Probiotics and carcinogens both have a significant effect on the microfloral composition of the human intestine. The objective of this study was to investigate the impact of an important carcinogen, 4-Nitroquinoline-1- Oxide on colonic microflora and the efficacy of the probiotic Lactobacillus salivarius REN as an agent of counteracting these effects. Using denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (DGGE) combined with redundancy analysis, we demonstrated that both 4-Nitroquinoline-1-Oxide and L. salivarius REN significantly altered the bacterial communities of rat colons. A total of 27 bacterial strains were identified as being affected by treatment with 4-Nitroquinoline-1-Oxide or L. salivarius REN using a t-value biplot combined with band sequencing. 4-Nitroquinoline-1-Oxide treatment increased the abundance of two potential pathogens (one Helicobacter strain and one Desulfovibrio strain), as well as reducing the abundance of two potentially beneficial strains (one Ruminococcaceae strain and one Rumen bacteria). The Helicobacter strain was initally detected in carcinogen-treated rat intestinal microflora, but L. salivarius REN treatment effectively suppressed the growth of the Helicobacter strain. These results suggested that L. salivarius REN may be a potential probiotic, efficiently acting against the initial infection with, and the growth of pathogenic bacteria.

Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a major cause of death and disability in adults. The pathological process of TBI involves a multifactorial cascade in which kinases have been proven contribute to interactions between relevant factors and amplification of signaling cascades. Cyclin-dependent kinase 5 (Cdk5) is a promising kinase that has been implicated in various brain disorders, including TBI. However, the mechanism by which Cdk5 induces neuronal damage remains unclear. Here, we show for the first time that Drosha, a key enzyme in microRNA biogenesis, is a pivotal substrate of abnormally activated Cdk5. Cdk5-mediated phosphorylation decreases Drosha expression and exacerbates nerve injury in TBI. We proved that maintaining Drosha expression via the administration of repurposed Cdk5 inhibitors that were previously studied in clinical trials is a promising approach for the early treatment of TBI. Together, our work identifies Drosha as a novel target for neuroprotective strategies after TBI and suggests Cdk5-mediated regulation of Drosha expression as a potential therapeutic strategy for early TBI intervention.
The Biosynthesis Pathway of Swainsonine, a New Anticancer Drug from Three Endophytic Fungi

Swainsonine (SW) is the principal toxic ingredient of locoweed plants that causes locoism characterized by a disorder of the nervous system. It has also received widespread attention in the medical field for its beneficial anticancer and antitumor activities. Endophytic fungi, Alternaria sect. Undifilum oxytropis isolated from locoweeds, the plant pathogen Slafractonia leguminicola, and the insect pathogen Metarhizium anisopliae, produce swainsonine. Acquired SW by biofermentation has a certain foreground and research value. This paper mainly summarizes the local and foreign literature published thus far on the swainsonine biosynthesis pathway, and speculates on the possible regulatory enzymes involved in the synthesis pathway within these three fungi in order to provide a new reference for research on swainsonine biosynthesis by endophytic fungi.
재한 중국인 유학생의 문화적응 정도에 따른 식생활 관련 요인 분석

This study was performed to provide fundamental data on the dietary life according to the acculturation degree. The subject was 305 Chinese students in South Korea region. The questionnaire respondents are consisted of 148 male students (48.5%) and 157 female students (51.5%). There was a statistically significant difference in age, education level, residence time, and Korean language ability according to acculturation degree (p<0.05), but there was no statistically significant difference in gender, residence pattern, purpose of coming to Korea. There was a statistically significant difference between meals frequency, outside frequency, and the intake of Chinese food according to acculturation degree (p< 0.05), but there was no significant difference in snake taking frequency (p >0.05). There was a statistically significant difference in drinks and computer time according to acculturation degree (p< 0.05), but there was no statistically significant difference between smoking and exercise (p >0.05). The food intake style of Chinese students was 2.47 in noodles, 2.34 in lunches and 2.15 in breads. According to the acculturation degree, the food intake patterns showed statistically significant differences in dumping kind, congee, hamburger and pizza, while meat products, smoked meat, noodle, lunch, cereal, kimbap, sandwich. And there was no significant difference. The correlation between the factors influencing the acculturation degree of Chinese students showed a statistically significant effect on dietary habits, food intake, education level, residence period, and Korean language ability.

Mammalian mediator (MED) is a multi-protein coactivator that has been identified by several research goups. The involvement of the MED complex subunit 19 (MED 19) in the metastasis of lung adenocarcinoma cell line (H1299), which expresses the MED 19 subunit, was here investigated. When MED 19 expression was decreased by RNA interference H1299 cells demonstrated reduced clone formation, arrest in the S phase of the cell cycle, and lowered metastatic capacity. Thus, MED 19 appears to play important roles in the biological behavior of non-small cell lung carcinoma cells. These findings may be important for the development of novel lung carcinoma treatments.
콘텐츠 내부요인과 현지시장 외부요인을 활용한 대중문화 콘텐츠 소비 결정요인 분석

본 연구는 대중문화 콘텐츠 소비 결정요인에 대한 분석을 실시하였다. 한국 드라마를 시청하는 중국소비자에 초점을 맞추어 실증분석을 진행하였다. 종속변수(대중문화 콘텐츠 소비) 관련 8개의 독립변수가 설정되었다. 이 중 내용 완성도, 유교적 전통요소, 현대적 감각, 출연자의 인지도는 내부적인 요인을 설명하고 있으며, 접근 용이성, 기술적 진보, 현지 정부 규제, 대중적 관심은 외부적 요인을 반영하고 있다. 이와 함께 조절변수(문화적 근접성) 관련 영향력도 분석하였다. 한국 드라마를 시청하는 중국소비자로부터 자료를 수집하였으며, 구체적으로 447개의 응답 자료가 활용되었다. 구조방정식 분석 결과, 내용 완성도, 현대적 감각, 출연자의 인지도, 기술적 진보, 대중적 관심이 대중문화 콘텐츠 소비에 긍정적인 영향을 미칠 수 있음이 확인되었다. 흥미로운 사실은 정부 규제는 오히려 대중문화 콘텐츠 소비 상승으로 연결될 수 있었다. 문화 근접성 관련 조절효과는 제한적으로만 확인되었다. The purpose of this study is to investigate determinants of consuming popular culture contents with content’s characteristics and external environments. The case of Chinese consumers who enjoy Korean dramas was empirically examined. Based on the previous studies, we set internal factors of consuming popular culture contents such as performance quality, confucian value, modern style, and actor popularity. External factors including accessibility, technology advancement, government regulation, and isomorphism among consumers were determined. The eight variables are independent variables in terms of the dependent variable, consumption of popular culture contents. Also, the moderating effects of cultural proximity were discussed regarding the relationships between the dependent variable and eight independent variables. This study collected data from Chinese consumers who enjoy Korean dramas. In specific, 447 responses were used to verify hypotheses based on previous studies and theoretical foundations. The collected data were empirically tested by SEM(Structural Equation Modeling) with SPSS and AMOS statistical programs. According to the empirical findings, performance quality, modern style, and actor popularity did play an important role to increase the consumption of popular culture contents. Also, technology advancement and isomorphism among consumers may increase the consumption. Increasingly, unlike the hypothesis, government regulation can be positive to increase the consumption. Limited moderating effects could be supported by the empirical findings.
