Vibration-Isolation Characteristics in a Damped Vibration system with Thixotropic Materials

The dynamic behavior of a damped vibration system containing thixotropic materials is experimentally investigated. Thixotropic materials are substances that liquefy when they are stirred or shaken and return to the hardened state upon standing. We construct a vibration system containing thixotropic material and performed vibration tests using the vibration system with two rotating unbalances turning in opposite directions. The amplitudes of the transmitted force to the foundation and the displacement of the mass are measured. The tests indicate that the damped system containing thixotropic materials shows good vibration characteristics. As the consistency ol thixotropic materials increases, the transmitted force at resonance decreases, and even the degree of increase of the transmitted force at the higher values of the forcing frequency is smaller than in the experimental results of the viscous damper. These dynamic characteristics enable vibration to be significantly isolated in this system when the excitation frequency is changed.

Bacteriorhodopsin (bR) and halorhodopsin (hR), which exist in the membrane of Halobacterium salinarum, are light-driven ion pumps. In spite of high similarity of primary and tertiary structures between bR and hR, these membrane proteins transport different ions, proton and chloride, in the opposite direction. From alignment of the amino acid sequences, Thr-89 of bR is homologous to Ser-l15 of hR from Halobacterium salinarum (shR). X-ray structure of shR has revealed that OH group of this residue directly interacts with CI$\^$-/ Thus, Ser-lI5 of shR is expected to play an important role in CI$\^$-/ binding and transport. In this study, we expressed wild type hR from Natronobacterium pharaonis (PhR) and Sl30A, which corresponds to Ser-l15 of shR, in E. coli in order to clarify binding affinity of chloride ion and photocycle reactions. From the titration with CI$\^$-/, affinity of Sl30A became quite lower than that of WT (WT 6 mM, Sl30A 89 mM). Furthermore, from the flash photolysis with pulse laser of λ$\_$max/ at 532 nm, the reaction rate of SI30A from 0 intermediate to hR ground state was found to become apparently slower than that of WT. The singular value decomposition (SVD) and global fitting analyses of the photocycles were performed to identify all photointermediates and determine the reaction rates.
Low Cost PLD with High Speed Partial Reconfiguration

Recently, Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) have been used for implementing various types of logic functions. But the conventional FPGAs have the following problems. The conventional FPGAs include switch matrixes for programmable connection, but the switch matrix occupies a significantly large area of the FPGA. As another problem, the configuration speed is slow because of the serial configuration method. To resolve these problems, we proposed MPLD as a new Programmable Logic Device (PLD) architecture which introduce MLUT instead of the conventional LUT. In MPLD each MLUT can be used as a combination logic, memory and switch matrix, on the demand of the mapped circuit. The merits of MPLD are the following. 1) MPLD can behave as both the reconfigurable device and the conventional parallel memory. 2) Implementing cost of MPLD is cheaper than the conventional FPGAs, because MPLD does not need switch matrixes as the conventional FPGA does. 3) The configuration speed is fast and partial configuration is easy because configuration method of MPLD is same as write access of the conventional parallel memory. In this paper, we present the MPLD architecture and its evaluation results of the prototype MPLD chip.

Objective Acute mechanical thrombectomy (AMT) in patients with acute ischemic stroke from large vessel occlusion (LVO) is performed without directly identifying the occluded vessels. In this study, we evaluated whether 1.5 T magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) with 3D-fast imaging employing steady-state acquisition (FIESTA) could visualize the occluded intracranial middle cerebral artery (MCA) and internal carotid artery (ICA) before AMT. Methods This retrospective study included 21 consecutive patients who underwent time-of-flight magnetic resonance angiography (TOF MRA) and 3D-FIESTA MRI immediately before AMT. The patients also underwent TOF MRA after AMT and achieved TICI 2b or 3 by AMT at our hospital between February 2018 and April 2019. When LVO in the anterior circulation was detected by TOF MRA, 3D-FIESTA MRI was additionally performed. Then, the occluded intracranial MCA and ICA, including their branches, were constructed on the workstation with volume rendering. The obtained images were fused with the TOF MRA images to create combined 3D images. Results The length and top-to-bottom distance of the affected M1 segment (calculated by the ipsilateral-to-contralateral ratio) were 1.29 and 1.17, respectively, on 3D-FIESTA MRI before AMT and 1.34 and 1.24, respectively, on TOF MRA after AMT. We assessed the number of M2 segments branching from the affected M1/M2 junction and visualized the affected anterior temporal artery. The 3D-FIESTA MRI before AMT and TOF MRA after AMT were consistent in all patients, except for two who moved vigorously during imaging. Conclusions Images acquired by 1.5T 3D-FIESTA MRI can visualize to predict the existing path of the occluded MCA and ICA before AMT in patients with LVO of the anterior circulation.
Perception of Finger Angle Position in Grip-type Haptic Display based on Grasping Force

