This study was conducted to determine the effects of prophylactic supplementation of vitamin E and Se on oxidative damage and antioxidant status. Fifteen healthy male buffalo (Bubalus bubalis) calves between the age of 6 to12 months were divided into three groups of five animals each: Group I-control, group II-endotoxic shock group infused with lyophilized E coli endotoxin @ 5 ${\mu}g$/kg body wt, and group III-supplemented with vitamin E @ 250 mg and Se @ 7.5 mg, one month prior to induction of endotoxic shock. All the animals in group II and group III exhibited signs of endotoxic shock. When the endotoxic shock was induced, there was significant (p<0.05) increase in the circulating levels of malonyl dialdehyde MDA (an indicator of lipid peroxidation). In the supplemented group III the magnitude of formation of MDA was also less as compared to group II at every stage of study. There was significant (p<0.05) decrease in circulating levels of SOD, GSH-Px, Catalase and G-6-PD activity from the normal (0 h) value with passage of time. As a result of endotoxic shock, these values reached a lowest value, and then showed a tendency towards the 0 h value. Prophylactic supplementation with vitamin E and Se was successful in reducing the quantum of oxidative damage due to formation of free radicals because of endotoxic shock.
Analysis of behavior of bare and in-filled RC frames subjected to quasi static loading

Study on the inelastic response of bare and masonry infilled Reinforced Concrete (RC) frames repaired using Carbon Fibre Reinforced Polymers (CFRP) and Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymers (GFRP) subjected to quasi- static loading is presented in the work. The hysteresis behaviour, stiffness retention, energy dissipation and damage index are the parameters employed to analyze the efficacy of FRP strengthening of bare and brick in-filled RC frames. It is observed that there is a significant improvement in load carrying capacity of brick infilled frame over bare RC frame. Also FRP strengthened brick infilled frame performs much better than FRP repaired bare frame under quasi static loading. Repair and retrofitting of brick infilled RC frame shows an improved load carrying and damage tolerance capacity than control frame.
Memory Cell Designs with QCA Implementations: A Review

Quantum-dot-cellular-automata is a potential technology for low power and high density memory designs. In this paper a comprehensive review of parallel and serial QCA memory-cell designs are presented. It is shown that a loop-based serial memory-cell design is better in terms of latency, clocking and timing, hardware requirement.
Non-magnetic compliant finger sensor for continuous fine motor movement detection

A non-magnetic MEG compatible device hasbeen developed that provides continuous force and velocityinformation. Combined with MEG, this device may findutility in characterizing brain regions associated with forceand velocity relative to individual digits or movementpattern. 15 healthy right-handed participants were givenvisual cues to perform random finger movements on theprototype finger sensor for 21 s and then rest for 21 s (7times). Respective finger flexion data were obtained, during151-channel MEG brain scanning, by feeding the signalfrom finger sensor into four input Analog to Digital Converter(ADC) channels in the MEG hardware. The sourceactivity was reconstructed in beta band using a LinearlyConstrained Minimum Variance (LCMV) beamformer inthe beta band. The ADC channels were used as regressorsfor a continuous time General Linear Model (GLM) and aRegion of Interest (ROI) was identified to examine activity. MEG analysis showed bilateral activation in the primarymotor cortex region. Because individual digits could beisolated in the ADC data, somatotopy of the fingers wereobserved consistent with the homunculus except pinkyfinger. The total span was calculated to be 5.5662 mm. Thestudy confirms that the finger sensor is magneticallycompatible with MEG measurements and may potentiallyprovide a means to study complex sensorimotor functions. Improved isolation of individual digit information alongwith the use of machine learning algorithms can helpretrieve more accurate results.

The starches isolated from normal and waxy corn varieties were hydrolyzed with hydrochloric acid (0.14mol equivalent/L) and evaluated for physicochemical and functional properties. Acid thinning decreased the amylose content and swelling power but increased the solubility. The light transmittance of acid thinned (AT) starch pastes was higher than those of their native starches after similar storage intervals. The scanning electron microscopic observation demonstrated that the acid thinning did not cause any disruption of the granular crystalline structure. Native normal corn starches showed lower onset temperature (T<SUB>o</SUB>) and peak temperature (T<SUB>p</SUB>) as compared to their counterpart AT starches, whereas the reverse was observed for waxy corn starch. Enthalpy of gelatinization (ΔH<SUB>gel</SUB>) was lower in AT normal and waxy starches as compared to their native starches. The percentage of retrogradation (%R) was significantly higher for native corn starches as compared to their AT starches. A significant reduction in peak-(P<SUB>V</SUB>), trough-(T<SUB>V</SUB>), breakdown-(B<SUB>V</SUB>), final-(F<SUB>V</SUB>), and setback viscosity (S<SUB>V</SUB>) was observed by acid thinning, and the reduction was more pronounced in AT waxy starches. Among AT starches, AT waxy starch showed the lowest values of P<SUB>V</SUB>, T<SUB>V</SUB>, B<SUB>V</SUB>, F<SUB>V</SUB> and S<SUB>V</SUB>.

The performance of traffic systems is greatly dependent on their ability to react to changing traffic patterns and different situations. On traditional traffic systems, the lights run green for fixed intervals of time no matter what the density of the traffic is. Here, we implement an intelligent-agent traffic model that controls the amount of time a light runs green for, based on the number of cars (density) standing in the light.
Disposition kinetics and urinary excretion of cefpiromeafter intravenous injection in buffalo calves

We investigated the disposition kinetics and urinary excretion of cefpirome in buffalo calves after a single intravenous administration of 10 mg/kg. Also, an appropriate dosage regimen was calculated. At 1 min after injection, the concentration of cefpirome in the plasma was 57.4 ± 0.72 μg/ml, which declined to 0.22 ± 0.01 μg/ml at 24 h. The cefpirome was rapidly distributed from the blood to the tissue compartment as shown by the high distribution coefficient values (8.67 ± 0.46/h), and by the drug’s rate of transfer constant from the central to the peripheral compartment, K12 (4.94 ± 0.31/h). The elimination halflife and the volume of distribution were 2.14 ± 0.02 h and 0.42 ± 0.005 l/kg, respectively. Once the distribution equilibrium was reached between the tissues and plasma, the total body clearance (ClB) and the ratio of the drug present in the peripheral to the central compartment (T/P ratio) were 0.14 ± 0.002 l/kg/h and 1.73 ± 0.06, respectively. Based on the pharmacokinetic parameters we obtained, an appropriate intravenous cefpirome dosage regimen for treating cefpiromesensitive bacteria in buffalo calves would be 8.0 mg/kg repeated at 12 h intervals for 5 days, or until persistence of the bacterial infection occurred.
