Ghosh, M.K.,Das, B.K.,Das, C.,Mishra, A.K.,Mukherjee, P.K.,Urs, S.Raje Korean Society of Sericultural Science 2004 International Journal of Industrial Entomology Vol.8 No.1

Ten improved mulberry varieties (Vl, C1730, C2016, C2017, Anantha, RFS-175, Thallaghatapura, Vishala, S1 and S1635) were evaluated through enzyme assay and estimation of soluble protein content followed by regression analysis, grown under irrigated conditions in the alluvial soils of Gangetic plains of West Bengal in India for five successive crops in a year, The nitrate reductase (EC No. 1.6.6.1) activity (NRA, $\mu$mol N $O_2$- $h^{-1}$ $g^{-1}$ fr, wt.), total soluble protein (mg $g^{-1}$ fr, wt.) was estimated which showed to vary significantly in the tested varieties. In addition to these, the other parameters like unit leaf fresh and dry weight (g), moisture %, unit leaf area ($\textrm{cm}^2$), specific leaf weight (g c $m^{-2}$ ), total soluble sugar (mg $g^{-1}$ fr, wt.), leaf yield/plant (kg), shoot yield/plant (kg) and net photosynthetic rate (NPR, $\mu$㏖ $m^{2}$ $s^{-1}$ ) were also studied which showed to vary significantly in tested varieties. Among them, S1635, haying higher NRA (13.25 $\mu$㏖ N $O_2$- $h^{-l}$ $g^{-1}$ fr, wt.), total soluble protein (39.63mg $g^{-1}$ fr, wt.), NPR(16.66 $\mu$㏖ $m^{-2}$ $s^{-1}$ ), total soluble sugar (48.44 mg $g^{-1}$ fr. wt.), leaf yield/plant (0.689 kg) and shoot yield/plant (1.135 kg) showed its superiority over other tested varieties. Regression and correlation coefficients were analysed, and a strong positive correlation was found between NRA & total soluble protein, NRA & NPR, NRA & total soluble sugar, NRA af unit leaf weight, NRA & specific leaf weight, NRA & leaf yield/plant, NRA & shoot yield/plant, NPR & leaf yield and NPR & specific leaf weight.t.

        OPTICAL MICROVARIABILITY OF BLAZARS

        GHOSH K. K.,KIM CHULHEE,RAMSEY B. D.,SOUNDARARAJAPERUMAL S. The Korean Astronomical Society 2001 Journal of The Korean Astronomical Society Vol.34 No.1

We present the results of optical differential photometry of five blazars [PKS0219+428 (3C66A), PKS 0235+164 (AO 0235+16), H0414+019, PKS 0851+202 (OJ 287) and QSO 1807+698 (3C 371)] that were observed on 7 nights between November 05, 1997 and December 29, 1998, using the B and the V band filters. We have detected microvariations in four blazars (3C66A, AO 0235+16, H04l4+019, and OJ 287). In addition, the light curve of AO 0235+16 has displayed a mini-flare when the brightness of this source was decreasing. Night-to-night variations have also been detected in 3C66A, H04l4+019, and OJ 287. The results of our observations are discussed in the framework of accretion disk phenomena (magnetic flares or hot spots in accretion disks) and jet phenomena (plasma instabilities in jets).

Induced instability in local structure and ferroelectric polarization of rare earth modified BZT relaxor ceramics

        S.K. Ghosh,S.K. Rout 한국물리학회 2016 Current Applied Physics Vol.16 No.9

Chemically induced instability in local symmetry of rare earth modified barium zirconate titanate relaxor ceramics Ba1-xLn2x/3Zr0.3Ti0.7O3 (Ln ¼ Sc, La, Sm, Nd, Eu and Gd), where x ¼ 0.02e0.10 and its effect on structural, microstructural, interband transition along with ferroelectric switching polarization are studied experimentally. Rare earth substitution induced A-site vacancies and distortion in three dimensional cation-oxygen networks leads to random local strain with short range ordering. In addition, these cations control the formation of grain, grain boundaries and band gap values. Substitution of rare earth ions induced intermediate energy levels in between conduction and valence band and guided the emission spectra towards blue-green region. At room temperature polarization hysteresis loop and normalized capacitance versus electric field loop indicated the existence of relaxation and polarization switching mechanism in these materials. However, at room temperature feeble polarization switching is observed in case of scandium, europium and gadolinium based BZT compositions indicated a weak relaxor phase whereas in lanthanum, samarium, neodymium substituted BZT materials shows a dominating relaxor phases induced by static and dynamic of nano size polar regions separated by non-polar region.

