사회복지관은 낮은 장애이해가 문제로 나타났다. 여성장애인 고유의 욕구를 충족하기 위한 최적의 공간은 여성장애인복지관이었다. 향후 여성장애인 전문복지관 증가가 현실적으로 어렵다면, 건강, 직업, 출산ㆍ가사ㆍ양육에 대한 지원 확대 및 지역 내 또래 여성장애인과의 네트워킹 활성화 사업을 통해 여성장애인복지 서비스의 다변화가 필요하다. The purpose of this study was to explore the experience of using welfare centers for women with disabilities and to suggest ways to promote welfare programs for women with disabilities. A qualitative research method was applied and a focus group interview (FGI) was conducted by recruiting 17 women with disabilities who had experience using women"s welfare centers through intentional sampling. As a result, the women"s disability welfare center was not just a service for women with disabilities, but a space for empathy and support from each other and freedom from social oppression. In addition, women with disabilities attending welfare centers for women with disabilities are experiencing positive changes at the individual, family and social levels. On the other hand, the general welfare center for the disabled has problems with the system and operation that does not take into account the needs of women with disabilities. The optimal space for meeting the needs of women with disabilities was women"s welfare center. If it is difficult to establish a professional welfare center for women with disabilities in the future, it is necessary to diversify welfare services for women with disabilities by expanding support for health, occupation, childbirth, housework, and nurturing and promoting networking with women with disabilities in their local communities.
