Elevated linear parks have the potential to support the ecological stability, city amenity, cultural opportunity, and health benefits of urban dwellers; these are increasingly becoming an integral part of the urban infrastructure. Due to structural limitations in space, linear parks need to be planned to increase the value of green space. This study was aimed at advancing urban planning techniques for increasing the value of elevated linear parks, by comparing the Seoullo7017 with the Promenade plantee and the Highline. Planning characteristics of these green spaces were analyzed from the perspectives of physical planning factors, amenity values for users, and management systems. Field surveys and virtual tools were used to investigate the current characteristics of these parks, in addition to the literature survey. From the analysis of planning factors, amenity values, and management in the three linear parks, following important recommendations were made in order to promote the values of these parks: (a) diversify planting design for increasing the diversity of green space in a narrow area; (b) bring in various forms of amenities to promote the quality of users' experience; and (c) establish community-based management systems for enhancing regional competitiveness and profit sharing in urban regeneration projects.

<P>We report an Ag nanofiber-embedded glass-fabric reinforced hybrimer (AgNF-GFRHybrimer) composite film as a reliable and high-performance flexible transparent conducting film. The continuous AgNF network provides superior optoelectronic properties of the composite film by minimizing transmission loss and junction resistance. In addition, the excellent thermal/chemical stability and mechanical durability of the GFRHybrimer matrix provides enhanced mechanical durability and reliability of the final AgNF-GFRHybrimer composite film. To demonstrate the availability of our AgNF-GFRHybrimer composite as a transparent conducting film, we fabricated a flexible organic light-emitting diode (OLED) device on the AgNF-GFRHybrimer film; the OLED showed stable operation during a flexing.</P>
우울 수준에 따른 가상멀미 경험이 가상현실 기반 신경인지과제 수행에 미치는 영향 : 고령집단을 중심으로

본 연구는 고령 집단에서 가상현실기반 평가 및 치료를 활용하는데 있어, 주요 장애물이 될 수 있는 가상멀미의 영향을 탐색하기 위해 진행되었다. 이 가운데서도 신경인지과제 수행 시, 우울감의 수준에따라 가상멀미가 과제수행에 미치는 영향을 탐색하고자 하였으며, 이를 확인하기 위하여 만 50세 이상성인 73명이 (1) 가상현실 기반 신경인지과제, (2) 가상멀미 수준과 우울을 측정하는 자기보고식 설문을 완료하였다. 연구 결과, 우울감이 클수록 가상현실 프로그램 시행에 따른 가상멀미 변화량이 커지는 경향을 보이며, 준임상 수준 이상에 해당하는 고우울 집단에서는 가상멀미가 가상현실기반 신경인지과제 수행에 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 저우울 집단에서는 이러한 영향이 유의하지 않았다. 이를 통해 준임상수준 이상의 고우울 집단에서는 지각된 가상멀미 수준이 가상현실기반 신경인지과제 수행에 부정적 영향을 미칠 수 있음이 시사되었다. 이러한 결과는 향후 고령의 우울집단에서 가상현실 치료를 활성화하기 위해, 주요 부작용인 가상멀미의 영향을 확인했다는 점에서 의의가 있으며, 이를 비롯한 본 연구의 의의와 한계점 및 후속 연구에 대해 논의하였다. This study was conducted to explore the effects of simulator sickness, which can be a major obstacle in the use of virtual reality-based evaluation and treatment in the elderly group. Also, the effect of depression level on simulator sickness and a virtual reality (VR)-based neurocognitive task performance was investigated. Seventy-three participants over the age of 50 years completed the (1) VR-based neurocognitive task and (2) self-report questionnaires measuring simulator sickness, and depressive symptoms. The results indicated that depression predicts the severity of perceived simulator sickness, and simulator sickness had a significant effect on the performance of the virtual reality-based neurocognitive task in a group with sub-clinical or clinical levels of depression. Based on the results, the implications, limitations and suggestions for future studies were discussed.
PBT-6, a Novel PI3KC2γ Inhibitor in Rheumatoid Arthritis

