<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>The Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute (KAERI) is planning the construction of the KIJANG Research Reactor (KJRR), which is currently undergoing licensing procedures. The fission <SUP>99</SUP>Mo production process (FMPP) of the KJRR generates intermediate-level liquid waste (ILLW) and alumina residue (Al<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB> cake), which is a solid waste. In the present study, an efficient method of reducing the amount of generated cement waste form by mixing the ILLW and Al<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB> cake together, into low-level waste, was developed. The purpose of this study was to determine if the cement waste form produced by mixing cement with the waste from the FMPP would satisfy the acceptance criteria of a low- and intermediate-level waste disposal facility in Korea. The process operating range and the optimum operating conditions were found by investigating the mixability of the cement waste form, by considering the presence of free standing water after curing, and by performing a water immersion test depending on the mixing ratios of Portland cement (type I), ILLW, and Al<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB> cake. The feasibility of treating the cement waste form produced under the optimum operating conditions was evaluated in relation to the acceptance criteria of a low- and intermediate-level waste disposal facility in Korea. The results showed that the cement waste form satisfied the acceptance criteria with regard to structural stability (compressive strength test, thermal cycling test, water immersion test, and irradiation test) and leachability (leaching test).</P>
A Secure and Robust Connectivity Architecture for Smart Devices and Applications

<P>Convergence environments and technologies are urgently coming close to our life with various wireless communications and smart devices in order to provide many benefits such as connectivity, usability, mobility, portability, and flexibility as well as lower installation and maintenance costs. Convergence has brought important change not only in the way we live but also in the way we think. It is the progress towards the attempt to create and to evolve new valuable services through the device convergence and fusion of in-home, office, and various environments around the personal mobile apparatus. Based on the dynamic trends of convergence, it is widely argued that the increased requirements on secure and robust connectivity between a variety of mobile devices and their applications provide us the era of real pervasive computing environment. Thus, in this paper, we present a novel connectivity architecture using RF4CE-(Radio Frequency for Consumer Electronics-) based wireless zero-configuration and enhanced key agreement approach. We analyze the security and performance of our proposed approach by the development of the prototype H/W and the construction of a testbed with CE and mobile devices.</P>
장생도라지 생리활성물질이 Streptozotocin으로 유발된 당뇨쥐에 미치는 영향

Streptozotocin으로 유발된 당뇨쥐에 있어서 장생도라지로부터 분리된 생리활성물질(이눌린, 사포닌, 올리고당) 및 열수추출물을 5주동안 투여한 결과는 다음과 같다. 실험동물의 체중은 이눌린(IN)과 올리고당(OS) 투여군에서는 다소 유의적인 증가를 보였으며, 혈당은 시료투여군에서는 다소 감소하는 경향을 보였는데, 특히 장생도라지 이눌린 투여군(IN)과 총추출물 투여군(WE)에서는 각각 21.3%, 21.2%로 유의적인 감소효과를 보였다. 시료투여군의 혈청 총콜레스테롤은 당뇨대조군에 비해 감소하였는데, 특히 이눌린 투여군(IN)은 정상군 수준을 나타내었고, HDL 콜레스테롤은 당뇨유발군이 정상군보다 높은 수준이었으며, 시료투여군 간의 유의적인 차이는 보이지 않았다. 중성지방의 함량은 장생도라지의 이눌린 및 이눌린ㆍ사포닌 혼합 투여군에서 감소효과가 가장 높게 나타났다. 간, 신장, 심장, 비장 및 고환의 평균 무게를 측정한 결과, 시료투여군에서 전반적으로 간장 및 심장의 무게가 낮아지는 경향을 보였으며, 신장은 당뇨유발군 모두에서 무게가 증가하였다. 혈청 단백질과 알부민 농도는 정상군에 비하여 당뇨대조군 및 시료투여군 모두에서 유의하게 감소되었으며, 당뇨유발군의 혈청 인슐린 농도는 이눌린 투여군(IN)에서 다소 높은 경향을 보였다. 뇨중 에너지 대사물의 조성을 관찰한 결과, 뇨단백은 이눌린(IN) 및 총추출물(WE) 투여군에서 정상군 수준으로 감소되었고, 당뇨유발군에서는 비교적 높은 뇨당이 검출되었으나 이눌린 투여군(IN)에서 검출되지 않았다. This study were investigated the effects of physiologically active compounds isolated from Platycodon grandiflorum on streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats. The experimental groups were divided into six groups, normal, diabetic control (CM), and four experimental groups (inulin (IN), inulin+saponin (IS), oligosaccharide (OS), and total extract group (WE)). The rats have free access to water and diet. Experimental groups were administered orally with inulin (630 mg/mL), inulin (630 mg/mL)+saponin (25.2 mg/mL), oligosaccharide (367.5 mg/mL), and total extract (225 mg/mL) into the diabetic rats for 5 weeks after STZ injection; The levels of fasting blood glucose in diabetic control increased by 10.0% for 5 weeks, but the level of blood glucose in inulin and total extract groups decreased by 21.3% and 21.2%, respectively. The concentrations of total cholesterol and triglyceride in serum of diabetic rats fed physiologically activity compounds were lower than those in diabetic control rats. HDL-cholesterol was similar among all the groups. Weights of testicle and heart were lighter, while weight of kidney was significantly increased in diabetic groups than normal group. The concentrations of serum protein insulin and albumin in diabetic groups were significantly decreased compared with those of the normal group. Urinary glucose excretion was decreased in inulin group than other diabetic groups.
