Shukla, Sunil Kumar,Shukla, Chandra Prakash,Misra, Pradeep Kumar The Korean Society of Phycology 2008 ALGAE Vol.23 No.1

Forty-eight taxa of desmids belonging to Class Chlorophyceae (Order - Conjugales, Family - Desmidiaceae), collected from different aquatic habitats of Lalkuan, Kathgodam and Pantnagar areas of Uttaranchal state and Pilibheet district of Uttar Pradesh, which are regions of foothills of Western Himalaya, have been described. These taxa belongs to 5 genera viz. Closterium Nitzsch (6 spp., 5 var., and 2 forma), Euastrum Ehrenberg (1 var.), Staurastrum Meyen (2 spp., 1 var., 1 forma), Cosmarium Corda ex Ralfs (19 spp. and 10 var.), Pleurotaenium Naegeli (1 sp.). Staurastrum pseudopachyrhyncum Wolle (1884) is new record for desmid flora of India.

Using multi-source data and decision tree classification in mapping vegetation diversity

        Gaurav Shukla,Rahul Dev Garg,Pradeep Kumar,Hari Shanker Srivastava,Pradeep Kumar Garg 대한공간정보학회 2018 Spatial Information Research Vol.26 No.5

This study acknowledges the problem of land cover demarcation in diverse vegetation condition. The Normalized Difference Vegetation Index is used for the preparation of base map. Further identification of mix and incorrect classes was done using ground truth. Radar data in combination with optical indices are used. In different NDVI classes, rRV with additional criteria on Normalized Difference Water Index successfully demarcated waterlogged area, polarization ratio rRV/rRH and backscattering coefficient rRH are found suitable to separate bare land from dry grass land, sparse and dense scrub could be separated by - (rRV ? rRH)/2 and NDVI is efficient to identify dense vegetation. The study area is taken as Keoladeo National Park in Bharatpur, India. Statistical similarity between ground truth and classified class has been assessed using Jaccard coefficient (JC), Jaccard distance (JD), Dice coefficient (DC) and F-score. High similarity values of JC, JD, DC and F-score are achieved for all land cover types except bare land. Although, dry grassland showed low value of F-score; the reason could be low precision of class. The overall accuracy (87.17%), producer’s accuracy (86.39%), user’s accuracy (85.81%) and Kappa Coefficient (0.84) are also utilized to analyze performance of classifier.

Some Desmids from Garhwal Region of Uttarakhand, India

Pradeep Kumar Misra,Madhulika Shukla and Jai Prakash,Purnima Misra 한국조류학회I 2008 ALGAE Vol.23 No.3

The present paper consists of 42 taxa belonging to 7 genera of desmids (green algae) collected from two districts of Garhwal region of Uttarakhand (Western Himalayas). The district Haridwar is located 29° 55’ to 29° 59’ N latitude and 68° 5’ to 68° 30’ E longitude covering about 2360 km2 area and Dehradun district is situated between 77°34’ to 78° 18’ E longitude and 29° 58’ to 30° 58’ N latitude. Seven genera of desmids are (with number of taxa in parenthesis): Closterium Nitzsch. (9), Cosmarium Corda ex Ralfs (25), Euastrum Ehr. (2), Spondylosium Breb. (1), Micrasterias Ag. (1), Staurastrum Meyen (3), Arthrodesmus Ehr. (1). All these taxa constitute new records for the area. The algal localities are relatively cleaner than those of majority of urban areas. A rich assemblage of desmids shows that water bodies of these hilly areas are still undisturbed and need protection for preservation of algal biodiversity.

Effects of boron/nitrogen/phosphorus doping on the scavenging action of armchair single‑walled carbon nanotubes (armchair‑SWCNT) for OH radicals: a DFT study

Meenakshi Malakar,Pradeep Kumar Shukla 한국탄소학회 2023 Carbon Letters Vol.33 No.1

Hydroxyl radical (OH radical) is the most harmful free radical amongst the Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) responsible for numerous diseases of DNA damage like mutagenesis, carcinogenesis and ageing. Therefore, it is important to find a suitable scavenger for OH radical. In the present contribution, we aim to investigate the ability of pristine armchair-SWCNT and B/N/P-doped armchair-SWCNT to scavenge OH radicals using DFT calculations. The calculations reveal that the B/Pdoped armchair-SWCNTs can act as a better scavenger for OH radical compared to pristine armchair-SWCNT but N-doped armchair-SWCNT does not act as a better scavenger for OH radical compared to pristine armchair-SWCNT. Furthermore, the developed scavenger is examined in terms of large-scale availability, biocompatibility, conductivity, stability and reactivity. For both in vivo and in vitro studies, the work is found to useful for enhancing SWCNT as a free radical scavenger.

Invasive Fungal Infections and Their Epidemiology: Measures in the Clinical Scenario

        Vivek K. Bajpai,Imran Khan,Shruti Shukla,Pradeep Kumar,Irfan A. Rather,박용하,Yun Suk Huh,Young-Kyu Han 한국생물공학회 2019 Biotechnology and Bioprocess Engineering Vol.24 No.3

Fungi are increasingly recognized as major clinical pathogens in critically ill patients. Emerging groups of fungal pathogens such as Candida and Cryptococcus spp. are most frequently isolated from clinical setup, including filamentous fungi. Assessment of risk factors of these infections such as hospital-acquired fungal infection and environmental factors, including changes in medical practices and epidemiology as well as fungal infection mediated immunomodulation have provided important therapeutic options in the diagnosis of the fungal infections for clinicians. This review aims to furnish information on the factors affecting invasive fungal infections in a clinical scenario, especially for immunocompromised patients. A review of the recently published literature via PubMed, Elsevier and Medline database was performed. Relevant invasive fungal diseases and their worldwide cases were reviewed. Data on the immune response to the fungal infections in terms of release of anti-fungal effectors have been provided. Information on the anti-fungal mechanistic action via upregulation of immunity through predominant cytokines has been summarized, as well as factors affecting disease scenario of invasive fungal infections in clinical practices. The epidemiology and clinical features of fungal infections have also been reviewed.
