        Naphthoimidazolium based ratiometric fluorescent probes for F<sup>−</sup> and CN<sup>−</sup>, and anion-activated CO<sub>2</sub> sensing

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>The results of the current study show that fluoride and cyanide recognition by two naphthoimidazolium derivatives can be applied to CO<SUB>2</SUB> sensing. Among various anions, only fluoride and cyanide promote changes in absorption and fluorescence wavelegnth maxima of the naphthoimidazolium derivative in CH<SUB>3</SUB>CN. The changes are attributed to (C–H)<SUP>+</SUP>--anion<SUP>-</SUP> ionic hydrogen bonding interactions between the conjugated imidazolium salts and these anions. Especially important is the observations that the fluorescence emission maxima of the naphthoimidazolium derivative at 465 nm undergo hysochromic shifts to 375 nm upon addition of fluoride and cyanide exclusively. The naphthoimidazolium derivatives undergo highly selective changes in their fluoerecence maximum from 465 nm to 375 nm upon addition of CN<SUP>−</SUP> even when 2% water is present in the CH<SUB>3</SUB>CN solution. Moreover, exposure of the solution of CN<SUP>−</SUP> activated naphthoimidazolium derivative to CO<SUB>2</SUB> promotes a red shift of emission maximum back to 465 nm. The results demonstrate that the naphthoimidazolium derivatives can be utilized for anion activated ratiometric sensing of CO<SUB>2</SUB>.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> The probe <B>1</B> and <B>2</B> display selective and ratiometric fluorescence changes upon addition of F<SUP>−</SUP> and CN<SUP>−</SUP>. </LI> <LI> Naphthoimidazoliums of <B>1</B> and <B>2</B> can play dual roles as fluorophores and ionic hydrogen bonding donors. </LI> <LI> Anion-activated ratiometric sensing of CO<SUB>2</SUB> is demonstrated. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>

        Visions and the Use of a Community Information and Communication Technology (ICT): Assessing the Effectiveness of the Delivery of Community Network Services

        This study investigated the use of community information and communication technologies in light of its dual visions (i.e., serving as an affordable Internet service provider and a community building tool). Surveying the randomly selected users of a community network (n = 213), this study examined the influence of the community features on service use compared to that of Internet features. The present study found that the respondents were using the service mainly for general Internet features, such as email and web access. More than two-thirds of the respondents did not recognize community contents as available service. Community features of the service were found as significant predictors of use only among people who were aware of community contents but not among people who were not. Nonetheless, there was no difference in the amount of use between the two groups, indicating that the awareness of community contents itself did not increase use. Findings suggest that the service providers did not fully communicate the community aspect of the service with the users although the very aspect distinguishes the service from other Internet services.

        Construction Noise Prediction Model Based on Case-Based Reasoning in the Preconstruction Phase

        <P>Construction activities are associated with various noise-related issues, including health problems, cost overruns, and schedule delays. These issues could be averted by conducting comprehensive noise assessment and prediction during the preconstruction phase. Conventional approaches are inadequate because they focus on passive and defensive noise management initiated ex post facto. This paper presents a model that uses case-based reasoning to predict noise in the preconstruction phase. The model was validated by comparing the output of test cases and previous cases. The results show the output of the retrieved cases to be close to that of the test case, with correlation coefficient analysis indicating a high correlation between the actual and predicted outcomes. The model suggests practical alternatives to improve current noise management and converts the paradigm of construction noise management from ex post facto measures to preventive measures in the preconstruction phase.         윤리적 소비 경험에 대한 현상학적 고찰: 생태요소를 도입한 협동주택 구매자를 대상으로

