새롭게 제안한 화학적 표면개질법의 효과를 확인하기 위하여 LaNi??Al?? 및 MmNi?? Co??Al??를 택하여 수소저장 합금의 반응 속도를 측정했다. 본 실험에서는 이중관(2重管) 의 반응용기를 사용하였다. (시료의 두께 0.5mm)이로인해 등온 상태의 유지가 가능하였다. 시료는 3종류를 사용하였다. (a)화학처리를 행하지 않은 재료 (b)화학처리후 未洗淨한 재료 (c)화학처리후 洗淨한 재료. 이 시료 중에서 가장 쉽게 활성화된 재료는 (c)였다. 완전 활성화를 위해서는 2회의 수소화/탈수소화 반응만 필요했다. 완전히 활성화를 행한후 MmNi?? Co??Al??를 선택하여 30,40,60℃에서 100kPa의 압력으로 반응시킨 결과, (a)및 (c) 시료의 40℃ 및 60℃에서의 반응특성은 같으나 30℃에서의 반응거동은 다르게 나타났다. 그 이유는 화학처리후 30℃에서의 흡수 메카니즘이 변한것으로 추론된다.
Fluorinated Metal Hydrides for the Catalytic Hydrolysis of Metal - Hydrogen Complexes

This paper is related to the hydrogen storage (H-storage) system composed of an alkaline solution that contains metal-hydrogen complex ions. The BH₄^--complex ions stabilized when it is dissolved in aqueous KOH or NaOH to form homogeneous solutions. However, it is necessary to apply an appropriate catalyst for a high rate generation of hydrogen under atmospheric pressure and temperature conditions. The authors intended to develop catalysts suitable for the hydrolysis of BH₄^--complex ion solutions and found that Mg₂Ni exhibits excellent catalytic functions in the hydrolysis, in particular, after the fluorination treatment (F-treatment). In this work, the effects of F-treatment on the rates of hydrolysis were evaluated between the hydrided and unhydrided Mg₂Ni. No hydrogenation in addition to F-treatment is required in view of hydrolysis kinetics and cost-effectiveness.
Effectiveness of Minimal Quantity Lubrication in Machining Processes

A minimal quantity lubrication (MQL) machining is able to achieve both functions of cooling and lubrication with an extremely low quantity of a cutting fluid and a large amount of air blow. Using a biodegradable ester oil, turning tests were carried out to evaluate the effectiveness of the MQL system. It was found that the performance of MQL cutting was equivalent to, or better than, that of conventional cutting, because the MQL system tends to prevent the heat damage of the tool tip and, if an effective lubricant such as a particular polyol ester is applied to the system, it can avoid the extensive transfer of workpiece materials on to the tool surface.

<P>Healthy Labeo rohita (mean bodyweight of 20.1 g) were divided into four groups before being fed for 60 days on diets supplemented with 0 (control), 20 (E1), 30 (E2), or 40 (E3) mg kg(-1) emodin. Various growth and immune parameters were measured after 15, 30, 45, and 60 days of feeding. Fish fed E2 diet exhibited accelerated (p < 0.05) weight gain after 30-60 days of feeding. The most significant improvements (p < 0.05) in immune parameters, such as lysozyme activity, alternative complement pathway activity, respiratory bursts activity, phagocytic activity, superoxide dismutase activity, and myloperoxidase activity, were observed in the E2-fed group after 30 and 45 days of feeding. However, fish groups fed E2 or E3 diets exhibited significantly lower malondialdehyde, aspartate aminotransferase, and alanine aminotransferase activities than did the control group after 30 and 45 days of feeding. The IgM level was significantly elevated in treatment groups after 30 and 45 days of feeding. Further, fish fed E2 diet for 45 days had the highest (p < 0.005) post-challenge survival rate (83.3 %), followed by fish fed E2 diet for 30 days (75 %). Therefore, dietary feeding of emodin at 30 mg kg(-1) to L. rohita for 30-45 days is optimal to enhance the immunity and disease resistance against A. hydrophila.</P>
In-situ Observation of Hydride Stability of Vanadium Alloys in Electron Microscope

High-resolution microscopy was applied for surveying hydride stability in Vanadium alloys, which are candidate for hydrogen storage materials of advanced hydrogen energy systems. $V_2H$ hydride in V alloys was stable at room temperature under the vacuum condition, but it was decomposed during heating up to $100^{\circ}C$. It was confirmed from HRTEM image and FFT that $V_2H$ has a BCT structure, where hydrogen atoms locate at octahedral sites. Crystal orientation was <110> beta// <110> mat., and lattice strain is about 10%. After the decomposition of the hydride, relatively large lattice expansion was observed in the matrix, which suggests that hydrogen atoms should be trapped by lattice defects and included in the matrix. Intensive electron beam also enhanced the decomposition.
INHIBITORY EFFECT OF THE IONOPHORE SALINOMYCIN ON DEAMINATION BY MIXED RUMEN BACTERIA

A series of in vitro experiments was conducted to investigate response of rumen bacterial deamination to the ionophore salinomycin. Addition of salinomycin to the inoculum, strained rumen fluid, depressed ammonia production from casein, while increased accumulation of ${\alpha}$-amino acids. This suggests an inhibitory effect of salinomycin on ruminal deamination. When the effect in washed bacterial suspension was monitored with individual amino acid, aspartic acid degradation was markedly inhibited by salinomycin. This inhibition was not observed when the mixed rumen bacteria were ultrasonically disrupted and used as the enzyme source. Extent of the inhibition tended to be higher in the bacteria source from sheep on a high roughage diet. From these results it was speculated that the inhibition of deamination with salinomycin is caused by a decreased transport of amino acid into the bacterial cells as well as a decreased proportion of deaminating bacteria in the rumen.

Six Holstein heifer calves weaned at 45 days-of-age were randomly allocated into high daily gain (1.1 kg/d, HDG) and low daily gain (0.56 kg/d, LDG) groups, and were slaughtered at 170 kg of live weight. Energy intake level in the feeding period was 2.4 $\times$ maintenance in 105 days for HDG and 1.4 $\times$ maintenance in 216 days for LDG calves. Total length of the small intestine was identical between groups, but both weights of the pancreas and of the small intestinal mucosa were greater (p < 0.01) for HDG calves. Alpha-amylase, lipase, proteinase, and trypsin activities of the whole pancreas were higher (p < 0.05) in HDG calves. Disaccharidase activity of the whole small intestinal mucosa was also higher (p < 0.10) for HDG than for LDG calves. However, the enzymatic activities, expressed as per gram or per protein of the pancreas and the small intestinal mucosa, were not affected (p > 0.10) by the plane of nutrition. These results suggest that the digestive enzyme activity in the small intestine varies primarily with the weight of tissues synthesizing the enzyme.

New type of metal hydride heat pump (MHHP) combined with hydrogen compressor was constructed for cooling purpose. A model for calculating the coefficient of performance (COP) is presented for MHHP which consisted of two different stages (enforced and natural stage), and compared with the experimental results. A concept of adiabatic compression work is introduced in the model on the basis of Carnot reversible analysis and the dependence of COP on the various operational parameters is discussed.