Phosphoinositide 3-kinase (PI3K) is considered as a promising therapeutic target for rheumatoid arthritis (RA) because of its involvement in inflammatory processes. However, limited studies have reported the involvement of PI3KC2γ in RA, and the underlying mechanism remains largely unknown. Therefore, we investigated the role of PI3KC2γ as a novel therapeutic target for RA and the effect of its selective inhibitor, PBT-6. In this study, we observed that PI3KC2γ was markedly increased in the synovial fluid and tissue as well as the PBMCs of patients with RA. PBT-6, a novel PI3KC2γ inhibitor, decreased the cell growth of TNFmediated synovial fibroblasts and LPS-mediated macrophages. Furthermore, PBT-6 inhibited the PI3KC2γ expression and PI3K/ AKT signaling pathway in both synovial fibroblasts and macrophages. In addition, PBT-6 suppressed macrophage migration via CCL2 and osteoclastogenesis. In CIA mice, it significantly inhibited the progression and development of RA by decreasing arthritis scores and paw swelling. Three-dimensional micro-computed tomography confirmed that PBT-6 enhanced the joint structures in CIA mice. Taken together, our findings suggest that PI3KC2γ is a therapeutic target for RA, and PBT-6 could be developed as a novel PI3KC2γ inhibitor to target inflammatory diseases including RA.
Predictable and Reliable ECG Monitoring over IEEE 802.11 WLANs Within a Hospital

<P>Telecardiology provides mobility for patients who require constant electrocardiogram (ECG) monitoring. However, its safety is dependent on the predictability and robustness of data delivery, which must overcome errors in the wireless channel through which the ECG data are transmitted. We report here a framework that can be used to gauge the applicability of IEEE 802.11 wireless local area network (WLAN) technology to ECG monitoring systems in terms of delay constraints and transmission reliability. For this purpose, a medical-grade WLAN architecture achieved predictable delay through the combination of a medium access control mechanism based on the point coordination function provided by IEEE 802.11 and an error control scheme based on Reed-Solomon coding and block interleaving. The size of the jitter buffer needed was determined by this architecture to avoid service dropout caused by buffer underrun, through analysis of variations in transmission delay. Finally, we assessed this architecture in terms of service latency and reliability by modeling the transmission of uncompressed two-lead electrocardiogram data from the MIT-BIH Arrhythmia Database and highlight the applicability of this wireless technology to telecardiology.</P>

Some chemicals commonly used in personal care products, household items, food vessels, cosmetics, and other consumer products are potentially harmful, and several reviews of epidemiological studies have suggested the associations between the chemical exposure from consumer products, and respiratory diseases, skin sensitization, and reproductive problems. Therefore, risk assessment is essential for management of consumer products safety. Necessarily, the estimation of human exposure is an essential step in risk assessment, and the absorption rate of those chemicals via the gastrointestinal tract, respiratory tract, and skin are very critical in determining the internal dose of the exposed chemicals. In this study, parallel artificial membrane permeability assays (PAMPA) for the gastrointestinal tract and skin were performed to evaluate the permeability of parabens (4-hydroxybenzoic acid, methyl-, propyl-, and butyl paraben), bisphenols (bisphenol A, bisphenol F, and bisphenol S), isothiazolinones (methyl-, chloromethyl-, benz-, octyl-, and dichlorooctyl isothiazolinone), and phthalates [diethyl-, dibutyl-, Di-isononyl-, and bis(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate]. Lipid solubility of test chemicals indicated by log P values was shown as the most critical factor and showed a positive association with the permeability of parabens, bisphenols, and isothiazolinones in PAMPA assay. However, phthalate showed a reverse-association between lipophilicity and permeability. The permeability of all the tested chemicals was higher in the gastrointestinal tract membrane than in the skin membrane. The pH in donor solution did not show significant effects on the permeability in all the chemicals, except the chemicals with a free hydrophilic moiety in their chemical structures.

Methylisothiazolinone (MIT) has been used in combination with methylchloroisothiazolinone (CMIT) for cosmetic products such as shampoo, body lotion, and skin care products. The mixture of CMIT/MIT has been found to cause allergic contact dermatitis and is thus no longer permitted for use as a preservative in leave-on cosmetics. However, MIT itself was approved as a stand-alone preservative at a maximum concentration of 100 ppm as the toxicity was derived from CMIT rather than MIT. However, in many countries, allergic skin irritation caused by MIT remains a social concern. In this study, skin irritation was assessed for the presence of MIT, propylene glycol, and their mixture using a 3D human skin model EpiDermTM. Although non-diluted MIT causes serious skin toxicity, skin irritation was not observed at a concentration of 100 ppm, the maximum permissible level for cosmetics and personal care products according to European regulations. Propylene glycol, the most widely used vehicle for MIT, did not cause skin irritation in the 3D skin model. The results are expected to provide information for regulatory policies and guidelines on the use of biocides in consumer products.

<P>This paper presents new methods for measuring similarity between generalized intuitionistic fuzzy sets (GIFSs) and its application to pattern recognition. Firstly, the geometrical interpretation of GIFSs is carefully reviewed and then the results of the interpretation is utilized to generate new methods for measuring similarity in order to calculate the degree of similarity between GIFSs. Numerical example is given to illustrate the application of the proposed similarity measures. Finally, we also use the proposed similarity measures to characterize the similarity between linguistic-variables.</P>
