        Delay-dependent H∞ Control for a Class of Uncertain Time-delay Singular Markovian Jump Systems via Hybrid Impulsive Control

        This paper deals with the problem of robust normalization and delay-dependent H∞ control for a classof singular Markovian jump systems with norm-bounded parameter uncertainties and time delay. A new impulsiveand proportional-derivative control strategy with memory is presented, which results in a novel class of hybridimpulsive systems. Sufficient conditions are developed to guarantee that the resultant closed-loop system is notonly robust normal and stochastically stable, but also satisfies a prescribed H¥ performance level for all delays nolarger than a given upper bound. In addition, the explicit expression of the desired impulsive control gains is alsogiven together with the design approach. Finally, two numerical examples are provided to illustrate the effectivenessof the proposed methods.

        Molecular Characteristics and Potent Immunomodulatory Activity of Fasciola hepatica Cystatin

        Cystatin, a cysteine protease inhibitor found in many parasites, plays important roles in immune evasion. This study analyzed the molecular characteristics of a cystatin from Fasciola hepatica (FhCystatin) and expressed recombinant FhCystatin (rFhcystatin) to investigate the immune modulatory effects on lipopolysaccharide-induced proliferation, migration, cytokine secretion, nitric oxide (NO) production, and apoptosis in mouse macrophages. The FhCystatin gene encoded 116 amino acids and contained a conserved cystatin-like domain. rFhCystatin significantly inhibited the activity of cathepsin B. rFhCystatin bound to the surface of mouse RAW264.7 cells, significantly inhibited cell proliferation and promoted apoptosis. Moreover, rFhCystatin inhibited the expression of cellular nitric oxide, interleukin-6, and tumor necrosis factor-α, and promoted the expression of transforming growth factor-β and interleukin-10. These results showed that FhCystatin played an important role in regulating the activity of mouse macrophages. Our findings provide new insights into mechanisms underlying the immune evasion and contribute to the exploration of potential targets for the development of new drug to control F. hepatica infection.

        Combination of High-Density Lipoprotein Cholesterol and Lipoprotein(a) as a Predictor of Collateral Circulation in Patients With Severe Unilateral Internal Carotid Artery Stenosis or Occlusion

        Background and Purpose Collateral circulation is considered an important factor affecting the risk of stroke, but the factors that affect collateral circulation remain unclear. This study was performed to identify the factors associated with collateral circulation, especially blood lipids. Methods The study involved patients who had undergone digital subtraction angiography and were confirmed as having severe unilateral stenosis or occlusion of the internal carotid artery (ICA). We classified the collateral circulation status of each patient as good (Grade 3 or 4) or poor (Grade 0, 1, or 2) according to the grading system of the American Society of Interventional and Therapeutic Neuroradiology/American Society of Interventional Radiology. We collected data on patients’ characteristics and identified the factors that affect collateral circulation. Results This study included 212 patients. The multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that the high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) concentration and a complete anterior half of the circle of Willis were independent protective factors for good collateral circulation, whereas elevated lipoprotein(a) [Lp(a)] and serum creatinine concentrations were independent risk factors for good collateral circulation. The area under the receiver operating characteristics curve (AUC) was 0.68 (95% confidence interval [CI], 0.61–0.76) for HDL-C and 0.69 (95% CI, 0.62–0.76) for Lp(a). A binary logistic regression model analysis of the joint factor of HDL-C and Lp(a) yielded an AUC of 0.77 (95% CI, 0.71–0.84). Conclusions In patients with severe unilateral ICA stenosis or occlusion, the combination of HDL-C and Lp(a) is a useful predictor of collateral circulation.

        Chinese Society of Allergy Guidelines for Diagnosis and Treatment of Allergic Rhinitis

        Allergic rhinitis (AR) is a global health problem that causes major illnesses and disabilities worldwide. Epidemiologic studies have demonstrated that the prevalence of AR has increased progressively over the last few decades in more developed countries and currently affects up to 40% of the population worldwide. Likewise, a rising trend of AR has also been observed over the last 2-3 decades in developing countries including China, with the prevalence of AR varying widely in these countries. A survey of self-reported AR over a 6-year period in the general Chinese adult population reported that the standardized prevalence of adult AR increased from 11.1% in 2005 to 17.6% in 2011. An increasing number of original articles and imporclinical trials on the epidemiology, pathophysiologic mechanisms, diagnosis, management and comorbidities of AR in Chinese subjects have been published in international peer-reviewed journals over the past 2 decades, and substantially added to our understanding of this disease as a global problem. Although guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of AR in Chinese subjects have also been published, they have not been translated into English and therefore not generally accessible for reference to non-Chinese speaking international medical communities. Moreover, methods for the diagnosis and treatment of AR in China have not been standardized entirely and some patients are still treated according to regional preferences. Thus, the present guidelines have been developed by the Chinese Society of Allergy to be accessible to both national and international medical communities involved in the management of AR patients. These guidelines have been prepared in line with existing international guidelines to provide evidence-based recommendations for the diagnosis and management of AR in China.

