Nonlinear Adaptive Decentralized Stabilization Control for Multimachine Power Systems
Shan-Ying Li,이상성,윤용태,박종근 제어·로봇·시스템학회 2009 International Journal of Control, Automation, and Vol.7 No.3
This paper presents a decentralized adaptive backstepping controller to dampen oscillations and improve the transient stability to parametric uncertainties in multimachine power systems. The proposed design on the ith synchronous generator uses only local information and operates without the need for remote signals from the other generators. The design of the nonlinear controller is based on a modified fourth-order nonlinear model of a synchronous generator, and the automatic voltage regulator model is considered so as to decrease the steady state voltage error. The construction of both the con-trol law and the associated Lyapunov function is systematically designed within the design methodol-ogy. A 3-machine power system is used to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed controller over two other controllers, namely a conventional damping controller (power system stabilizer) and one designed using the feedback linearization techniques.
Elevated Mean Platelet Volume is Associated with Presence of Colon Cancer
Li, Jia-Ying,Li, Ying,Jiang, Zheng,Wang, Rui-Tao,Wang, Xi-Shan Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.23
Background: Colon cancer is the second most common cancer in developed countries. Activated platelets play a key role in inflammation and atherothrombosis, with mean platelet volume (MPV) is an early marker of platelet activation. The aim of the study was to clarify the relevance of MPV in patients with colon cancer. Materials and Methods: We measured MPV levels in 128 patients with colon cancer before and after surgery, and 128 controls matched for age, gender, body mass index (BMI) and smoking status. The odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for colon cancer were calculated using multivariate logistic regression analyses across MPV quartiles. Results: Patients with colon cancer had higher MPV compared with controls. Surgical tumor resection resulted in a significant decrease in MPV levels (11.4 fL vs 10.7 fL; p<0.001). A positive correlation between MPV and tumor-nodule-metastases (TNM) stage was found. Furthermore, after adjusting for other risk factors, the ORs (95%CIs) for colon cancer according to MPV quartiles were 1.000, 2.238 (1.014-4.943), 3.410 (1.528-7.613), and 5.379 (2.372-12.198), respectively. Conclusions: The findings show that patients with colon cancer have higher MPV levels compared with controls, and these are reduced after surgery. In addition, MPV was found to be independently associated with the presence of colon cancer. Further studies are warranted to assess the utility of MPV as a novel diagnostic screening tool for colon cancer.
Topological Analysis of Chaos Characteristics in a Power System
Li, Shan-Ying,Lee, Sang-Seung,Park, Jong-Keun The Korean Institute of Electrical Engineers 2004 KIEE International Transactions on Power Engineeri Vol.a4 No.1
This paper proposes a totally new method in the chaos characteristics' analysis of power systems, the introduction of topological invariants. Using a return histogram, a bifurcation graph was drawn. As well, the periodic orbits and topological invariants - the local crossing number, relative rotation rates, and linking number during the process of period-doubling bifurcation and chaos were extracted. This study also examined the effect on the topological invariants when the sensitive parameters were varied. In addition, the topological invariants of a three-dimensional embedding of a strange attractor were extracted and the result was compared with those obtained from differential equations. This could be a new approach to state detection and fault diagnosis in dynamical systems.

Ligand-dependent or independent oligomerization of receptor protein tyrosine kinase (RPTK) is often an essential step for receptor activation and intracellular signaling. The novel oncogene with kinase-domain (NOK) is a unique RPTK that almost completely lacks an ectodomain, expresses intracellularly and activates constitutively. However, it is unknown whether NOK can form oligomer or what function oligomerization would have. In this study, two NOK deletion mutants were generated by either removing the ectodomain (NOKECD) or including the endodomain (NOK-ICD). Co-immunoprecipitation demonstrated that the transmembrane (TM) domain of NOK was essential for its intermolecular interaction. The results further showed that NOK aggregated more closely as lower order oligomers (the dimer- and trimer-sized) than either deletion mutant did since NOK could be cross-linked by both Sulfo-EGS and formaldehyde, whereas either deletion mutant was only sensitive to Sulfo-EGS. Removing the NOK TM domain (NOK-ICD) not only markedly promoted higher order oligomerization, but also altered the subcellular localization of NOK and dramatically elevated the NOK-mediated constitutive activation of extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK). Moreover, NOK-ICD but not NOK or NOKECD was co-localized with the upstream signaling molecule RAS on cell membrane. Thus, TM-mediated intermolecular contacting may be mainly responsible for the constitutive activation of NOK and contribute to the autoinhibitory effect on RAS/MAPK signaling.

