Multi-Area Unit Commitment with Bilateral Contract Approach in Deregulated Electricity Market

        S.Chitra Selvi,R.P.Kumudini Devi,C.Christober Asir Rajan 대한전기학회 2009 Journal of Electrical Engineering & Technology Vol.4 No.3

The eventual goal of this paper is to help the generating companies and load-serving entities to choose appropriate relative levels of interconnected system versus bilateral trades while considering risk, and economic performance. In competitive power markets, electricity prices are determined by balance between demand and supply in electric power exchanges or bilateral contracts. The problem formulation is bilateral contract incorporated into Multi-area unit commitment with import/export and tie-line constraints. This proposed method considers maximizing own profit or minimize the operating cost among the generating companies in multi-area system. The feasibility of the proposed algorithm has been demonstrated using IEEE system with four areas and experimental results shows that proposed method is reliable, fast and computationally efficient

Behavior of light weight sandwich panels under out of plane bending loading

        S. Chitra Ganapathi,J. Annie Peter,N. Lakshmanan,N.R. Iyer 국제구조공학회 2016 Steel and Composite Structures, An International J Vol.21 No.4

This paper presents the flexural behavior & ultimate strength performance of innovative light weight sandwich panels of size 3×1.2 m with two different solidity ratios viz. 0.5 and 0.33 under out of plane bending load. From the experimental studies, it is observed that the flexural strength and the stiffness are increased by about 46% and five folds for lesser solidity ratio case. From the measured strains of the shear connectors, full shear transfer between the concrete wythes is observed. The yielding occurred approximately at 4% and 0.55% of the ultimate deformation for 100 mm & 150 mm thick panels, which shows the large ductility characteristics of the panels. From the study, it is inferred that the light weight sandwich panels behave structurally in a very similar manner to reinforced concrete panels. Further from the numerical study, it is observed that the numerical values obtained by FE analysis are in good agreement with the experimental observations.

Inheritance pattern and expression of resistance to phosphine in larval stage of Tribolium castaneum (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae)

        Ramya R.S.,Srivastava Chitra,Subramanian Sabtharishi,Ranjith M. 한국응용곤충학회 2023 Journal of Asia-Pacific Entomology Vol.26 No.1

Resistance developed by Tribolium castaneum (Herbst), a major pest of stored grain and grain products, to phosphine is a serious concern. Treatment of phosphine is given to all the stages (egg, larva, pupa and adult) of insects simultaneously in the infected commodity. Effective resistance management tactics need a proper un derstanding of expression of resistance in relation to dosage in immature stages including larvae. So, this study was undertaken to understand the genetic basis of phosphine resistance in larval stage of T. castaneum by crossing the resistant and susceptible parents to obtain the F 1 , F 2 and the back-cross progenies. The resistant parent had a resistance ratio of 37.75 when compared to the susceptible parent. The susceptibility levels of the reciprocal F 1 hybrids did not show any significant difference indicating autosomal mode of inheritance of resistance. Level of dominance for the reciprocal F 1 hybrids was estimated (-0.70 and − 0.68) which showed that the resistance is expressed as incompletely recessive in larval stage of T. castaneum. χ 2 analysis showed that the observed and expected mortalities differed significantly (P < 0.05) in most of the concentrations indicating that more than one gene is responsible for phosphine resistance. Two plateaus at ~ 40 % and ~ 90 % mortality levels for the backcross progeny to the resistant parent further confirmed the involvement of two or more genes in imparting resistance to phosphine. Our results will aid in enhancing the knowledge on the development of resistance to phosphine in the field and thus facilitate in designing suitable resistance management tactics.

IoT-Based Automatic Water Quality Monitoring System with Optimized Neural Network

        Anusha Bamini A M,Chitra R,아가왈 사우랍,김현성,Punitha Stephan,Thompson Stephan 한국인터넷정보학회 2024 KSII Transactions on Internet and Information Syst Vol.18 No.1

One of the biggest dangers in the globe is water contamination. Water is a necessity for human survival. In most cities, the digging of borewells is restricted. In some cities, the borewell is allowed for only drinking water. Hence, the scarcity of drinking water is a vital issue for industries and villas. Most of the water sources in and around the cities are also polluted, and it will cause significant health issues. Real-time quality observation is necessary to guarantee a secure supply of drinking water. We offer a model of a low-cost system of monitoring real-time water quality using IoT to address this issue. The potential for supporting the real world has expanded with the introduction of IoT and other sensors. Multiple sensors make up the suggested system, which is utilized to identify the physical and chemical features of the water. Various sensors can measure the parameters such as temperature, pH, and turbidity. The core controller can process the values measured by sensors. An Arduino model is implemented in the core controller. The sensor data is forwarded to the cloud database using a WI-FI setup. The observed data will be transferred and stored in a cloud-based database for further processing. It wasn't easy to analyze the water quality every time. Hence, an Optimized Neural Network-based automation system identifies water quality from remote locations. The performance of the feed-forward neural network classifier is further enhanced with a hybrid GA- PSO algorithm. The optimized neural network outperforms water quality prediction applications and yields 91% accuracy. The accuracy of the developed model is increased by 20% because of optimizing network parameters compared to the traditional feed-forward neural network. Significant improvement in precision and recall is also evidenced in the proposed work.

