한국 상류계층 학연 연구를 위한 제언 : 상류계층 학력에 있어서의 명문학교의 중요성과 변화 그리고 여성의 학연

본 연구는 한국사회의 지배집단의 특징적인 사회자본이라고 할 수 있는 학연에 초점을 맞추어 이의 뿌리가 되어온 명문학교의 구체적인 실체와 이러한 명문 학교 동창관계에 근거한 상류계층의 남성과 여성의 학력의 동질성,그리고 정부의 정책에 따른 변화 양상을 살펴보는 시도를 통해 학연이라는 것이 한국사회에 상류계층에 얼마만큼 강력하게 뿌리내리고 있으며 어떻게 사회자본으로서 작용하는지에 데한 심도 있는 연구를 진행시킬 수 있는 계기를 제공하고 상류계층 연구에 있어서 여성 학연의 중요성과 연구 필요성을 제기하는데 목적을 둔다. 본 연구의 주된 자로는 1964년부터 1986년까지의 입시관련기사, 1965년부터 1990년까지 서울대학교 음악대학여자졸업생과 이화여자대학교 음악대학교 졸업생을 대상으로 우편 조사된 303부의 질문지 중 상류계층으로 분류된 258명과 그들의 배우자들에 대한 자료와 심층면접 35사례이다. 입시관련기사 분석결과는 평준화 이전의 명문고등학교를 바탕으로 하는 강력하고 오랜 역사의 학연은 정부의 정책에 의해 사라지고 신흥명문이라고 할 수 있는 학교들이 부상하였으나 그 지속성과 영향력은 전 시기에 비교할 수 없을 만큼 약화된 것에 반하여 여자 명문고등학교의 맥은 예술학교를 통해 이어지는 양상을 보여준다. 또한 연구 대상들의 출신 초.중.고.대학명 등과 같은 상세한 학력 자료에 대한 분석은 한국의 명문학교와 그 변천사가 상류계층의 학력에 그대로 드러나고 있음을 보여준다. 평준화 이전 세대의 한국 상류계층 남녀 모두에 있어서 명문학교 학연은 매우 강력하게 자리잡고 있으나 중학교 무시험 추첨제,고교평준화와 같은 정부의 정책은 상류계층 남성들의 학연을 절대적으로 약화시키는데 성공했으나 여성의 경우에는 이를 예술학교를 통해 대치시키는 효과를 낳았으며 이는 상류계층 학연 연구에 있어서의 여성학연의 중요성에 대한 주장의 근거를 제공한다. The objective of this study is to investigate the concrete and detailed reality of academic cliques (Hakyun) which were existing and conducting an important role in the high-class. This study consists of largely two parts. In the first part, based on the reports and articles about entrance examinations in newspaper from1964 to 1986, the Korean Academic Elite Clique for males and females are concretely defined. Through the history of the Korean Academic Elite Clique, show that even though the academic elite path of males was ruined by the government policy, that of females was maintained by art schools. Second, educational backgrounds of 258 high-class respondents and their spouses are analyzed from the perspective of similarity with the Korean Academic Elite Clique for males and females. The results show the homogenity of educational background based on academic elite path ,among the members of the Korean high class and strongly suggest the importance of advanced research about the academic clique of high class female.

A Cluster Model of Temperament as an Indicator of Antidepressant Response and Symptom Severity in Major Depression

Objective Not enough is known about which patients suffering from major depressive disorder benefit from antidepressant drug treatment. Individual temperament is relatively stable over a person’s lifespan and is thought to be largely biologically predefined. We assessedhow temperament profiles are related to depression and predict the efficacy of antidepressant treatment. Methods We recruited one hundred Finnish outpatients (aged 19 to 72) suffering from major depressive disorder, of whom 86 completedthe 6-week study. We assessed their temperament features with the Temperament and Character Inventory and used cluster analysis todetermine the patient’s temperament profile. We also categorized the patients according to the vegetative symptoms of major depressivedisorder. ResultsaaThere was an association between skewed temperament profile and severity of major depressive disorder, but the temperamentprofiles alone did not predict antidepressant treatment response. Those with higher baseline vegetative symptoms score had modest treatmentresponse. Our model with baseline Montgomery Åsberg Depression Rating Scale (MADRS) vegetative symptoms, age and temperamentclusters as explanatory variables explained 20% of the variance in the endpoint MADRS scores. Conclusion The temperament clusters were associated both with severity of depression and antidepressive treatment response of depression. The effect of the temperament profile alone was modest but, combined with vegetative symptoms of depression, their explanatorypower was more marked suggesting that there could be an association of these two in the biological basis of MDD.

