Changing trends in colorectal cancer in the Republic of Korea:

Colorectal cancer has a high worldwide incidence. Japan, a country that is geographically and culturally similar to the Republic of Korea (here after Korea), has recently reported a decreasing trend in the incidence of colorectal cancer. However, Korea had the highest incidence of colorectal cancer among Asian countries in 2012. Our aim was to observe the changing trends in incidence and mortality of colorectal cancer in Korea and to compare them to those in Japan. Incidence data were collected from the Korean Central Cancer Registry and mortality data were collected from Korean Statistical Information Service. Incidence and mortality data on colorectal cancer in Japan were acquired from the National Cancer Center in Japan. Age-standardized incidence and mortality rates were determined based on Segi’s world population. Screening data from both countries were collected from the national cancer center in each country. In Korea, the age-standardized incidence rate of colorectal cancer in both sexes was 20.9 to 38.0 per 100,000 from 1999 to 2012 and the rate in males increased more dramatically than in females. In addition, the increase between 2002 and 2012 was first observed in the age group over 40. In Japan, the incidence of colorectal cancer has been more constant over recent years than in Korea. The age-standardized mortality rate of colorectal cancer in both sexes in Korea was 8.5 to 9.3 per 100,000 from 2000 to 2013, and the trend in mortality was constant during this period. In Japan, the mortality rate decreased slightly during the same period. Crude screening rates were increased overall in both Korea and Japan during the period studied. Since the incidence of colorectal cancer has increased in Korea, the control of this cancer is an important public health issue. As Japan has achieved a reduction in colorectal cancer, adjustment of Korea’s current systems for screening and treatment of colorectal cancer according to those of Japan may contribute to improved colorectal cancer control in Korea.
이브 탕기(Yves Tanguy) 회화의 생태학적 이미지 연구

1919년 제 1차 세계대전 직후 무의식과 잠재의식의 환상적 세계를 추구하는 초현실주의가 등장하면서 인간 내면에 감추어진 잠재적 힘과 본래의 모습을 되찾고자 하는 문제가 제기되었다. 이러한 초현실주의의 원칙에 입각해 그 내면을 가장 돋보이게 한 화가로 프랑스 태생의 미국 초현실주의자인 이브 탕기(Raymind Grges Yves Tanguy, 1900~1955)가 있다. 초현실주의가 이성의 여과작용 없이 인간 내면의 잠재적 힘을 되찾고자 했다면, 이브 탕기는 그의 예술에서 이성이라는 억제작용을 물리치고 무한한 잠재적 힘을 되찾아 끝없이 환상적인 세계로의 탐색을 하고자 했으며, 그는 초현실주의 문제에 대한 완전한 극복을 추구했다. 현실적인 실존보다는 오히려 실존의 흔적을 추구했고, 예술과 자연 사이에 관계를 재구성하고자 한 것이다. 이브 탕기의 회화는 자신의 지난 경험들에서 비롯되는데 어린 시절에 체험한 넓은 고원과 바위가 많은 해안가, 바다 속의 풍경 같은 이미지들이 그의 내면에 잠재적 풍토를 조성하고, 후에 그의 회화에서 독자적인 생태학적 이미지로 변형되어 환상적 세계를 이루게 된다. 본 논문은 이러한 이브 탕기 회화의 생태학적 이미지를 제 1기의 유기질의 생물체적 이미지와 제 2기의 무기질의 광물체적 이미지로 나누어 분석함으로써 이브 탕기 회화의 독자적인 특성에 대해 고찰했다. 이브 회화의 초기는 가볍고 단순한 형태의 이미지들이 공중에 부유하며 떠다니는 유동적이고 환상적인 장면이 주로 등장하는데, 이러한 유기질의 생물체적 이미지들이 점차 기하학적인 단순성으로 정리되면서 후기에 그의 대표적 예술세계라 할 수 있는 무기질적인 독특한 광물체적 이미지의 세계를 구축하게 된다. 이브 탕기의 무의식 속에 있는 잠재적 요소들의 충동에 의해 이루어진 특유의 주관적이고 독창적인 이미지들은 매우 낯설고 기묘한 형체들로 인해 그것들이 줄 수 있는 신비하고 독특한 느낌의 독자성을 갖는다. 또한 감추어진 잠재적 힘과 환상적 세계의 탐색이라는 초현실주의의 원칙에 부합하고 있으며, 완전하게 이성의 지배에서 벗어난 무한한 무의식의 정신세계를 표출해 냈다고 할 수 있다. After the First World War in 1919, the emergence of surrealism, which pursued the fantasy world of the unconsciousness and subconsciousness, raising the issue of restoring the potential power and original image concealed in human beings. Based on the principle of surrealism, the painter who brought the most out of it was French - born American surrealist Raymind Grges Yves Tanguy (1900-1955). Surrealism was to regain the potential power of human beings without the filtering effect of reason, Yves Tanguy would overcome the suppression in his art and regain infinite potential power to seek endlessly into a fantastic world. He pursued complete overcoming the issue of surrealism and traces of existence ratter than realistic existence. He tried to reconstruct the relationship between art and nature. The paintings of Yves Tanggi originate from his past experiences, in which images such as wide plateaus, rocky beaches, and scenes in the sea that he experienced during his childhood create a potential climate within him, and later his ecological image transformed into a fantastic world. In this paper, we analyze the unique characteristics of Yve Tanggi painting by dividing the ecological image into the first organic biological image and the second mineral metal image. In the early days of his paintings, light and simple forms of images float in the air around, fluid and fantastic scenes often appear. These organic biological images gradually become geometrically simple, and in the latter days they establish a world of inorganic mineral metal images that can be described as his representative art world. The distinctive subjective and original images created by the impulses of the potential elements in his unconsciousness have a mysterious and unique sense of uniqueness that they can give due to their very strange and bizarre shapes. It corresponds with the potential powers and the surrealism principle of exploring the fantasy world, and expresses the unlimited unconscious spiritual world completely deviated from the domination of reason.

Seasonal and pandemic influenza viruses have threatened global health and caused tremendous economic damage. Inactivated influenza virus vaccines (IIV) only elicit a homologous hemagglutinin, which protect narrow spectrum of influenza virus strains. To overcome the limitation, broadly protecting influenza vaccines are needed utilizing a conserved region of antigen, and epitopes that can evoke immune responses with CD8 T lymphocytes(CTL).The live attenuated influenza virus vaccine (LAIV) with intranasal administration can elicit specific CTL and mucosal serum antibody which cross-protects a wide range of influenza viruses. Here we utilized the H3N8 equine influenza virus that has partially deleted NS gene, which infect into host only one round without pathogenicity. This live EIV vaccine inoculated nasally elicits more effective protection than inactivated EIV vaccine with intramuscular injection, making promising candidate as EIV live attenuated vaccine.
