Kombucha is a widely consumed fermented tea beverage with diverse health benefits. In a previous study, we demonstrated that the use of cascara as a substrate results in a special kombucha beverage with high bioactivity. Traditional kombucha fermentation using a symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast (SCOBY) can lead to inconsistent product quality because of the lack of control over microbial composition. We successfully isolated and identified yeast and bacteria, including Saccharomyces cerevisiae, Komagataeibacter rhaeticus, and Lactobacillus brevis that are appropriate starter cultures for cascara kombucha fermentation. We also demonstrated that a supplementation with lactic acid bacteria (LAB) and a mixture of S. cerevisiae and K. rhaeticus resulted in higher total polyphenol and flavonoid content of cascara kombucha compared with the traditionally fermented product using SCOBY as the inoculum. The free radical scavenging activity, inhibitory effects on α-amylase, tyrosinase activity, and antibacterial properties of cascara kombucha were also enhanced as a result of LAB supplement. These findings provide valuable insights into the controlled microbiological composition required for the fermentation of cascara kombucha, thereby ensuring consistent quality and enhanced bioactivity of the product. Further, the use of cascara as a substrate for kombucha production not only offers various health benefits and biological effects, but also repurposes by-products from the coffee industry, which contributes to sustainable development and is eco-friendly.

Do Van Thach,Pham Dinh Ba,Soon-Geul Lee 제어로봇시스템학회 2017 제어로봇시스템학회 국제학술대회 논문집 Vol.2017 No.10
A ball segway is a ballbot-type robot that has a car-like structure. It can move with three omnidirectional-wheel mechanisms to drive the ball while maintaining balance. To obtain stable balancing and transferring simultaneously of the 2D ball segway which is an underactuated system, a control law is designed based on energy method. The energy storage function is formulated to prove the passivity property of the system. Simulation results show the effectiveness of our approach.

<P>Two porcine deltacoronavirus (PDCoV) strains (Binh21 and HaNoi6) were isolated from two pig farms in North Vietnam. Phylogenetic analysis of the complete genomes and the Spike and Membrane genes revealed that the two Vietnam PDCoVs belong to the same lineage as PDCoVs from Thailand and Laos; however, the N genes belonged to the same lineage as PDCoVs from the USA, Korea, China, and Hong Kong. The recombination detection program subsequently identified the major parent (S5011 strain) and minor parent (HKU15-44 strain) of the two Vietnam PDCoV strains (p < 0.01).</P>

A novel dosage form integrating solid dispersion(SD) in orally disintegrating tablets (ODTs) wasdeveloped and optimized by the face-centered centralcomposite design to improve poorly soluble property andslow onset action time of felodipine (Fel). SD of Fel andhydroxypropyl methylcellulose E6 was prepared by solventevaporation method. Differential scanning calorimetry andfourier transforms infrared spectroscopy indicated that Feltransformed from crystalline to amorphous state by theformation of hydrogen bond between –N–H in Fel and O–Rin HPMC. The accelerated stability test in 45 C, 75 % RHdemonstrated that the optimized SD was stable in terms ofthe dissolution rate of Fel and thermodynamic property. The ODTs containing SD (Fel:HPMC E6 = 1:3) wereprepared by direct compression technique. The face-centeredcentral composite design with the ODT-SD wasemployed to investigate the effect of mannitol (X1),crospovidone XL (X2) on the ODT-SD disintegration time(Y1), % Fel released after 5 min (Y2) and the ODT-SDfriability (Y3). ANOVA test showed that X2 and X2 * X2had a significant effect on the ODT-SD disintegration time(p\0.05). Meanwhile, the dissolution rate of Fel after5 min did not remarkably depend on any independentvariables (p[0.05). The ODT-SD friability was substantiallyproportional to the amount of mannitol (X1)(p\0.05). The optimized ODT-SD disintegration time, %Fel released after 5 min, and friability were 27.67 s, 88.35and 0.48 %, respectively.

Purpose The study aimed firstly to determine the release behavior of the model drug (berberine chloride) from the dry coated tablets. The second objective of this study was to evaluate the exact location of the dry coated tablets in in vivo. Methods The colon targeting tablets were developed by dry powder coating technique on pan coater. The drug release behavior was determined in the three continuous mediums: pH 1.2; 7.4 and 6.8 plus pectinase. The location of the dry coated tablets in the gastrointestinal tract of human volunteers was observed through the X-ray imaging of the dry coated tablets containing the optimized radiocontrast agents. Results The release kinetics of berberine chloride from the dry coated tablets was mainly controlled by erosion and enzyme sensitive mechanism. The optimum dry coated tablets having the coating powders of pectin 102:HPMC K4 M (2:1) with the coating level of 200%, and the tablet core with BaSO4 10% and iobitridol 30% as radiocontrast agents were observed in the caecum and ascending colon of human volunteers after 5–6 h of oral administration. Conclusion The successful development of these dosage forms is believed to have a high potential in precisely monitoring the release of highly potent drugs such as anti-inflammatory drugs in bowel diseases.

We demonstrated domain wall (DW)-induced anomalous magnetoresistance (MR) generated in asymmetric and symmetric ferrimagnetic Tb/Co multilayered, and Tb–Co alloyed wires. The extraordinary Hall effect (EHE)- induced circulating currents in the vicinity of DWs between longitudinal voltage probes are assigned to the anomalous MR. A large anomalous MR ~1.5% was obtained in the asymmetric Tb/Co multilayered wire. The large MR can be attributed to an addition of spin Hall current with a long coherence length from an adjacent Pt layer. These results open new possibilities for the use of ferrimagnetic multilayered wires beyond multi-function devices.

Kombucha, a fermented beverage, is gaining popularity due to its numerous beneficial health effects. Various substrates such as herbs, fruits, flowers, and vegetables, have been used for kombucha fermentation in order to enhance the flavor, aroma, and nutritional composition. This study aims to investigate the potential suitability of cascara as a novel ingredient for kombucha production. Our findings suggested that cascara is a suitable substrate for kombucha production. Fermentation elevated the total phenolic and flavonoid content in cascara, which enhanced the antioxidant, antibacterial, and prebiotic characteristics of the product. Furthermore, the accumulation of acetic acid-induced the pH lowering reached 2.7 after 14 days of fermentation, which achieved the microbiological safety of the product. Moreover, 14 days of fermentation resulted in a balanced amalgamation of acidity, sweetness, and fragrance according to sensory evaluation. Our findings not only highlight the potential of cascara kombucha as a novel substrate for kombucha production but also contribute to repurposing coffee by-products, promoting environmentally friendly and sustainable agricultural development.
