This paper presents the results of an experimental study of wave run-ups on a semi-submersible offshore structure. A series of model tests with a 1:80 scale ratio were carried out in the two-dimensional wave basin of MOERI/KIOST. The experimental model had two columns and one pontoon. The model was fixed and wave elevations were measured at five points per column. Two different draft (operational & survival) conditions and three wave heights were considered under regular wave conditions. First, the nonlinear characteristics of wave run-ups are discussed by using the time series data. Then, the wave heights are compared with numerical results based on the potential flow model. The comparison shows fairly good correlation between the experiments and computations. Finally, wave run-ups under the operational and survival conditions are suggested.

<P>High-performance organic semiconductors based on an electron-rich alkylsilylethynyl benzodithiophene (TIPSBDT) core were newly synthesized and characterized for use in solution-processed small-molecule organic solar cells. The rigid and extended π-conjugation of the TIPSBDT motifs facilitates intramolecular charge transfer and intermolecular π–π packing interactions of semiconducting small molecules in the BHJ film enhanced by processing additives and induces deep HOMO levels producing high open-circuit voltage of ∼1.0 V, exhibiting notable power conversion efficiency of 5.84% from a bulk-heterojunction film with PC<SUB>61</SUB>BM.</P><P><B>Graphic Abstract</B> <IMG SRC='http://pubs.acs.org/appl/literatum/publisher/achs/journals/content/cmatex/2014/cmatex.2014.26.issue-7/cm5004092/production/images/medium/cm-2014-004092_0007.gif'></P><P><A href='http://pubs.acs.org/doi/suppl/10.1021/cm5004092'>ACS Electronic Supporting Info</A></P>
Anthropometric Mismatch Investigation on Washing Machines for Wheelchair Users

More than 200 million people encounter significant difficulties in performing daily activities. Large portion of those people are disabled population due to spinal cord injuries, and, despite the high number, there has been inadequate amount of research using anthropometric measurements to provide accessible design for pursuing simple daily activities. The purpose of this research is to provide a design guideline on washing machine for the people on a wheelchair. This study observes the anthropometric dimensions of people on a wheelchair to identify accessible measurements for designing washing machine. Mismatch equation is used not only to discover the accommodation levels of selected washing machines in the market and to find out the design strategies of washing machines.

<P>This study systematically demonstrates the effects of the grain structure of crystalline self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) on the growth of organic semiconductor thin films on such monolayers, as well as the electrical characteristics of the resulting semiconductor films. The grain structure of the octadecyltrichlorosilane (OTS) monolayers could be tailored by constructing the monolayers at three different temperatures: -30 degrees C (-30 degrees C OTS), -5 degrees C (-5 degrees C OTS), and 20 degrees C (20 degrees C OTS). Among the three layers, -30 degrees C OTS exhibited the largest crystalline grains and longest-range homogeneity of alkyl chain arrays. We found that pentacene films deposited on -30 degrees C OTS monolayers show larger crystalline grains with higher degrees of crystallinity and lateral alignment compared to that of films deposited on -5 degrees C OTS or 20 degrees C OTS monolayers, following the surface characteristics of the underlying OTS monolayers. Furthermore, pentacene field-effect transistors fabricated with 30 degrees C OTS monolayers showed lower charge trap densities and higher field-effect mobility values than devices fabricated using 5 or 20 degrees C OTS monolayers. These results are explained in terms of enhanced quasi-epitaxial growth of pentacene films on OTS monolayers with large grains.</P>

Objectives Isolated Transverse Process Fracture(ITPF) is a rare traumatic spinal disease that has been fractured in transverse process alone in vertebra. This study reports the effectiveness of Korean medicine treatment in ITPF patient. Methods The patient was treated with acupuncture, pharmacopuncture and herbal medicine for 28 days. EuroQol-5 dimension index(EQ-5D), Numerical rating scale(NRS), Oswestry disability index(ODI), lumbar Range of motion(ROM) were used for assessment. Results After treatment, NRS for low back pain decreased from 5 to 2. EQ-5D improved from 0.215 to 0.76, ODI from 82 to 31.11 and lumbar ROM also improved. Conclusions This case shows that Korean medicine treatment can be considered as effective treatment for ITPF.

Objectives We aimed to examine whether mindfulness skills are mediating the improvements of depressive symptoms in patients with mood disorders who practiced Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT). Methods A total of 19 patients with mood disorder were included in this study. The participants were divided into two subgroups: a normal to mild depression group and a moderate depression group. The participants completed questionnaires to assess depressive symptoms, anxiety, quality of life, suicidal idea, and mindfulness skills which were measured by the Five Facets of Mindfulness Questionnaire (FFMQ) before and after MBCT course. Results The moderate depression group showed improvements through MBCT in depressive symptoms and suicidal idea, but not in anxiety and quality of life. The normal to mild depression group showed no significant change through MBCT. The improvement of depressive symptoms in the moderate depression group was predictable by improvements of the five facets of mindfulness, especially by 'observe' and 'non-react' components. Conclusions This study showed that currently depressive patients with moderate severity but not with normal to mild severity benefit from MBCT in reducing depressive symptoms and suicidal idea. The improvement of depressive symptoms was mediated by improved mindfulness skills through MBCT.

<P>Research into printing techniques has received special attention for the commercialization of cost-efficient organic electronics. Here, we have developed a capillary pen printing technique to realize a large-area pattern array of organic transistors and systematically investigated self-organization behavior of printed soluble organic semiconductor ink. The capillary pen-printed deposits of organic semiconductor, 6,13-bis(triisopropylsilylethynyl) pentacene (TIPS_PEN), was well-optimized in terms of morphological and microstructural properties by using ink with mixed solvents of chlorobenzene (CB) and 1,2-dichlorobenzene (DCB). Especially, a 1:1 solvent ratio results in the best transistor performances. This result is attributed to the unique evaporation characteristics of the TIPS_PEN deposits where fast evaporation of CB induces a morphological evolution at the initial printed position, and the remaining DCB with slow evaporation rate offers a favorable crystal evolution at the pinned position. Finally, a large-area transistor array was facilely fabricated by drawing organic electrodes and active layers with a versatile capillary pen. Our approach provides an efficient printing technique for fabricating large-area arrays of organic electronics and further suggests a methodology to enhance their performances by microstructural control of the printed organic semiconducting deposits.</P><P><B>Graphic Abstract</B> <IMG SRC='http://pubs.acs.org/appl/literatum/publisher/achs/journals/content/aamick/2013/aamick.2013.5.issue-16/am401698c/production/images/medium/am-2013-01698c_0010.gif'></P>

OSC(Off-Site Construction) is regarded as a faster and more economical method in the construction industry, and the attention towards the OSC is growing. In the modular construction process, which is one type of OSC, accurate identification of a module is essential. Because the installation position and the MEP(Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing) composition are distinct between modules, a defect in the finishing or junction area is likely to happen during the construction process. This study suggested the modular construction process by applying a beacon receiver using BLE(Bluetooth Low Energy) technology on each module. Construction quality management would be improved using the location and assembly data, particularly for a different module in modular construction.