        Characteristic profiles of biofilm, enterotoxins and virulence of Staphylococcus aureus isolates from dairy cows in Xinjiang Province, China

        As an important zoonotic pathogen, Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) infection has led to serious mastitis and endometritis in infected dairy cows. HereIn this study, a total of 164 strains of S. aureus were isolated from dairy cows in Xinjiang Province, China, and subjected to assays to determine of drug susceptibility and biofilm (BF) formation ability. The eEnterotoxin-related genes were detected, and then the transcription levels of genes related to BF formation were also determined by using reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reactionPCR. Moreover, the pathogenicity of these isolates with different BF formation abilities was determined via by measuring their hemolysis activity, half lethal dose (LD50) and organ bacterial load, respectively. The results showed that 83.4 % of S. aureus isolates could form BF. Among them, 40.8 % of the strains had weak BF formation ability, and most strains with a strong BF formation ability were ica gene carriers. The S. aureus isolates displayed multidrug resistance and their drug resistance was positively correlated with their BF formation ability. Moreover, 96.3 % of the S. aureus isolates carried enterotoxin genes. Among them, the detection rates of the novel enterotoxin genes were higher than thoseat of conventional enterotoxin genes. Furthermore, the isolates with a strong BF formation ability had higher LD50 but lower hemolysis ability and organ bacterial load than thoseat of the isolates with weak or no BF ability. However, those isolates without BF ability caused produced more severe pathological changes than thoseat of the isolates with strong BF formation ability. These findings suggested that higher frequencies of BF ability and presence of novel enterotoxin genes were are important characteristics of S. aureus isolates from dairy cows in Xinjiang Province, China, and such isolateswhich may posed potential threats to food safety.

        Perampanel ameliorates nitroglycerin-induced migraine through inhibition of the cAMP/ PKA/CREB signaling pathway in the trigeminal ganglion in rats

        Background: Perampanel, a highly selective glutamate AMPA receptor antagonist, is widely used to treat epilepsy. Since the existence of common pathophysiological features between epilepsy and migraine, the aim of this study was to investigate whether perampanel could exert an antimigraine effect. Methods: Nitroglycerin (NTG) was used to induce a migraine model in rats, and the model animals were pretreatment with 50 μg/kg and 100 μg/kg perampanel. The expression of pituitary adenylate-cyclase-activating polypeptide (PACAP) was quantified by western blot and quantitative real-time PCR in the trigeminal ganglion, and rat-specific enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay in serum. Western blot was also conducted to explore the effects of perampanel treatment on the phospholipase C (PLC)/protein kinase C (PKC) and protein kinase A (PKA)/ cAMP-responsive-element-binding protein (CREB) signaling pathways. Moreover, the cAMP/PKA/CREB-dependent mechanism was evaluated via in vitro stimulation of hippocampal neurons. The cells were treated with perampanel, antagonists and agonists for 24 hours and cell lysates were prepared for western blot analysis. Results: Perampanel treatment notably increased the mechanical withdrawal threshold and decreased head grooming and light-aversive behaviors in NTG-treated rats. It also decreased PACAP expression and affected cAMP/ PKA/CREB signaling pathway. However, PLC/PKC signaling pathway may not be involved in this treatment. In in vitro studies, perampanel notably decreased PACAP expression by inhibiting cAMP/PKA/CREB signaling pathway. Conclusions: This study shows that perampanel inhibits the migraine-like pain response and that this beneficial effect might be attributable to regulation of the cAMP/PKA/CREB signaling pathway.

        PD Observer Design for Descriptor Systems: An LMI Approach

        This paper investigates the problem of proportional-derivative (PD) observer design for descriptor systems. A necessary and sufficient condition for the solvability of this problem is obtained in terms of a linear matrix inequality (LMI). The explicit expression of desired PD observer is also given, which involves solving an LMI. An illustrative example is provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

        Sensitivity analysis of rolling bearing fatigue life under cyclic loading

        Rolling bearings are regularly subjected to cyclic loading, and the load changing sequence has a significant influence on bearing fatigue life. The study offers a cumulative fatigue damage theory based on the improved Lundberg-Palmgren method that takes into account the effect of load changing sequence on bearing fatigue life and then proposes a modified Miner bearing fatigue life model. Additionally, the state function for the bearing fatigue life analysis is developed based on the basic dynamic load rating and stress-strength interference model of the bearing. A moment-based sensitivity analysis method for bearing fatigue life is proposed for studying the influence of different variables on bearing fatigue life. Finally, a sensitivity analysis of the fatigue life of 6209 deep groove ball bearings was performed as an example. The calculation results demonstrate that the modified Miner life model is comprehensive and that the moment-based sensitivity analysis method is simple and accurate.

        Adaptive Robust H∞ Sliding Mode Control for Singular Systems with Time-varying Delay and Uncertain Derivative Matrix

        This paper considers the problem of sliding mode control (SMC) design for a class of nonlinear singular systems with time-varying delay and uncertainties, especially with uncertainties in the derivative matrix. By taking uncertainties of the derivative matrix into account, the state augmentation transformation is constructed such that uncertainties of the derivative matrix are eliminated. Then an appropriate integral-type sliding surface function is designed. And the resulting sliding mode dynamics is an uncertain singular time-varying delay system. A delaydependent sufficient condition which guarantees the sliding mode dynamics to be admissible with H∞ performance is established. A new version of stabilization solvability condition is then proposed in terms of linear matrix inequality (LMI), which determines the undetermined parameter K in both the sliding surface function and the SMC laws. Moreover, two distinctive controllers (i.e., an SMC law and an adaptive SMC law) are synthesized such that the finite-time reachability of the predesigned sliding surface can be ensured. Finally, simulation examples are given to demonstrate the effectiveness and the merits of the proposed theory.
