Superalloys which can be devided into three categories, i.e. Ni-base, Co-base, and Fe-base alloys are widely used for high temperature applications. Since superalloys contain many alloying elements and precipitates, its chemistty and processing parameters need to be carefully designed. In this review, current state-of-the art in the superalloy technologies is described with special attention to the heat-treatment for the control of the microstructures and mechanical properties.
PLASMA 이온 질화처리 한 Ti-6Al-4V의 표면물성에 관한 연구

The purpose of this study is to improve the surface hardness and corrosion resistance of Ti-6Al-4V by ion nitriding treatment. As well known, the ion nitriding is widely used an effective surface hardening method and principal parameters of the ion nitriding are temperature and time. Ti-6Al-4V alloys were ion-nitrided under the atmosphere of the nitrogen-hydrogen mixture gas and surface modified layers were observed. Experimental results represent that the surface modified layers are formed as a multiphases of TiN and Ti₂N. The hardness of the layers are in the range Hv of 1000 to 2000. The multiphase layers also showed excellent corrosion resistance in 2 Mol HCl solution at room temperature, comparing to the non-coated layers. The kinetics show that the growth of the layers by N₂ diffusion were proportional to t½. The kinetics energy for the formation of nitride layers was 174KJ/mol.

The LCF properties for R=0 as tension-tension and R=-1 as tension-compression were examined in DA alloy718. While the hysteresis loops composed of ?ε_(t), ?ε_(p) and ?σ were figured with similaity in both of R=0 and R=-1, the loops of R=0 were continuely going down along the stress axis during cyclic fatigue progressing. It was caused by Bauschinger effect, which includes a tendancy for stress recovering as an amount of compression stress. The phenomena of cyclic softening in both of R=0 and R=1 seem to be caused by planar slip of dislocations, which was accompanied by shearing the γ'/γ" precipitates during the cyclic fatigue test.
Effect of the foliar application of selenium on selenium content of whole- crop barley

A field experiment was conducted to evaluate the varietal variation of Se concentration and to determine the effects of selenium foliar applications on the productivity and agronomic characteristics of the whole-crop barleys. Se fertilizer was foliar applied at five levels(0, 50, 100, 200, 400 ppm) and two forms (sodium selenite and sodium selenate solution) at stem elongation stage, the middle of April. Cultivar effects on whole-plant Se contents were small and not significant. Regardless treatments, there were no remarkable effects on dry matter yield and forage quality of whole crop barleys. Se contents of plant was higher in selenate application by 3~10 times than selenite. In selenate treatments, as Se levels were raised from 50 ppm to 400ppm the Se contents were increased from 331ppb to 3433ppb and Se contents were positively correlated with the rate of Se application levels. Selenium(Se) is an essential nutritional trace element, which is needed for growth and reproduction in all living animals. But the line between the requirement and harmfulness of Se is narrow since selenium is a highly toxic element. The level of Se in feeds of plant varies depending on plant species, growing season and soil which the plants grow on. Because of low concentration of Se in domestic soils, the selenium availability to plants is limited and it is necessary to supplement feed with selenium. Generally organic Se is less toxic and more efficiently utilized than inorganic Se. Under the condition that antibiotics use in feed are prohibited, selenium enriched whole-crop barley can be one way to improve animal health.

Sliding wear of a nitriding steel against heat-resisting alloys, Incoloy 901 and 12%Cr steel, is investigated. Armsler-type wear tests are carried out at 540℃ under dry-air condition. Weight change during wear tests is measured by intermittent balancing method and wear debris is examined by traditional metallographic techniques. Regardless of the composition and surface condition, the heat-resisting alloys adhere to the non-nitrided nitriding steel samples at the early stage of wear, leading to a weight gain of the samples. When the nitriding steel samples are nitrided, they undergo erosion from the early stage of wear tests, leading to a weight loss. In this case, the base materials under nitrided layer become exposed during wear tests to the heat-resisting alloys. Worn surfaces of the non-nitrided samples show a complex morphology following the formation of surface-adhered layer and its successive delamination.
크리프-피로 상호작용영역에서 Waspaloy 합금에 대한 저주기 피로 수명예측

This paper describes the empirical rule of strain rate modified linear accumulation of creep damage(SRM rule) for low-cycle fatigue(LCF) life prediction of Waspaloy in the creep-fatigue interaction regime and Chaboche type unified viscoplastic model predicting the stress-strain response in various cyclic loading conditions. The comparison of the experimental data and the predictions for strain controlled LCF tests carried out for various strain ranges at 600℃ and 650℃ was made. Chaboche type unified viscoplastic model described efficiently the inelastic deformation behavior during LCF tests. Crack-initiation lifing method to predict the material life was investigated with strain rate modification(SRM) rule. The application of SRM rule to LCF tests on Waspaloy indicated a good agreement between measured and predicted cycles to failure.