Purpose The measuring Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) DNA is an important predictor of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). This study evaluated the predictive value of pretreatment serum amyloid A (SAA) and C-reactive protein (CRP) comparing with EBV DNA in patients with NPC. Materials and Methods In an observational study of 419 non-metastatic NPC patients, we prospectively evaluated the prognostic effects of pretreatment SAA, CRP, and EBV DNA on survival. The primary endpoint was progress-free survival (PFS). Results The median level of SAA and CRP was 4.28 mg/L and 1.88 mg/L, respectively. For the high- SAA group (> 4.28 mg/L) versus the low-SAA ( 4.28 mg/L) group and the high-CRP group (> 1.88 mg/L) versus the low-CRP ( 1.88 mg/L) group, the 5-year PFS was 64.5% versus 73.1% (p=0.013) and 65.2% versus 73.3% (p=0.064), respectively. EBV DNA detection showed a superior predictive result, the 5-year PFS in the EBV DNA 1,500 copies/mL group was obviously different than the EBV DNA < 1,500 copies/mL group (62.2% versus 77.8%, p < 0.001). Multifactorial Cox regression analysis confirmed that in the PFS, the independent prognostic factors were including EBV DNA (hazard ratio [HR], 1.788; p=0.009), tumour stage (HR, 1.903; p=0.021), and node stage (HR, 1.498; p=0.049), but the SAA and CRP were not included in the independent prognostic factors. Conclusion The results of SAA and CRP had a certain relationship with the prognosis of NPC, and the prognosis of patients with high level of SAA and CRP were poor. However, the predictive ability of SAA and CRP was lower than that of EBV DNA.

Baicalin, a flavonoid, has a wide range ofpharmacological properties, including immunomodulation. The objective of this study was to investigate the effect ofbaicalin on the balance of T helper 17 (Th17) and regulatoryT (Treg) cells in a colitis model. The rat colitis modelwas induced by 2,4,6-trinitrobenzene sulfonic acid(TNBS). Baicalin (10 ml/kg, each) or mesalazine (positivecontrol) was then administered orally for 7 days. Inflammatoryand immunological responses were evaluated bypathology, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, real-timepolymerase chain reaction, western blot analysis, and flowcytometry. Our study showed that baicalin not only significantlyattenuated TNBS-induced colitis by reducing thedisease activity index as well as macroscopic and microscopicscores, but it also improved the weight loss andshortening of the colon. Baicalin treatment also induced asignificant decrease in the levels of inflammatory mediators, including the myeloperoxidase activity, the levels oftumor necrosis factor a, IL-1b, and Th1-related cytokinesIL-12 and IFN-c. Furthermore, the beneficial effects ofbaicalin seem to be associated with regulation of the Th17and Treg paradigm. We found that administration ofbaicalin significantly downregulated the number of Th17cells and the levels of Th17-related cytokines (IL-17 andIL-6) and retinoic acid receptor-related orphan receptor ct. In contrast, there was an increase in Treg cells numbers,Treg-related cytokines transforming growth factor-b andIL-10, and forkhead box P3. Our results suggest that theanti-inflammatory effect of baicalin may be linked tomodulation of the balance between Th17 and Treg cells inTNBS-induced ulcerative colitis.

The single stroke hot deformation is a simple method for the fabrication of anisotropic NdFeB magnets. In order to obtain the optimum conditions, Taguchi method of experimental design was applied in this work. The optimum conditions obtained on the basis of coercivity in Taguchi analysis was a little different from those of remanence and maximum energy product. The contribution of each factor to magnetic properties was calculated in detail.

A novel double-walled microsphere composed of chitosan, sodium cellulose sulfate (NaCS) and sodiumtripolyphosphate (TPP) was prepared. TPP was used as ionic crosslinker. The morphology of the microspheres wasobserved by microscope and SEM, and the results showed that the double-walled microsphere was smooth outside, with rough interior surface. FTIR spectra analysis was performed to investigate the PEC formation among chitosan,NaCS, and TPP. In vitro release studies of BSA showed that the double-walled microspheres had regular and sustainablerelease profiles in simulated colonic fluid (SCF). Our results indicated that the double-walled microspheres preparedcould be used as a candidate protein drug carrier for the colon.
