Intramuscular hemangioma in the zygomaticus minor muscle: a case report and literature review

Intramuscular hemangioma is a rare vascular benign proliferation that can occur within any muscle, particularly in the trunk and extremities. In the head and neck region, the masseter muscle is most commonly involved, followed by the periorbital and sternocleidomastoid muscles. Diagnosing intramuscular hemangioma is challenging because there are no characteristic symptoms; instead, magnetic resonance imaging is the best imaging modality to diagnose these lesions. Complete surgical resection is the treatment of choice, although the local recurrence rate is high. Herein, we report a rare case of intramuscular hemangioma located in the zygomaticus minor muscle, which is related to smiling and usually runs along the orbicularis oculi muscle. Distinguishing or separating these two muscles is challenging. However, based on the muscle vector of the midface and radiological findings, the two muscles were successfully separated. The zygomaticus minor was cut very slightly to approach to the lesion and the muscle fibers were split to excise it. A follow-up examination revealed no nerve damage or muscle dysfunction at 4 weeks postoperatively. This rare case may serve as a reference for managing intramuscular hemangioma in the head and neck region.

<P>In this study, we report an oral drug delivery system without any additional process using pH-sensitive biopolymer, alginate, and alginate oligosaccharide with lysozyme as a model drug. These biopolymers exhibited pH-sensitive characteristics such as shrinking at acidic pH and eroding with dissolution at alkaline pH. The incorporation of lysozyme and biopolymers was performed an artificial intestinal juice (pH 6.8). The immobilization efficiency and lysozyme stability in gastric juice (pH 1.2) has been tested by E. coli antimicrobial activity. The lysozyme without biopolymer immobilization lost similar to 80-90% of antimicrobial activity than that of pure lysozyme. However, the pH-sensitive biopolymer-controlled lysozyme maintained similar antimicrobial activity compared to that of pure lysozyme (50-90% of cell mortality). Therefore, this simple, easy, and rapid system can be effectively and practically applied for pathogen treatment for in vivo oral drug delivery.</P>
A Next-Generation Friction Burn Caused by a Cordless Vacuum Cleaner

Consumers today are increasingly using a new type of vacuum cleaner with a soft roller head. Among injuries from the use of household appliances, vacuum cleaner-related friction burns tend to be underestimated in their severity, compared to treadmill-related friction burns, which have been explored more extensively in literature. We present the case of a 17-month-old child with a whitish eschar on the volar side of her right fourth toe, which had been sucked into the rotating soft roller head of one of the new cordless vacuum cleaners. Initially, the wound resembled a simple abrasion, but it was whitish enough for us to suspect a full-thickness burn. We performed gauze rubbing for granulation with a biologic dressing material and basic fibroblast growth factor. The burn took more than 3 weeks to heal completely. It is essential to reappraise the severity of friction burns caused by the more recent vacuum cleaner models with powered rollers and to establish appropriate treatment protocols.

본 논문은 분노, 행복, 평정, 슬픔, 놀람 등과 같은 인간의 감정상태를 인식하는 새로운 접근에 대해 설명한다. 이러한 시도는 이산길이를 포함하는 연속 은닉 마르코프 모델(HMM)을 사용함으로써 이루어진다. 이를 위해, 우선 입력음성신호로부터 감정의 특징 파라메타를 정의한다. 본 연구에서는 피치 신호, 에너지, 그러고 각각의 미분계수 등의 운율 파라메타를 사용하고, HMM으로 훈련과정을 거친다. 또한, 화자적응을 위해서 최대 사후확률(MAP) 추정에 기초한 감정 모델이 이용된다. 실험 결과, 음성에서의 감정 인식률은 적응 샘플수의 증가에 따라 점차적으로 증가함을 보여준다.
The Current Incidence and Future Projection of Acetabular Fractures in Korea

Background: As one of the most challenging fractures to orthopedic surgeons, acetabular fractures show a wide range of incidence among countries and regions with even more variance in the treatment modalities. In this study, we aimed to investigate the epidemiology of acetabular fractures, and to compare the rate of subsequent total hip arthroplasty (THA) between nonoperative and operative treatments in South Korea using a medical claims database. Methods: This was a retrospective study using the Korean Health Insurance Review and Assessment database. Patients admitted for acetabular fractures from January 2007 to December 2018 were identified using International Classification of Diseases-10 codes. Kaplan-Meier survival analysis was used to compare the cumulative incidence of THA between two groups. We also evaluated the survivorship of operative group according to the type of institutions. Results: The incidence rate of acetabular fractures increased by 28% between 2007 and 2018. Acetabular fractures were more common in men (62%) than women (38%), and most common in the patients older than 80 years. The number of acetabular fractures was estimated to increase 1.7-fold in 2030 compared to 2018. Operative treatment accounted for 16% of cases, and nonoperative treatment for 84%. The incidence of subsequent THA was higher in the operative treatment group than in the nonoperative group (P < 0.001). The higher rate in the operative treatment group is probably related with the severity of the fracture type. The rate of subsequent THA was higher in patients who initially treated in general hospitals compared with those who were initially treated in tertiary hospitals. Conclusion: The incidence of acetabular fractures is increasing in South Korea, in line with global trends. Most acetabular fractures are treated conservatively, and those who receive surgery are more likely to require a subsequent THA. Patients who were operated in general hospitals had highest possibility of subsequent THA after acetabular fractures.
RSSI Based Path Finding of Mobile Robot in Sensor Network

We propose a new path finding approach for a mobile robot using the RF strength in a sensor network. In experiments based on the proposed method, a mobile robot finds its location, heading direction, and the shortest path under an indoor environment. The mobile robot is equipped with a base station to receive data from the environment around each node. When the robot moves from one point to another, it checks the strength of the received signal to find its path and uses a Kalman filter to reduce the error of the tangent. The experimental results show the effectiveness and applicability of the proposed method in path finding of a mobile robot.