Machine Learning-based Endorsing Peer Set Selection Scheme for Scalable Blockchain over Wireless Networks

Blockchain has become one of the leading software platforms, which is digital assets and cryptocurrency such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Ripple. Blockchain is a distributed ledger that records the provenance of a digital asset called block. In this paper, we propose a machine learning-based endorsing peer set selection scheme for scalable blockchain over wireless networks. The proposed system selects a set of endorsing peers that can disseminate the blocks as soon as possible. In the experiments, we evaluated TPS throughput by considering endorsing peer set based on machine learning model.

Code-Switching and Accents in Diasporic Multiethnic Literature in Min-Jin Lee’s Free Food for Millionaires and Lisa See’s The Island of Sea Women

This article examines the literary representation of codeswitching and various accents between Korean and English in two minority women writers’ fictional territory portraying Korean American characters. Min-Jin Lee’s Free Food for Millionaires and Lisa See’s The Island of Sea Women center around the lives of Korean American women who speak English as a primary language and Korean as a home language or heritage language. The characters’ idea of Korea and “Koreanness” mostly manifests in their identity formation, rather than in their linguistic proficiency or a sense of belonging. Heavily related to the language proficiency and identity of Koreanness, the Korean American protagonists alternate between the languages and accents in linguistic repertoire deeply rooted in sociocultural practices that reflect the concept of diaspora and one’s diasporic identity. Their strategic code-switching signifies how one’s diasporic, immigrant identity affects one’s choice of speech that meticulously synthesizes social values, cultural norms, and ethnic/racial belief systems not only emblematic of mainstream American society but also of a minority community as well.

Mapping the Terrain of New Black Fatherhood in Contemporary African American Literature

This paper explores the trajectories of black manhood and fatherhood in modern and contemporary American literature and literary criticism and contemplates a possible space for “good” black fathers. As we investigate how earlier discourses and discussions on black manhood have been constructed, and have remained and developed, there certainly is a change or progress in reading and creating different types of representations of black men — without focusing too much on body and sexuality — in American literature and literary criticism, starting from a ragged image considered problematic, violent, dangerous, or bereft, and under institutionalized destitution. This denigration of the black male has intensified and solidified myths of the black family — a black matriarchal family that lacks a desirable father figure, consequently leading to the effeminized, castrated black masculine presence in their communities — but has come to be questioned, leading to a somewhat hopeful, positive, and even philosophical depiction by questioning the core of defining good and bad under the dire circumstances within which African American men find themselves. By scrutinizing innocuous, caregiving father figures dwelling at home in African American novels, this paper looks back at how literary criticism and literature itself have exercised creative power in order to give birth to the “good” black men, who were deemed nonexistent or insufficient before, through re-reading, re-tracing, and re-looking at black fathers/men in novels written by renowned literary figures from Richard Wright, Ralph Ellison, James Baldwin, and Toni Morrison to contemporary — and relatively young — authors such as Leonard Pitts Jr. and Bernice L. McFadden.

Superheroes Do Not Live on the Rez : The Nomadic Identity for Native Indian Young Adults in Sherman Alexie’s The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian

Sherman Alexie’s 2007 young adult fiction, The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, depicts the life of a young Spokane Indian boy named Arnold Spirit Jr., and the writer tries to show how this young protagonist deals with his identity issues both on the reservation and at a white school. Off the poor reservation where limitations make him a loser, he needs to balance his Indian identity and agency with the white American identity he has come into contact with. The final answer, outcome, or resolution of his long search and struggle is to become a nomad (an old-time Indian way of life) or to become Nomad (an alternative superhero identity of Captain America). Following Junior’s track, Alexie implies that there should be a new form of identity for the young generation, because obviously there is none, for them, available now. Giving them a reachable, accessible form of identity and heroic figure would lead young readers like Junior to dreams of being someone important.