Comparative Experimental Investigation on the Behaviour and Strength of RC Frames Strengthened and Retrofitted with GFRP Composites

        P. Saravanakumar,N. R. Chitra,R. Murugesan 대한토목학회 2014 KSCE JOURNAL OF CIVIL ENGINEERING Vol.18 No.6

This investigation is about the study of efficiency of GFRP (Glass Fibre Reinforced Polymer) composites in strengthening andretrofitting of seismically deficient reinforced concrete frames. Twelve numbers of single bay two storey two dimensional RC frameswere cast and Six frames were tested for effectiveness of externally bonded GFRP composites to strengthen the RC frame, Sixframes were loaded up to yield load and these yielded frames were wrapped with GFRP and tested for the effectiveness of retrofittingthe yielded frames. A preliminary study on RC elements strengthened and retrofitted with GFRP composites were carried out as:Group (I): Six numbers of normal beam elements, Group (II): Twelve beams each addressing influence of strengthening, retrofittingthe flexure zone and to compare their flexural capacity. Group (III) six beams each addressing the influence of strengthening, retrofitting the shear zones and to compare shear capacity. Group (IV) three columns each tested under axial load with and withoutwrapping and for retrofitting. The results indicate that there is an increase in the load carrying capacity of RC frame strengthenedwith GFRP composites wrapping to the extent of 16.07% and the retrofitted yielded RC frame regain its structural capacity to theextent of 10.02%.

Studies on Nanostructured Amorphous Carbon by X-ray Diffraction and Small Angle X-ray Scattering

        K. Dasgupta,P.S.R. Krishna,R. Chitra,D. Sathiyamoorth 한국탄소학회 2003 Carbon Letters Vol.4 No.1

The structural studies of amorphous isotropic carbon prepared from pyrolysis of phenol formaldehyde resin have been carried out using X-ray diffraction. X-ray diffraction from as prepared sample at 1000℃ and a sample treated at 1900℃ revealed that both are amorphous even though there are small differences in short range order. It is found that both are graphite like carbon (GLC) with predominantly sp2 hybridization. Small angle X-ray scattering results show that as prepared sample mainly consists of thin two dimensional platelets of graphitic carbon whereas they grow in thickness to become three dimensional materials of nano dimensions.

Comparative toxicity of phosphine to developmental stages of three Callosobruchus species infesting stored pulses

        Aidbhavi Revanasidda,Subramanian Sabtharishi,Ranjitha M.R.,Chandel Rahul Kumar,Srivastava Chitra,Bandi Sanjay M.,Singh Bansa 한국응용곤충학회 2022 Journal of Asia-Pacific Entomology Vol.25 No.1

Bruchids pose serious threat to stored pulses, and their successful management largely depends on phosphine fumigation. For the first time, the comparative assessment of phosphine toxicity to all the developmental stages of three bruchid species in India was attempted at varied concentrations and exposure times. Based on probit estimates, the egg stages found to be least sensitive to phosphine followed by pupae and larvae, whereas adults were highly sensitive. Among the age groups of eggs, the early age groups (0–2 days old) were less sensitive than later stages (3–6 days old). The bruchid species viz., Callosobruchus maculatus (F.), C. analis (F.), and C. chinensis L. exhibited a variable degree of susceptibility irrespective of life stages and exposure periods tested. However, the collective probit estimates indicated C. maculatus being slightly less sensitive followed by C. analis and C. chinensis. Except in 0–2 day old eggs, the mortality response in 3–6 day old eggs, larvae, pupae, and adults was increased with increasing phospine concentrations and exposure period. The mortality response got even steeper at 48 and 72 h exposures as evident by decreasing LC50 and LC90 values. The information generated on phospine sensitivity in different life stages would serve as baseline data to design insecticide resistance studies in future and also to ascertain stage-specific Concentration vs. time (Ct) products for the recommendation of phosphine doses for successful management of bruchids during any of their life stages under storage conditions.
