Tungsten mono-carbide (WC) nanoparticles supported on multiwalled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) was synthesized by a microwave-assisted solid-state carburization. The prepared samples were used as a co-catalyst to prepare Pt-WC/MWCNT catalyst for a proton-exchange membrane fuel cell. MWCNTs with and without oxidative pretreatments were characterized as the starting precursors. The influence of the carbide formation conditions on the physicochemical characteristics of the final product were extensively investigated. According to the results, surface pretreatment of the MWCNTs can improve the yield of carbide formation. Furthermore, carburization process can improve the catalyst utilization due to increasing the number of surface defects of the MWCNT supporting materials which can be interpreted as structural effect of the carburization process. It is believed that the superior performance of electrodes modified with tungsten carbide is mostly due to the structural effect of the carburization process and synergistic effect between the electrocatalytic activity of WC and Pt.

Objective: Our aim was to determine the correlation between dental treatment need as assessed by the components of the index of orthodontic treatment need (IOTN) and a self-evaluation questionnaire in a population selected from the dental clinics of Shiraz, Iran. Methods: The dental treatment needs of 240 participants (120 men and 120 women) were measured on the basis of the IOTN dental health component (IOTN-DHC), IOTN aesthetic component (IOTN-AC), IOTN AC determined by the examiner (IOTN-ACE), and a self-evaluation questionnaire (SEQ). The correlations between the treatment needs assessed by all the methods as well as the correlations of the treatment needs with age and gender were assessed using a Spearman's correlation coefficient (${\alpha}$ = 0.01). Results: All methods were significantly correlated ($p{\leq}0.001$). The associations of IOTN-ACE with IOTN-DHC and SEQ were moderately significant (rho = 0.49 and 0.41, respectively). The associations of IOTN-AC with IOTN-DHC and SEQ were weakly significant (rho = 0.24 and 0.35, respectively). The IOTN-DHC was moderately associated with SEQ (rho = 0.53). Gender and age were not associated with treatment needs estimated by any of the methods used ($p$ > 0.06). Conclusions: The correlations between the self-evaluation and the IOTN components in young adults were close to those reported in children, and IOTN-ACE was more reliable than IOTN-AC.

Nitrogen, sulfur and phosphorous atoms were chemically introduced to graphene oxide nanostructure(NSP-GO) to construct a corrosion inhibitor for mild steel in a 3.5 wt% NaCl solution. The anticorrosiveeffects of NSP-GO on two synthesized water-soluble polymeric compounds, melamine formaldehyde(MF) and urea formaldehyde (UF), were investigated in the saline environment. With NSP-GO, theinhibition efficiency of 93% (for UF) and 95% (MF) reached to ~100% for both composites at 500 ppmconcentration. The heteroatoms of decorated GO sheets act like anchors to pull GO sheets towards themetal surface and make MF and UF polymersfilms as full protectors.

Temperature fluctuations are inevitable in sour oil and gas production. In this study, the H2S corrosion of 304L and 316L alloys was investigated at pH 3 and temperatures of 20-60 °C using DC and AC electrochemical techniques. Two-fold increases in the corrosion rates of both alloys were reported with increases in temperature to 60 °C. In the 304L alloy, the surface layer was observed to be 3% rougher and 34%thicker than that of the 316L alloy. The two alloys exhibited different corrosion behaviors in the temperature ranges of 20-40 °C and 40-60 °C. Although the 316L alloy revealed a greater corrosion resistance at the free potential condition, the passivation on the 304L alloy was significantly greater than that of the 316L alloy at 40 °C and 15 ppm H2S. The FeS2 and combined FeS2-MoS2 compounds contributed to the surface layer constituents in the 304L and 316L alloys, respectively. The increase in temperature kinetically provided more favorable conditions for FeS2 than MoS2 formation, i.e. it had a relatively constructive effect on the 304L alloy passivation.
