Genome-wide identification and analysis of Subtilisin-like serine protease gene family in banana (Musa accuminta L.) and their expression under abiotic stresses

        Purwar Shalini,Chugh Vishal,Singh Poornima,Srivastava Akhilesh Kumar,Singh Akhilesh Kumar,Mishra Akhilesh Chandra,Singh Ashutosh,Singh Chandra Mohan 한국식물생명공학회 2024 Plant biotechnology reports Vol.18 No.1

Subtilisin-like serine proteases (SBT), a serine proteolytic enzymes play an important role in plant growth function and during different stresses responses. The systematic analysis of the SBT gene family in Musa acuminate (MaSBT) has been done and their responses to abiotic stresses in banana variety cv. G-9 were also analyzed. Total of 67 MaSBT genes were identified and based on phylogeny these were grouped into five districted subgroups. Cis-acting element analysis indicated that almost all MaSBT promoters contain regulatory elementary related to growth and development, hormonal regulation, and stress responses. The gene structure and domain analysis showed a maximum of seventeen exons and four functional domains in MaSBT. The 42 orthologous genes, 07 MaSBT paralogous genes were also identified through synteny analysis. The Ka /Ks study indicated that four MaSBT paralogous gene pairs were tandemly duplicated, while the other three were segmental duplications. Further, the expression pattern via RNA-seq data revealed that MaSBTs exhibited differential expres- sion specifically in response to the abiotic stress of low nitrogen. and also during the flowering time. The MaSBT-1.7 gene was found involved in the response to salt stress and flowering. These findings establish a cornerstone for future research on banana's salt stress mechanism. The study offers valuable insights into SBT encoding genes, shedding light on their roles in growth, development, and abiotic stress responses

        Mukesh Yadav,Shalini Jain,Aarti Bhardwaj,Ravinder Nagpal,Monica Puniya,Radha Tomar,Vinod Singh,Om Parkash,G.B.K.S. Prasad,Francesco Marotta,Hariom Yadav 한국식품영양과학회 2009 Journal of medicinal food Vol.12 No.3

The grape is one of the most valued conventional fruits, worldwide. Although most of the parts of the grapevine are useful, primarily, the grape is considered as a source of unique natural products not only for the development of valuable medicines against a number of diseases, but also for manufacturing various industrial products. Over the last few decades, apart from the chemistry of grape compounds, considerable progress has been made towards exploring the biological activities of various grape-derived constituents. Today, it is well established that in addition to serving as food, the grape is a major source of several phytochemicals. The main biologically active and well-characterized constituent from the grape is resveratrol, which is known for various medicinal properties in human diseases. This review discusses the roles of various grape-derived phytochemicals in relation to various diseases.

      • MVO-Based 2-D Path Planning Scheme for Providing Quality of Service in UAV Environment

        Kumar, Puneet,Garg, Sahil,Singh, Amritpal,Batra, Shalini,Kumar, Neeraj,You, Ilsun IEEE 2018 IEEE Internet of things journal Vol.5 No.3

<P>The need to develop smart unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) which are capable of deciding their trajectories is increasing at a rapid pace. Due to their usage in wide range of applications, such as-military, security, communications, survey mapping, disaster management, etc., the provisioning of end-to-end quality of service (QoS) is a challenging task in UAV environment. Moreover, with limited power, the efficiency of the UAVs can be enhanced if adaptive decisions with respect to their itineraries is considered dynamically. However, most of the solutions reported in the literature are not efficient with respect to QoS preservations for various applications. Motivated by this, several recently proposed meta-heuristic optimization schemes for reactive path planning of UAVs have been explored while designing a UAV path planning problem using multiverse optimizer (MVO). By carrying out the simulations over 1000 iterations, it has been demonstrated that MVO algorithm performs better in majority of the cases with average fitness function value of 0.152 and average execution time of 33.686 s.</P>

Psychological impact of suspension/postponement of fertility treatments on infertile women waiting during COVID pandemic

        Parul Jaiswal,Reeta Mahey,Shalini Singh,Perumal Vanamail,Monica Gupta,Rohitha Cheluvaraju,J B Sharma,Neerja Bhatla 대한산부인과학회 2022 Obstetrics & Gynecology Science Vol.65 No.2

