Selective cytotoxic Effects of Non-thermal Biocompatible Plasma Treated Liquid on Ovarian Cancer

The results of our study shows that PTL significantly exhibits cytotoxicity, induce cell cycle arrest and apoptosis pathway against SKOV3 cells which are resistant to chemotherapy. In addition, we examined the effect of reactive oxygen and nitrogen species (RONS) in the cells where H<sub>2</sub>O<sub>2</sub> and NO derivatives play the role in the apoptotic pathway. In general, our result suggest that cylinder DBD Plasma treated liquid may be a competent therapeutic alternate for clinical study of ovarian cancer therapy.

In this study, zinc sulphide nanomaterial (ZnS NM) powders were prepared with the assistance of anatmospheric pressure soft jet plasma (APPJ) device. Regular approaches to ZnS preparation mainlyresulted in aggregated powders, thus plasma methods were investigated to obtain controlledmorphological structures. The APPJ plasma-assisted ZnS exhibited unique surface architectures, suchas nanorods, layers and spherical aggregates, that were controllably obtained by changing the reactantconcentration and type of precursor. The prepared ZnS showed good thermal stability by no changes in itscomposition up to 400 C. The APPJ plasma-assisted ZnS showed sphalerite and wurtzite crystalstructures and resulted in excellent chemical purity. The simple and handy APPJ plasma method showsgood potential for shape-controlled ZnS NMs preparation without addition of surfactant chemicals,mechanical stirring, external heating or any other tedious procedures. This capability showcases thescientific and technological merit of this technique. The prepared ZnS NMs were utilized as antibacterialagents and evaluated the activity using three techniques against the human pathogens of E. coli, S. aureusand K. pneumoniae. The ZnS NMs showed effective concentration and shape-dependent activity whenused as an antibacterial material.

<P> While surface sterilization can minimize the postharvest loss of fruits and vegetables, it depends on concentration, treatment duration, storage condition, and crops. This study was conducted to investigate the consequences of chlorine dioxide (ClO<SUB>2</SUB>) gas on post-harvest quality and shelf life of tomato fruits during the modified atmosphere packaging storage. Tomato fruits of light red maturity stage were harvested at Gangwon province in the Republic of Korea. Fruits were dipped in fungal suspension and, afterward, some of them were sterilized with NaOCl, while others were sterilized with ClO<SUB>2</SUB> gas. On the final storage day, the 5 ppm ClO<SUB>2</SUB> gas 12 hours treated tomato fruits showed the least carbon dioxide and ethylene, and the utmost oxygen concentration. The least fresh weight loss, prolonged shelf life and the most suppressed fungal incidence were obtained by the 5 ppm ClO<SUB>2</SUB> gas 12 hours treatment. As compared to other treatments, the 5 ppm ClO<SUB>2</SUB> gas 12 hours treatment yielded higher firmness, titratable acidity and vitamin C, and lower soluble solids. Therefore, the 5 ppm ClO<SUB>2</SUB> gas 12 hours treatment may be useful to prevent fungal incidence as well as to retain the postharvest quality and increase the shelf life of tomato fruits. </P>
Cherry Tomato Qualities Affected by Foliar Spraying with Boron and Calcium

This study was conducted to investigate the effects of foliar spraying with boron and calcium on the qualities of light red maturity-stage ‘Unicorn’ cherry tomato. Increased cell -wall compactness was observed after boron (B) + calcium (Ca) treatment. The respiration rate was lowest in B + Ca-treated tomato fruits at harvest time and after storage. Firmness increased and was retained during the storage period in B + Ca treated tomato fruits. The least fresh weight loss and best shelf life were observed in B + Ca-treated tomato fruits. The vitamin C content was higher in B + Ca-treated tomato fruits than in the control. These results indicate that B + Ca treatment increases cell -wall compactness, reduces the respiration rate, reduces fresh weight loss, increases shelf life, maintains flesh firmness, and increases vitamin C content in cherry tomato.

방울토마토의 수경재배 중 붕소+칼슘+규소 및 칼슘+규소의 복합 엽면시비가 수확 후 품질과 MAP 저장 중 저장성에 미치는 영향을 알아보고자 본 연구를 실시하였다. 엽면시비한 방울 토마토(‘Unicorn’)는 반숙과 상태에서 수확하여 산소투과성 필름으로 포장한 5℃, 11℃, 그리고 24℃에서 25일, 15일, 10일간 저장하였다. 붕소+칼슘+규소 복합처리한 방울토마토가 3가지 저장온도 모두에서 호흡과 에틸렌 발생이 억제되어 MAP 저장중 가장 낮은 생체중 감소와 가장 높은 외관상 품질을 보였다. 수확 후 조사한 방울토마토의 경도, 산도, 비타민 C 함량은 붕소+칼슘+규소 복합처리에서 가장 높았으며, 3가지 온도 모두에서 MAP 저장 후에도 모두 높게 유지되었다. 그러나 과피색, 라이코펜 함량과 당도는 수확 후에는 엽면시비 처리로 차이가 없었으나, 3가지 온도 모두 붕소+칼슘+규소 복합처리에서 가장 낮은 수치를 보였다. 이상의 결과로 볼 때 붕소+칼슘+규소 복합처리는 방울토마토의 수확후 생리 작용을 억제하고 경도, 산도, 비타민 C 함량을 높여 저장성을 향상시키는 것으로 판단되었다. This study was analyzed the effects of boron (B), calcium (Ca), silicon (Si) on quality and shelf life of ‘Unicorn’ cherry tomato at the light red maturity-stage. The storage conditions were modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) by oxygen transmission rate (OTR) packaging film at 5℃, 11℃, and 24℃. Respiration and ethylene production were the lowest in B + Ca + Si -treated tomato fruits. The lowest fresh weight loss and the longest shelf life resulted from the B + Ca + Si treatment. And the firmness was enhanced by B + Ca + Si treatment at harvest time, and it was retained after storage at 5oC, 11oC, and 24℃. Significantly lower soluble solids, lycopene, and color development were found at B + Ca + Si-treated tomato fruits compared with control after storage. Moreover, the highest titratable acidity and vitamin C content were observed in B + Ca + Si-treated tomato fruits after storage. From the above results, it was concluded that B + Ca + Si combined treatment can delay the maturity of cherry tomato after harvesting, and retained the firmness and prolong the shelf life.