연구논문 : 한국의 문화자본 지형도 구성을 위한 척도개발 기초연구; 문화예술 활동과 음악선호를 중심으로

본 연구는 대규모 조사 자료에 근거한 한국 사회의 문화자본 지형도를 구성하기 위한 기초 연구의 일환으로, 다른 국가들에서 집적된 기존 자료와의 비교가 가능하면서도 동시에 현재 한국 사회에 적합한 질문 문항을 제시하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위해 본 연구에서는 광범위한 국내의 문화자본 관련 문헌들에 대한 비판적 고찰을 통해 이론적 배경을 확립하고, 주요 문헌과 조사에서 사용한 척도 및 관련 질문지와 자료를 수집하였다. 이를 토대로 질문지에서 다루어야 할 주요 영역과 차원을 선정하고 선정된 각 영역과 차원을 고려하여 한국 사회에 보다 적합한 질문 문항을 개발하기 위해 각 분야별 문헌조사와 전문가 조사, 그리고 대상자 질적 조사를 수행하였다. 이상의 절차를 통해 본 연구는, 문화예술 활동과 음악장르를 주요 영역으로 선정하고 문화의 ``고급/대중`` 차원과 ``소비/생산`` 차원, 그리고 한국적 특수성을 고려하여 구체적인 항목을 구성하였다. 그리고 이렇게 구성된 각 항목들에 대해서는 그 동안 문화자본의 보유 정도를 측정함에 있어 기존의 연구들에서 일관성 없이 사용된 문화자본 측정의 세 가지 측면(선호, 참여, 인지)을 통합·보완하여, 각 항목을 좋아하는 정도(선호), 각 항목에 참여하는 정도(참여), 그리고 각 항목이 고급스럽다고 생각하는 정도(인지)와 각 항목이 멋있다고 생각하는 정도(인지)를 묻는 질문 문항을 개발하였다. 본 연구는 문화자본에 관한 기존의 연구들에서 사용된 방대한 양의 질문 문항들을 비판적으로 고찰하고, 이에 한국적 특수성을 고려한 항목들을 추가하여 보다 한국적인 문화자본을 찾아낼 수 있는 큰 틀을 마련하고, 이로써 그 동안 서구 중심적으로 진행되어 왔던 문화자본 논의에 있어서의 비서구적 공백을 메울 수 있는 기반을 제공한다는 점에서 의의를 갖는다. This research is a part of a fundamental research to form the topographic map of the South Korean society`s cultural capital, based on large scale research data. Its purpose is to suggest suitable questions for today`s Korean society as well as to compare with previous data accumulated from other nations. For this, this research is to establish theoretical background through critical study on the extensive literature on domestic and foreign cultural capital and collect measures, questionnaires, and data used in important literature and surveys. Based on this, the major domains and levels that should be dealt in the questionnaire were chosen, literature review was conducted for each field; experts were investigated in order to develop questions more suitable for the Korean society considering each domain and level, and qualitative research on the subjects were conducted. This research as seen through the above processes, music genres and culture activities were chosen as major domains, "high/popular" level and "consumption/ production" level were chosen as items, and specific items were composed considering Korea`s distinct characteristics. Each of these items combine and complement the three aspects of measuring cultural capital(preference, participation, perception), which have been used incoherently in previous researches in measuring the level of possession in cultural capital. This led to developing questions such as the level of liking each item(preference), the level of participating in each item(participation), the level of luxuriousness in each item(perception), and the level of stylishness in each item(perception). This research holds significance in that it critically examines the vast amount of questionnaires used in the past for cultural capital research, provides a large framework to find Korean cultural capital by adding items considering Korea`s distinct characteristics, and provides groundwork to fill in the non-Western gap in the discussion of cultural capital, which has been based on the West.
