<P>Erythropoietin is a therapeutic glycoprotein that stimulates red blood cell production. The quality, safety and potency of recombinant erythropoietins are determined largely by their glycosylation. Small variations in cell culture conditions can significantly affect the glycosylation, and therefore the efficacy, of recombinant erythropoietins. Thus, detailed glycomic analyses are necessary to assess biotherapeutic quality. We have developed a platform for qualitative and quantitative glycomic analysis of recombinant erythropoietins.</P>

Leaching experiments of bone-meal phosphorus (P) solubilization by the sulfur-oxidizing bacteria Acidithiobacillus thiooxidans was carried out using the shake-flask methodology. The effects of bone meal dosage, bio-sulfur (bio-S) concentration, and amount of bacterial inoculum on the efficiency of P solubilization were determined. The bone meal was dissolved in bacterially produced sulfuric acid to form “soluble P.” An increase in concentration of bio-S as an energy substrate for the acidophilic A. thiooxidans increased the P solubilization efficiency. Upon addition of 5% bio-S, 10% bone meal, and 10% A. thiooxidans to the leach suspension, its pH dropped from 5.22 to 1.92 between days 30 and 40 of the leaching experiment; this resulted in an increase in water-soluble P concentration by 23.8 g P2O5 L<SUP>-1</SUP>. The soluble P concentration in the suspension from the bioleaching experiment was >20 times higher than that in conventional liquid bone-meal fertilizers. Inorganic nutrients, such as N, Ca, and Mg, were also solubilized in the suspension during the bioleaching experiment. The role of bio-S as an energy substrate for acidophilic bacteria to leach P from bone meal during formulation of biofertilizers could potentially be exploited in the management of crop nutrients in organic farming.

KSLV-I 나로호는 대한민국 최초의 위성발사체로 러시아와 공동개발 되었다. 2009년 8월에 이루어진 1차 발사는 위성을 궤도로 올리려는 목표 달성에는 실패하였지만 발사를 안전 관점에서 보았을 때는 사고 없이 안전하게 이루어졌다. 2010년 6월의 2차 발사에서도 인명이나 시설 손상과 같은 사고는 없었다. 이러한 안전한 발사를 이루기 위하여 우주발사체 사업단은 흐루니체프사와의 협력을 통해 발사체 안전 프로그램을 개발한 바 있다. 본 논문에서는 안전 관리 프로그램에 속해있는 각종 분석들과 그 내용들을 소개하고자 한다. KSLV-I, a.k.a. Naro is the 1st Korean satellite launch vehicle, which was launched at Naro space center by Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI) in AUG. 2009, and JUN. 2010. Although the missions of 1st and 2nd launch of KSLV-I - inject the space craft into the designated orbit - were not successful, safety of launch vehicle was accomplished through the cooperation with the Russian partner Khrunichev Space Research and Production Center (KhSC). Both parties co-developed the safety management program to ensure launch safety. In this paper, the analysis and contents of safety program are illustrated.

Background: The combined use of small endoscopic sphincterotomy (EST) followed by endoscopic papillary large balloon dilation (EPLBD) might be associated with a lower incidence of procedure-related complications such as pancreatitis, bleeding or perforation, compared to the use of EPLBD or a large EST alone. The aim of this retrospective study was to evaluate the utility of a combined EST and EPLBD method for the removal of common bile duct (CBD) stones that could not be extracted by use of an EST and conventional techniques. Methods: Between March 2005 and September 2006, a total of 35 patients with CBD stones were enrolled. Fourteen patients had received a previous EST, and 21 patients underwent an EST. The sphincterotomy site was then dilated with a 12~18 mm diameter balloon. Results: The average number of stones was 3.6±2.9 (range: 110). The average maximum stone diameter was 26.11±8.88 mm (range: 12~50 mm). Complete stone removal was accomplished in 31 patients (88.6%). In 9 patients (25.7%), a mechanical lithotripsy was required. No episode of true pancreatitis occurred. A procedure-related perforation occurred in one patient (2.8%) and the patient was treated with NPO and antibiotics. No procedure-related bleeding or mortality was observed. The procedure was performed safely in 9 patients (25.7%) with a periampullary diverticulum and in 14 patients (40.0%) with a previous EST. Conclusions: Combined EST and EPLBD may be a safe and effective method, and may be a good alternative treatment for removing CBD stones that cannot be extracted by an EST and conventional techniques. However, prospective studies based on a large number of patients are needed.(Korean J Med 73:474-480, 2007)

Since the definition of pH, $pH=-Ioga_H$ is based on a single ion activity, pH values can not be determined with measurement itself, but require an approximation method. They are derived from EMF measurement of a liquid junction free cell using hydrogen and Ag/AgCl electrodes. Primary standard materials with certified pH values can be obtained with this approximation method. Standard buffer solutions are used to calibrate pH meters. Thus the accuracy of the pH values of standard buffer solutions limits the reliability of measured pH values can be obtained with this approximation method. To certify the pH values, we have established the system for the primary standard measurement and certified the pH of buffer solutions in the range of 1.6∼12.5 pH unit within uncertainty of ${\pm}0.005$ pH unit. $pH=-loga_H$ 정의에서 pH는 단일 이온의 활동도항을 포함하므로 단지 측정의 방법만으로는 결정되어질 수 없고 근사법을 필요로 한다. 근사법에 의한 pH 측정은 수소전극과 은/염화은 전극을 사용한 액간 접촉이 없는 cell의 기전력 측정으로부터 이루어지는 방법이며, 이 과정을 통해 pH 값이 인증된 pH의 일차 표준 물질을 얻을 수 있다. 일반적인 pH 미터와 전극을 검정하는 데에는 인증된 pH 값을 가지는 표준 완충용액을 사용하므로 표준 완충용액의 pH 값 정혹도는 실제 측정된 pH 값의 실효성을 제한할 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 정확한 pH의 측정을 위해서 pH 값을 인증할 수 있는 시스템을 구축하기 위한 제반의 연구를 수행하였으며, 이를 토대로 pH 1.6∼12.5의 범위에 해당하는 완충용액의 pH를 0.005 pH 단위 이내의 불확도로 인증하였다.
