      • Mechanical properties of ABS resin reinforced with recycled CFRP

Ogi, Keiji,Nishikawa, Takashi,Okano, Yasutaka,Taketa, Ichiro The Korean Society for Composite Materials 2007 Advanced composite materials Vol.16 No.2

This paper presents the mechanical properties of a composite consisting of acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) resin mixed with carbon fiber reinforced plastics (CFRP) pieces (CFRP/ABS). CFRP pieces made by crushing CFRP wastes were utilized in this material. Nine kinds of CFRP/ABS compounds with different weight fraction and size of CFRP pieces were prepared. Firstly, tensile and flexural tests were performed for the specimens with various CFRP content. Next, fracture surfaces of the specimens were microscopically observed to investigate fracture behavior and fiber/resin interface. Finally, the tensile modulus and strength were discussed based on the macromechanical model. It is found that the elastic modulus increases linearly with increasing CFRP content while the strength changes nonlinearly. Microscopic observation revealed that most carbon fibers are separated individually and dispersed homogeneously in ABS resin. Epoxy resin particles originally from CFRP are dispersed in ABS resin and seem to be in good contact with surrounding resin. The modulus and strength can be expressed using a macromechanical model taking account of fiber orientation, length and interfacial bonding in short fiber composites.

Vol.12 No.-

This study explains the effect of religious organizations’ programs of active Christian churches in Japan operated mainly by people originally from the Korean Peninsula(Korean Churches) on the faith of international marriage couples. Previous studies on Korean Churches, they have been focused on religious programs and followers of the relationship between Korean Churches, however international marriage couples have been overlooked. Initially, the wives in the surveyed couples(Korean newcomer wife and Japanese husband) diligently practiced their religion at a church that was familiar with their language and customs while the husbands took part in the same church as peripheral believers accompanying their wives. However, after 2008, as the number of followers at the church decreased and the proportion of the group of permanent resident followers of Japan grew in comparison, the number of religious programs to fix Japanese speakers at the church increased. Under such circumstances, the husbands began participating in church activities of their own accord and began to target the way of faith of their wives. While some International marriage couples became central members of the church in this way, some couples switched to another church after prioritizing their marital relationship and religious hierarchical relationship over the sense of identification with a specific church. This study posits that while the church’s religious programs to fix Japanese speakers at the church seemed to activated participating in church among Japanese husbands and re-perceive the differences in religious practice between International marriage couples who follow Christianity in the point of view of faith, it can actually become a cause for both the husband and wife to leave the church.

      • Development of Concurrent Design Environment Using Super High Definition Image

Vol.2010 No.8

Though the concept of concurrent design has spread and various design tools have been used, the design environment that supports the designers’ collaborative work has not been discussed enough. In this study, CDF (Concurrent Design Facility) was developed as a collaborative design environment in which designers, researchers and managers can discuss with each other while sharing the necessary data. The feature of CDF is that the users can share the intuitive, accurate and high presence information by using the super high definition stereo image projected by 4K projectors. In this study, as the mechanisms of sharing images between the center screen and each user’s terminal, command capture method and screen capture method were introduced, and the effectiveness of these methods for the collaborative work was evaluated.

      • Electrical properties of ABS resin reinforced with recycled CFRP

Nishikawa, Takashi,Ogi, Keiji,Tanaka, Toshiro,Okano, Yasutaka,Taketa, Ichiro The Korean Society for Composite Materials 2007 Advanced composite materials Vol.16 No.1

Composite materials consisting of crushed carbon fiber reinforced plastics (CFRP) pieces and acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) resin were prepared by an injection mold method to solve the problem of recycling of CFRP. The electrical properties, such as electrical resistivity, alternating current impedance and electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding effect, were measured for the composites. The electrical resistivity of the composites showed a percolation type of conduction behavior and no difference between parallel and perpendicular to the injection direction was observed for CFRP content higher than the critical value. Measurement of alternating current impedance revealed that the conduction mechanism is attributed to the direct conductive paths generated by distributed carbon fibers; however, strong frequency dependence of the impedance was observed for the CFRP content near the critical one. The frequency dependence of the impedance is caused by the inter-fiber connection and can be expressed as a simple equivalent circuit. The absorption component of shielding effect (SE) was smaller than the expected value estimated from its resistivity. The decline of SE is thought to be caused by the decrease in effective thickness due to fiber orientation.

      • Effects of Alloy Compositions (Cu and Mg ) and Aging Conditions on the Age Hardening Characteristics of Al-Si-Cu-Mg Cast Alloys

Vol.22 No.2

TEM analysis was applied to the investigation on age hardening processes of a commercial JIS ACAB alloy and the similar compositions of pure N-Si-Cu and Al-Si-Cu-Mg cast alloys. A series of alloy specimens were solution treated at 773K for l0hr and subsequently aged at 433K and 473K for l0min to 10⁴min. The typical hardness-aging time relations are obtained on each alloy specimen. The maximum hardness of specimen aged at 433K becomes larger from Hv95 to Hv152 as the Mg content of alloy increases from 0 to 0.43mass%. TEM reveals many dislocations around eutectic Si particles, which should be introduced into aphase during quenching from solution treatment emperature, because of the difference in the thermal expansion coefficient between α-natrix and eutectic Si. The formation of GP Zone is suppressed and the precipitation of θ' is promoted in the ternary 4-Si-Cu alloy, which contains higher density of dislocations. Many tiny particles of Mn-rich compound precipitate in the α matrix of solution-treated. AC4B alloy, which decrease the Cu content of a phase and the age-hardening ability of the alloy.

      • Influence of Microstructures on Mechanical Properties of Al-Si-Cu-Mg Cast Alloys

Vol.5 No.1

A commercial Al-Si-Cu base alloy (JIS AC4B) and the similar compositions of pure alloys with 0 to 0.7%Fe were solidified at the cooling rate of 2.7 to 14.4K/s. Tensile tests and quantitative microstructure analysis were performed on the as cast specimens and T_6specimens. Tensile strength (бB) increased as the microstructure became finer. бB rose linearly with decreasing of secondary dendrite arm spacing(DAS) of primary α , while the modification of eutectic Si with Sr had a smaller effect. The crack propagated along dendrite arms and the fracture surface exhibited a structure whose coarseness was close to DAS. Fe-rich intermetallic compounds took the acicular and chinese script type shapes. Higher cooling rate and more Sr addition promoted the crystallization of chinese type one. The Fe-rich compounds decreased the elongation, though they tended to raise the yield strength. TEM analysis revealed that the aging process was influenced by eutectic Si and minor elements, however the these phenomena may have little influence on tensile properties.

Grain Structure and Texture Evolutions during Single Crystal Casting of the Ni-Base Superalloy CMSX-4

2009 METALS AND MATERIALS International Vol.15 No.3

The solidification grain structure and texture evolutions during single crystal (SX) casting of the advanced Ni-base superalloy CMSX-4 have been investigated. In order to understand the development of the solidification grain structure, SX casting experiments were carried out with a specially designed grain selector in a Bridgman directional solidification (DS) furnace. In addition to casting trials, the SX casting process was simulated by a 3-D cellular automaton-finite element (CAFE) model. The predicted solidification grain structure and the texture evolutions were validated by comparison with the microstructural observation and the electron back scattered diffraction (EBSD) results. It was shown that the overall grain structure, crystallographic texture evolution, and the location where the final selection of the single crystal occurs can be predicted well by the present CAFE model. The axial texture evolution of the single crystal was found to be significantly influenced by the grain density at the chill surface. The CAFE predictions also revealed that the geometry of the grain selector plays a significant role in the final selection of the single crystal.