Enhanced efficiency in dye-sensitized solar cells based on mesoporous titanium phosphate photoanode

        Park, K.H.,Mondal, S.,Ghosh, S.,Das, S.,Bhaumik, A. Elsevier 2016 Microporous and mesoporous materials Vol.225 No.-

A new bilayer-nanostructured photoanode with mesoporous titanium phosphate (MTP1) as overlayer and titanium dioxide (TiO2) as underlayer has been fabricated. Mesoporous titanium phosphate material with high surface area (442 m(2) g(-1)) has been synthesized hydrothermally by using a new tailor made gemini surfactant under acidic pH conditions. HR TEM and N-2 sorption analysis revealed the presence of disordered mesopores of dimension ca. 4.50 nm in MTP1 material. Open-circuit voltage decay (OCVD) spectroscopy is used to investigate the kinetic process of electron transport and recombination within TiO2/TiO2, MTP1/TiO2, or MTP1/MTP1 based DSSCs, revealing a faster electron transport rate and a lower recombination rate in the MTP1/TiO2 photoanode. The energy conversion efficiency of dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) based on such a MTP1/TiO2 photoelectrode shows a significant enhancement (6.0%) compared to TiO2/TiO2 photoelectrode (5.5%) with similar thickness (similar to 7 mu m), suggesting the favorable electron transport rate in former. Effect of Ichnocarpus frutescens extract on antihyperglycemic, antihyperlipidemic and antioxidant status in streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats

        Deepak K Dash,Tirtha Ghosh,Veerendra C Yeligar,K Murugesh,Siva S Nayak,Bhim C Maiti,Tapan K Maity 경희대학교 융합한의과학연구소 2007 Oriental Pharmacy and Experimental Medicine Vol.7 No.3

The present study was carried out to investigate the antihyperglycemic, antihyperlipidemic and antioxidant effect of chloroform and methanol extract of whole plant of Ichnocarpus frutescens (CEIF and MEIF) in streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic rats. Administration of CEIF and MEIF orally at the dose of 200 mg/kg and 400 mg/kg body weight resulted in significant (P < 0.01) reduction in blood glucose levels. The body weights were significantly (P < 0.001) reduced in STZ-induced diabetic rats when compared to normal rats while the extracts significantly (P < 0.01) prevented the decrease in body weight in the CEIF and MEIF treated rats. The study was further undertaken to evaluate the antioxidant and antihyperlipidemic potential of CEIF and MEIF in STZ-induced diabetic rats. The increased levels of lipid peroxidation in the liver tissues of diabetic rats were significantly reverted back to normal levels and a significant increase in the activity of antioxidant enzymes such as superoxide dismutase, catalase and the level of reduced glutathione in the liver of diabetic rats after the treatment with CEIF and MEIF was noticed. These results clearly indicate that CEIF and MEIF exhibit significant antihyperglycemic, antihyperlipidemic and in vivo antioxidant activity in STZ-induced diabetic rats and the results were found to be in a dose dependent manner

      • Radio and infrared study of southern H II regions G346.056−0.021 and G346.077−0.056

        Das, S. R.,Tej, A.,Vig, S.,Liu, T.,Ghosh, S. K.,Chandra, C. H. I. EDP Sciences 2018 Astronomy and astrophysics Vol.612 No.-

Aim. We present a multiwavelength study of two southern Galactic H II regions G346.056−0.021 and G346.077−0.056 which are located at a distance of 10.9 kpc. The distribution of ionized gas, cold and warm dust, and the stellar population associated with the two H II regions are studied in detail using measurements at near-infrared, mid-infrared, far-infrared, submillimeter and radio wavelengths.

Methods. The radio continuum maps at 1280 and 610 MHz were obtained using the Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope to probe the ionized gas. The dust temperature, column density, and dust emissivity maps were generated using modified blackbody fits in the far-infrared wavelength range 160-500 μm. Various near- and mid-infrared color and magnitude criteria were adopted to identify candidate ionizing star(s) and the population of young stellar objects in the associated field.

Results. The radio maps reveal the presence of diffuse ionized emission displaying distinct cometary morphologies. The 1280 MHz flux densities translate to zero age main sequence spectral types in the range O7.5V-O7V and O8.5V-O8V for the ionizing stars of G346.056−0.021 and G346.077−0.056, respectively. A few promising candidate ionizing star(s) are identified using near-infrared photometric data. The column density map shows the presence of a large, dense dust clump enveloping G346.077−0.056. The dust temperature map shows peaks towards the two H II regions. The submillimeter image shows the presence of two additional clumps, one being associated with G346.056−0.021. The masses of the clumps are estimated to range between ~1400 and 15250 M⊙. Based on simple analytic calculations and the correlation seen between the ionized gas distribution and the local density structure, the observed cometary morphology in the radio maps is better explained invoking the champagne-flow model.