        This is a study to understand the purchase experience of people who live in ecological cooperative housing by the qualitative method of phenomenological study. Three subjects were interviewed in order to explore experiences of ecological cooperative housing and the meaning of the ethical consumption to the subjects. The interviews took place during Aug. 3 to 10, 2013. Each interview took 60~90 minutes each, including the validation process of repeating each question and asking the subjects’ consent on their answers. The interviews were recorded by the mobile phone and transcribed with the computer word program. Repeated reading and extracting meaningful statements were done to develop themes on the subjects experiences of ethical consumption by the Colaizzi s method of the phenomenological study. The themes are: happy experiences, daily pleasures, convenience, feelings of communication, feelings of growth and development, feelings of consolation and healing, feelings of being eco-friendly, feelings of being respected, feelings of sharing, and feelings of being restricted. The limitation of this study is that there was only a small number of subjects. Is is suggested to repeat the study with more subjects. 본 연구는 생태요소를 도입한 협동주택 구매자를 대상으로 윤리적 소비 경험에 대한 현상학적 고찰이다. 서울 마포구 성산동 인근 성미산 주변에서 자생한 성미산 마을 안에 있는 협동주택 소행주(소통이 있어 행복한 주택) 1호 거주 자를 대상으로 접촉 가능한 거주자, 세 명을 심층 면접하였다. 협동주택에 거주 하는 것은 협동주택을 어떤 형태로든 구매한 것이고, 협동주택을 구매한 것은 윤리적 소비를 경험한 것이기 때문에 연구대상으로 삼았다. 협동마을 거주자가 경험한 윤리적 소비와 심리적 경험에 대한 연구문제의 현상학적 탐구를 위해 실시한 심층 면접은 녹음하였고, 녹음을 전사(transcript)한 뒤에, 반복하여 읽으 면서 의미있는 자료를 도출하고, 의미 있는 자료를 동일 의미 군으로 묶어 범주 화하는 콜라이찌(Paul Colaizzi)의 방법으로 분석하였다. 그 결과 10개 범주를 도출하였는데, 이들 범주는 행복한 경험, 일상의 즐거움, 편리함, 소통의 느낌, 성장하고 발전하는 느낌, 위안/치유의 느낌, 자연과 친한 느낌, 존중받는 느낌, 나눔의 느낌 그리고 구속의 느낌이었다. 본 연구는 지금까지 시도되지 않은 윤리적 소비에 대한 경험을 생태요소를 도입한 협동주택 구매자를 대상으로 현상 학적으로 고찰한 결과, 10가지 범주를 도출한데 의의가 있다. 대상자 접촉의 어려움으로 인하여 연구 대상자가 3명으로 제한된 것은 연구의 제한점으로 남는 다. 또한 타당화 과정을 2, 3회기의 면접에서 확보하려고 하였으나 참여자들이 현실적 어려움을 토로하여, 1회기를 하는 대신 면접시간을 길게 하여 각 피면접자에게 구술 내용에 대해 면접자가 요약정리하고, 동의 및 부연설명의 과정 으로 대신하였다. 본 연구에서도 연구 참가자들의 살아있는 생생한 경험과 그의미를 도출해 낼 수 있었으나 한 건물로 이루어진 협동주택의 거주자를 대상 으로 삼았기 때문에 앞으로는 다른 협동주택의 거주자를 대상으로 다양성을 확보하여 반복 연구를 제안한다.

        Molecular dynamics and inverse micromechanical study of thermoelastic properties of epoxy/POSS nanocomposites

        A molecular dynamics simulation study was conducted to identify the contributions of polyoligosilsesquioxane (POSS) nanoparticles to the thermoelastic behaviors of cross-linked epoxy nanocomposites. POSS nanoparticles functionalized using pre-cured epoxy were first embedded in an epoxy matrix and the resulting nanocomposites were then cured to a conversion ratio of 87 %. According to the volume fraction of the functionalized POSS nanoparticles, the stress-strain curves, coefficients of thermal expansion (CTEs), and glass transition temperatures of the nanocomposites were determined using a classical molecular potential model. Based on the efficient interfacial load transfer through the epoxy-functionalized structures at the interfaces between the POSS particles and epoxy matrices, the Young’s moduli and volumetric CTEs of the nanocomposites were effectively improved. Additionally, no clear reinforcing effects of the POSS nanoparticles were observed in the glass transition behaviors. Using the multi-inclusion model, the thermoelastic properties of effective POSS nanoparticle were determined from inverse micromechanical method.