ObjectiveTo assess the psychological impact of suspension/postponement of various fertility treatments on infertile womenduring the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. MethodsThis was a cross-sectional study conducted as an online survey among infertile women consulting either throughteleconsultation or physical consultation at a fertility clinic of a tertiary care referral unit. A validated questionnairewas given as a WhatsApp link to the women who were consulting for the resumption of services. Questions askedwere based on their socio-demographic parameters, fertility treatment at the time of suspension, anxiety (selfreported)and stress (perceived stress scale-4, PSS-4) due to delay in treatment, psychosocial effect of pandemic, andwishes regarding the resumption of fertility services. ResultsOf 430 patients who received the questionnaire, 250 completed the survey (response rate: 58%). The mean ageof participants was 29.26±4.18 years and the majority (70.4%) had lower socioeconomic status. The average PSS-4score was 7.8±0.71, and the prevalence of self-reported anxiety was 72%. Those who suffered migration during thepandemic had significantly higher PSS-4 scores, and increasing age was associated with increased self-reported anxietydue to the suspension of fertility services. The top three priorities reported were infertility and treatment delay (48.4%),job loss (19.2%), and the risk of contracting COVID-19 infection (16%). The degree of spousal support was significantlycorrelated with lower PSS-4 scores (r=-0.30, P<0.01). On multivariate logistic analysis, duration of infertility, delayin treatment due to suspension of services, and fear of COVID-19 infection were significant predictors of stress andanxiety. ConclusionThis study emphasizes the need to investigate psychosocial health and to provide psychological support to thisvulnerable population in addition to triaging fertility treatments in a phased manner.

Quantitative Evaluation of the Diffusion Tensor Imaging Matrix Parameters and the Subsequent Correlation with the Clinical Assessment of Disease Severity in Cervical Spondylotic Myelopathy

        Nischal Neha,Tripathi Shalini,Singh Jatinder Pal 대한척추외과학회 2021 Asian Spine Journal Vol.15 No.6

Study Design: We performed a prospective observational study of 52 patients who were clinically suspected of cervical spondylotic myelopathy (CSM), based on the modified Japanese Orthopaedic Association (mJOA) score, and were referred for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the cervical spine. Purpose: To evaluate the quantitative parameters of the diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) matrix (fractional anisotropy [FA] and apparent diffusion coefficient [ADC] values) and determine the subsequent correlation with the clinical assessment of disease severity in CSM. Overview of Literature: Conventional MRI is the modality of choice for the identification of cervical spondylotic changes and is known to have a low sensitivity for myelopathy changes. DTI is sensitive to disease processes that alter the water movement in the cervical spinal cord at a microscopic level beyond the conventional MRI. Methods: DTI images were processed to produce FA and ADC values of the acquired axial slices with the regions of interest placed within the stenotic and non-stenotic segments. The final quantitative radiological derivations were matched with the clinical scoring system. Results: Total 52 people (24 men and 28 women), mean age 53.16 years with different symptoms of myelopathy, graded as mild (n=11), moderate (n=25), and severe (n=16) as per the mJOA scoring system, underwent MRI of the cervical spine with DTI. In the most stenotic segments, the mean FA value was significantly lower (0.5009±0.087 vs. 0.655.7±0.104, p<0.001), and the mean ADC value was significantly higher (1.196.5±0.311 vs. 0.9370±0.284, p<0.001) than that in the non-stenotic segments. The overall sensitivity in identifying DTI metrics abnormalities was more with FA (87.5%) and ADC (75.0%) than with T2 weighted images (25%). Conclusions: In addition to the routine MRI sequences, DTI metrics (FA value better than ADC) can detect myelopathy even in patients with a mild grade mJOA score before irreversible changes become apparent on routine T2 weighted imaging and thus enhance the clinical success of decompression surgery.

Evaluation of transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation as an adjunct therapy in trigeminal neuralgia - a randomized double-blind placebo-controlled clinical study

Bisla, Suman,Gupta, Ambika,Agarwal, Shalini,Singh, Harneet,Sehrawat, Ankita,Singh, Aarti The Korean Dental Society of Anesthsiology 2021 Journal of Dental Anesthesia and Pain Medicine Vol.21 No.6

Background: Trigeminal neuralgia (TN) is a severe form of pain that affects the daily activities of a patient. Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) therapy is an emerging option for the treatment of acute and chronic pain. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of TENS therapy as an adjunct to drug therapy for the treatment of TN. Methods: A total of 52 patients diagnosed with TN according to the International Classification of Headache Disorders (version 3) were included. Each patient was randomized to either the TENS or placebo TENS groups. Intervention was given in continuous mode and 100-Hz frequency for 20 mins biweekly for 6 weeks. Parameters were measured at baseline, TENS completion and 3 months, 6 months, and 1 year of follow up. The parameters observed were mean carbamazepine dose, mean visual analog scale (VAS) score, mean present pain intensity (PPI) score, and functional outcome. Non-parametric analyses, one-way ANOVA and the Kruskal-Wallis test were applied for intragroup comparisons, while the Mann-Whitney U test and independent t-test were used for intergroup comparisons of variables. The chi-square test was applied to analyze categorical data. Results: Compared to the placebo TENS group, the mean dose of carbamazepine in the TENS group was significantly reduced at TENS completion, as well as at 6 months and 1 year follow up. Changes in mean VAS score, mean PPI score, and functional outcome did not show significant differences between the groups (P>0.05). Conclusion: TENS therapy does not lead to any changes in pain levels but it may reduce the mean dose of carbamazepine when used as an adjunct treatment in patients with TN.
