Theophylline derivatives have long been recognized as potent bronchodilators for the relief of acute asthma. Recently, it was found that bacterial infection has a role in asthma pathogenesis. The present work involves the design and synthesis of 8-substituted theophylline derivatives as bronchodilators and antibacterial agents. The chemical structures of these compounds were elucidated by IR, 1H-NMR, mass spectrometry, and elemental analyses. The bronchodilator activity was evaluated using acetylcholine-induced bronchospasm in guinea pigs, and most of the compounds showed significant anti-bronchoconstrictive activity in comparison with standard aminophylline. In addition, the antibacterial activity of all the target compounds was investigated in vitro against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria using ampicillin as a reference drug. Results showed that some of the tested compounds possessed significant antibacterial activity. A pharmacophore model was computed to obtain useful insight into the essential structural features of bronchodilator activity. A structure activity relationship was also discussed.

Methylxanthines especially theophylline have been recognized as potent bronchodilators for the relief of acute asthma for over 65 years. Recently, it was found that bacterial infection plays a role in asthma pathogenesis. Accordingly, the present work involves the synthesis of 6-(4-(un)substituted phenyl)thiazolo[2,3-f]theophyllines 2a-g and different series of 8-(1,2,4-triazol-3-ylmethylthio)theophyllines 6-9. The chemical structures of the target compounds were proved by IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, EI-MS and HRMS spectroscopic techniques along with elemental analyses. The bronchodilator activity of fifteen compounds was determined in vivo by acetylcholine induced bronchospasm in anaesthetized guinea pigs. Results revealed that all compounds showed moderate to good activity; in addition, five compounds exhibited a bronchodilator activity nearly similar to that of aminophylline as a standard. The antibacterial activity of all the target compounds was investigated in vitro against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacterial strains. Results revealed that some compounds showed more potent antibacterial activity than ampicillin as a standard. Acute toxicity study for four target compounds revealed that none of these derivatives showed significant toxicity up to 300 mg/kg. It was found that compound 8c combined both promising bronchodilator and antibacterial activities. This compound could be subjected for further investigations as a new possible candidate in the treatment of bronchial asthma.
On Testing Exponentiality Against NBURFR Class Of Life Distributions
Mahmoud, M.A.W.,Abdul Alim, N.A. The Korean Reliability Society 2003 International Journal of Reliability and Applicati Vol.4 No.2
A non-parametric test based on U-statistic for testing exponentiality against the new better than used renewal failure rate (NBURFR) alternatives is introduced and the percentiles of this test statistic are tabulated for sample size 5(1)50. Its properties are also discussed including the Pitman asymptotic efficiency relative to the tests of the new better than used and new better than used failure rate (Ahmed (1994) and Hendi (2000)). The powers of this test are also calculated for some used life distributions. An example from blood cancer patients demonstrates a practical application of our test in the medical sciences is presented. Finally the problem when right-censored data is available is handled.
A Goodness of Fit Approach for Testing NBUFR (NWUFR) and NBAFR (NWAFR) Properties
Mahmoud, M.A.W.,Alim, N.A. Abdul The Korean Reliability Society 2008 International Journal of Reliability and Applicati Vol.9 No.2
The new better than used failure rate (NBUFR), Abouammoh and Ahmed (1988), and new better than average failure rate (NBAFR) Loh (1984) classes of life distributions, have been considered in the literature as natural weakenings of NBU (NWU) property. The paper considers testing exponentiality against strictly NBUFR (NBAFR) alternatives, or their duals, based on goodness of fit approach that is possible in life testing problems and that it results in simpler procedures that are asymptotically equivalent or better than standard ones. They may also have superior finite sample behavior. The asymptotic normality are proved. Powers, Pitman asymptotic efficiency and critical points are computed. Dealing with censored data case also studied. Practical applications of our tests in the medical sciences are present.
Multi Project Scheduling and Material Planning Using Lagrangian Relaxation Algorithm
Alim Al Ayub Ahmed,Ngakan Ketut Acwin Dwijendra,Naresh Babu Bynagari,A. K. Modenov,M. Kavitha,Egor Dudukalov 대한산업공학회 2021 Industrial Engineeering & Management Systems Vol.20 No.4
Resource-constrained project scheduling is one of the well-known problems in project management. There are many cases where the appropriate schedule was determined first and material ordering plan was decided considering the given schedule. This approach ignores the interactions between these decisions. The integration of project scheduling, material procurement, and production planning of non-renewable resources leads to the coordination of project im-plementation and supplying resources. This coordination reduces total costs, including operating activities, produc-tion, ordering, holding, and penalty costs for late project completion. In addition to, there are many organizations that implement the multi project at the same time and decisions are made in a multi project environment. In this paper, a mixed integer programming model is presented for the resource-constrained multi-project scheduling problem and material ordering and production planning. Due to the application of Lagrangian relaxation algorithm in solving com-plex problems, this algorithm has been used to solve the proposed mathematical model. To evaluate the performance of the proposed model and solution method, a set of sample examples is solved and the numerical results are given. The findings of this paper show the good performance of the model and the solution method and can provide managerial insights for project managers and resource suppliers.