        Metabolomics approach for the discrimination of raw and steamed Gastrodia elata using liquid chromatography quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry

        A liquid chromatography quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry-based metabolomics approach was applied to metabolite profiling of Gastrodia elata in order to identify raw and steamed G. elata and explore potential biornarkers for each processing state. A statistical classification method, significant analysis of microarrays, was used to select influential metabolites from the different forms. Through metabolite selection, several potential biomarkers were determined and assigned by matching mass information with that of reference compounds or by comparing it with data in the literature. Furthermore, the developed method was cross-checked using two validation procedures. The first validation was performed simultaneously with the metabolite profiling of G. elata using all detected metabolites, and the second was performed after the metabolite profiling using representative standard compounds of G. elata. Overall, this study can be applied to quality assurance of G. elata. (C) 2014 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

      • 텍스트 마이닝을 활용한 COVID-19에 대한 대중의 관심 주제와 정서 분석

        Objectives: Public health risks and anxiety have been increasing since the outbreak of Coronavirus disease 19 (COVID-19). The public expresses questions related to the COVID-19 issue through the web base. The aim of this study was to analyze public perception and sentiments of COVID-19 Pandemic in South Korea. Methods: We collected the text data (questions: 252,181) related to COVID-19 from Naver Knowledge-iN during January 1, 2020 to December 31, 2020. The search keywords included related to COVID-19 using Korean words for “SARS-Cov-2”, “COVID19”, “COVID-19”, “Wuhan pneumonia”, “Coronavirus”, “Corona”. A topic modeling analysis was used to investigate and search trends of public perception. The sentiment analysis was conducted to analyze of public emotions in the questions related to COVID-19. We performed the Pearson’s correlation analysis between daily number of COVID-19 cases and daily proportion of negative sentiment in documents related to COVID-19 by COVID-19 outbreak period. Results: A total of 241,776 documents used in this study. The most frequent words in the documents to appear cough, symptoms, tests, confirmed patients, mask and etc. Twenty topics (COVID-test, Economy, School, Hospital/Diagnose, Travel/Overseas, Health, Social issue, Symptom 1 (respiratory), Relationships, Symptom 2 (e.g., fever), Workplace, Mask/Social distancing, infection/Vaccine, Stimulus Package, Family, Delivery Service, Unclassified, Region, Study/Exam, Worry, Anxiety) were extracted using the topic modeling. There was a positive association between the daily counts of COVID-19 patients and proportion of negative sentiment. By COVID-19 period, Stage 4 had the highest correlation. Conclusion: This study identified the South Korean public’s interest and emotions about COVID-19 during the prolonged pandemic crisis.

        Art Therapy in Patients with Terminal Cancer and Their Families: A Multiple Case Study

        Purpose: The study explored the meaning of experiences within a family art therapy process among terminal cancer patients and their families. Methods: Ten participants, including four terminal cancer patients currently admitted to the hospice ward at an inpatient hospice facility in S City and four caregiving family members, engaged in four cycles of family art therapy sessions. The sessions were conducted weekly or bi-weekly, and each lasted approximately 50 minutes. Results: Nine cross-case themes emerged: “feeling unfamiliar and intimidated by the idea of expressing my thoughts through art,” “trying to accept the present and positively overcome sadness,” “expressing hope through emotional bonds during the process of parting,” “conveying and preserving personal and family beliefs,” “feeling upset about family imbalances caused by deteriorating health,” “valuing togetherness and striving for stability amidst the current challenges,” “art as a medium of empowerment for patients and facilitator of family conversations, even amidst difficulties,” “sharing a range of emotions—not just joy, but concerns and sorrow—through art,” and “gratitude for art’ s role in improving family communication and connection through artwork. Conclusion: The findings of this study lead to several conclusions. First, patients and their families faced psychological challenges when confronted with impending death, yet they strove to remain optimistic by seeking meaning in their struggles. Second, families practiced open and expressive communication, sharing a spectrum of complex emotions with one another. Third, even as the patient’s condition worsened, resulting in family fatigue, their support and cohesion strengthened.