In this study, we propose a novel grip-type haptic display for controlling a virtual (or robotic) hand (Fig. 1). This grip-type haptic display enables us to control a virtual hand and perceive haptic information based on a reactive force and a spatially distributed tactile feedback. Because this proposed display does not need any actuators to produce the reactive force, a simple haptic display is developed. In a grip-type haptic display, it is difficult to perceive the finger position because of the fixed position of the user’ fingers. However, we consider that it is possible to perceive the finger position by means of the effort exerted. Therefore, we performed an experiment to discriminate the applied force and confirm that the force discrimination threshold was sufficiently small. Then, we constructed a one-fingered prototype using an electrotactile display. Using this prototype, we qualitatively confirmed that the reactive force with the spatially distributed tactile feedback can produce dynamically changing haptic information.

Objective: The antitumor effects of anti-PD-1 antibody against mismatch repair deficiency (MMR-D)-associated cancers have been reported. MMR-D is found in approximately20%–30% of endometrial carcinomas (ECs) and frequently occurs due to promoter hypermethylation ( -PHM). ECs with -PHM are classified according to the molecular screening of Lynch syndrome (LS), but few detailed reports are available. The purpose of this study was to clarify the clinical features of EC with -PHM. Methods: Immunohistochemistry of MMR proteins (MLH1, MSH2, MSH6, and PMS2) was performed on specimens from 527 ECs treated at our university hospital from 2003 to 2018. methylation analysis was added to cases with MLH1/PMS2 loss. ECs were classified as follows: cases that retained MMR proteins as “MMR-proficient;” cases with MLH1/PMS2 loss and -PHM as “met-EC;” and cases with other MMR protein loss and MLH1/PMS2 loss without -PHM as “suspected-LS.” The clinical features, including long-term prognosis, of each group, were analyzed. Results: Accordingly, 419 (79.5%), 65 (12.3%), and 43 (8.2%) cases were categorized as “MMR-proficient,” “suspected-LS,” and “met-EC,” respectively. Significantly, “met-EC” had a lower proportion of grade 1 tumors (37.5%) and a higher proportion of stage III/IV tumors (37.2%) than the other groups. The overall and progression-free survival of “met-EC” were significantly worse than those of “suspected-LS” in all cases. Conclusion: In ECs with MMR-D, “met-ECs” were a subgroup with a poorer prognosis than “suspected-LS.” “Met-ECs” would be the main target for anti-PD-1 antibody treatment, and its clinical susceptibility should be verified individually.

BARLEYmax, a barley variety, and cocoapolyphenols (CPPs) have been reported to affect bacterialmetabolites in the colon. This study aimed to evaluate thecombined effects of BARLEYmax and CPPs supplementationon fecal microbiota in vitro using pig feces for 48 h. The relative abundances of the family Clostridiaceae andthe genus Clostridium and ammonia–nitrogen productionwere decreased by both BARLEYmax and CPP supplementation,and there was a positive correlation betweentheir abundances and the ammonia–nitrogen concentration. Although acetate and n-butyrate production was decreasedby CPP supplementation, their concentrations were maintainedat a higher level in the BARLEYmax ? CPP groupthan in the cellulose (control) and cellulose ? CPP groups. Therefore, this study demonstrated that a combination ofBARLEYmax and CPPs may be beneficial in maintaininghigher short-chain fatty acid production and the eliminationof potentially harmful factors.
