The effect of vanadia loading on the acidic and redox properties of VOx/TiO2 catalyst and their role in thesimultaneous reduction of NO with NH3 and oxidation of o-DCB is studied. Catalyst samples withdifferent proportions of VOx species, ranging from monomerics to V2O5 octahedral crystals have beenprepared. A relationship between VOx species and their acidic and redox properties was found. At lowtemperature, o-DCB is adsorbed mainly on Lewis sites, associated to monomeric species, but at hightemperature, o-DCB and NH3 compete for Brønsted sites associated to polymeric species.

In this study, we illustrate a summary of a study case in which mice, a hollow fiber system, and tobacco transgenic plants were assessed for the production of mAb for vaccine manufacturing and vaccine production. Early Effect of 0.005% Estriol Vaginal Gel on Symptoms and Signs of Vulvovaginal Atrophy

Objectives: This study aims to assess the effect of ultralow dose 0.005% estriol vaginal gel in women with genitourinary syndrome of menopause (GSM).Methods: In this prospective and multicenter single-arm study, efficacy was assessed by the evaluation of the epithelial maturation value (MV), vaginal pH, symptoms and signs of vulvovaginal atrophy. Tolerability, acceptability, and the effect on intimate relationships were also evaluated.Results: We included 35 postmenopausal women with moderate-to-severe vaginal dryness. The most bothering symptom reported was vaginal dryness. The mean increase in the MV after 7 and 14 days of treatment were 22.1 (P < 0.001) and 39.9 (P < 0.001) points, with an increase in the superficial cells of 17.7 percentage points (pp) (95% confidence interval [CI], 7.9–27.4; P < 0.001) and 41.4 pp (95% CI, 28.2–54.6; P < 0.001) observed at the timepoints. Additionally, the pH decreased by 0.6 ± 0.7 (mean ± SD) at 7 days (P < 0.0001) and by 1.1 ± 0.8 at 14 days (P < 0.0001) from a baseline mean value of 6.3 ± 0.8. The severity of vaginal dryness (range, 0 [none] to 3 [severe]) was significantly reduced by a mean of 1.4 points (P < 0.0001) at 7 days and 2 points (P < 0.0001) at 14 days. Conclusions: Ultralow dose 0.005% estriol vaginal gel produced a rapid improvement of most relevant symptoms and signs of GSM. This clinically meaningful response was observed from the initial days of treatment, confirming a fast onset and a progressive action.

Cerebral ischemic complications after pituitary surgery are not frequently reported. Multiple mechanisms have been proposed, including vasospasm, and delayed cerebral ischemia resulting from postoperative subarachnoid bleeding. Given the unknown etiology of vasospasm following these situations, little is known about its prevention. Through a case report and bibliographic review, the authors warn about the importance of recognizing key signs postoperatively that could indicate increased risk for cerebral vasospasm and must be recognized in a timely manner, with appropriate treatment strategies implemented once these symptoms present.

Hibiscus sabdariffa L. (Hs) calyxes, rich in organic acids, are included in diets in different countries. In recent years, some phytochemicals have been shown to reduce bacterial virulence at sublethal concentrations by interfering with quorum sensing (QS) systems. Therefore, in this study the antivirulence properties of Hs calyxes and two γ-lactones (hibiscus acid [HA] and its methyl ester) in Pseudomonas aeruginosa were analyzed. Acetone and methanol extracts of Hs showed anti-QS activity by inhibiting violacein production (60% to 80% with 250 μg/mL). In molecular docking analysis, the γ-lactones registered a good binding score, which suggests strong interaction with the active site of LasR protein. To verify their effect in vitro, they were isolated from Hs and evaluated in six QS-regulated phenotypes, as well as in ExoU toxin that is released by the type III secretion system (T3SS). At 500 μg/mL they reduced alkaline protease (29–52%) and elastase (15–37%) activity, biofilm formation (∼75%), and swarming (50%), but there was no effect on pyocyanin production, hemolytic activity, or type III secretion. In a mouse abscess/necrosis model, HA at sublethal concentrations (15 and 31.2 μg/mL) affected infection establishment and prevented damage and systemic spread. In conclusion, HA is the first molecule identified with antivirulence properties in Hs with the potential to prevent infections caused by P. aeruginosa.

<P>We report on the temperature dependencies of the Mössbauer spectra and the AC magnetic susceptibility measured in Cu-rich, FeMnCu samples prepared by mechanically alloying, using, on the one side, Cu and prealloyed FeMn powders and, on the other, pure element Cu, Mn, and Fe powders. From the correlation of the Mössbauer and susceptibility data we conclude about the basic characteristics of the phase distributions present in the different studied samples. Those distributions are a consequence of both the nanostructure induced upon milling and of the different signs of the Mn/Cu (negative) and Fe/Cu (positive) enthalpies of mixing. The proposed phase distributions are significantly different in the samples prepared from different precursors and this fact is analyzed in terms of the disproportion of the precursor FeMn alloy and in those of the favoured Mn/Cu interdiffusion and the hindered Fe/Cu one.</P>
