Purpose : The purpose of this research is to develop the optimized method and process in the reliability-growth target setting, especially for complex and repairable system (or products) such as vehicle and airplane, construction equipment. Method : A reliability-growth test plan specifies a scenario to achieve the planned reliability value (or reliability target). The major elements in test planning are reliability-growth starting time and reliability level at that time, reliability-growth rate and reliability-growth target. All of them except a reliability target can be referred to the previous development data and reference researches. The reliability target level is directly influencing to test period (or time) which is related to test and warranty cost together. There are a few researches about the reliability target setting method and but showing the limitations to consider the views of engineering, business and customer together. There is no research how to handle the target setting process in detail. Result : We develop the optimized method and systematic process in reliability target setting with considering such views. This research also establish the new concept as production capability which means company (or supplier) capability to product its products. Conclusion : In this research result, we apply the new method to a few projects and can set the reasonable test planning. The developing results is showing the good balance between the developing cost and warranty cost at market.
Reliability Equivalence Factors of a Series - Parallel System in Weibull Distribution
El-Damcese, M.A.,Khalifa, M.M. The Korean Reliability Society 2008 International Journal of Reliability and Applicati Vol.9 No.2
This paper discusses the reliability equivalences of a series-parallel system. The system components are assumed to be independent and identical. The failure rates of the system components are functions of time and follow Weibull distribution. Three different methods are used to improve the given system reliability. The reliability equivalence factor is obtained using the reliability function. The fractiles of the original and improved systems are also obtained. Numerical example is presented to interpret how to utilize the obtained results.
Using R Software for Reliability Data Analysis
Shaffer, Leslie B.,Young, Timothy M.,Guess, Frank M.,Bensmail, Halima,Leon, Ramon V. The Korean Reliability Society 2008 International Journal of Reliability and Applicati Vol.9 No.1
In this paper, we discuss the plethora of uses for the software package R, and focus specifically on its helpful applications in reliability data analyses. Examples are presented; including the R coding protocol, R code, and plots for various statistical as well as reliability analyses. We explore Kaplan-Meier estimates and maximum likelihood estimation for distributions including the Weibull. Finally, we discuss future applications of R, and usages of quantile regression in reliability.
On Testing Exponentiality Against HNRBUE Based on Goodness of Fit
Mahmoud, M.A.W.,Diab, L.S. The Korean Reliability Society 2007 International Journal of Reliability and Applicati Vol.8 No.1
Based on goodness of fit new testing procedures are derived for testing exponentiality against harmonic new renewal better than used in expectation (HNRBUE). For this aging properties, a nonparametric procedure (U-statistic) is proposed. The percentiles of this test statistic are tabulated for sample sizes n=5(1)30(10)50. The Pitman asymptotic efficiency (PAE) of the test is calculated and compared with, the (PAE) of the test for new renewal better than used (NRBU) class of life distribution [see Mahmoud et al (2003)]. The power of this test is also calculated for some commonly used life distributions in reliability. The right censored data case is also studied. Finally, real examples are given to elucidate the use of the proposed test statistic in the reliability analysis.
Failure patterns of repairable systems and a flexible intensity function model
Jiang, R.,Huang, C. The Korean Reliability Society 2012 International Journal of Reliability and Applicati Vol.13 No.2
Engineering systems are usually repairable. The reliability of a repairable system can be represented by failure intensity function. A type of shape of failure intensity function is called a failure pattern. Reliability-Centred Maintenance (RCM) presents six typical failure patterns but its definition is unclear. It is an open issue how to recognize the failure pattern of repairable systems. This paper first discusses the problems of RCM with the notion of failure pattern; then presents the method for failure pattern recognition; and finally proposes a flexible failure intensity function model. The appropriateness of the model is illustrated by a real-world example.
Testing of EBELC classes of life distributions based on TTT-transform
Abu-Youssef, S.E.,Mohie El-Din, M.M.,Hassan, M.Kh. The Korean Reliability Society 2012 International Journal of Reliability and Applicati Vol.13 No.1
Using total time on test transform (TTT), a new approach is taken for testing exponentiality versus the unknown age, exponential better than equilibrium life in convex ordering (EBELC). Selected critical values are tabulated for sample size n =2(2)50 and powers of the test are estimated for some commonly used distributions in reliability. Finally real example is presented to illustrate the theoretical results.
Abu-Youssef, S.E.,Al-nachawati, H. The Korean Reliability Society 2006 International Journal of Reliability and Applicati Vol.7 No.2
A new classes of life distribution, namely harmonic used better than aged in expectation in upper tail (HUBAEUT) is introduced. Testing exponentiality against this class is investigated using kernel method. The limiting null and nonnull distribution of the test statistics is normal and the null variance is calculated exactly. Selected critical values are tabulated for sample sizes of 5(1)40. Power of the test are estimated by simulation. the efficacies of the test statistics used for testing against HUBAEUT are calculated for som common alternatives and are compared to some other procedures. It is shown that proposed test is simple, has high relative efficiency and power for some commonly used alternatives. The set of real data are used as an examples to elucidate the use of the proposed test statistics for practical reliability.
Testing NBUCA Class of Life Distribution Using U-Test
Al-Nachawati, H. The Korean Reliability Society 2007 International Journal of Reliability and Applicati Vol.8 No.2
In this paper, testing exponentiality against new better than used in convex average and denote by (NBUCA), or its dual (NWUCA) is investigated through the U-test. The percentiles of these tests are tabulated for samples sizes n = 5(1)40. The power estimates of the test are simulated for some commonly used distributions in reliability. Pitman's asymptotic efficiency of the test is calculated and compared. Data of 40 patients suffering from blood cancer disease (Leukemia) is considered as a practical application of the proposed test in the medical sciences.
Mahmoud, M.A.W.,Moshref, M.E.,Gadallah, A.M. The Korean Reliability Society 2014 International Journal of Reliability and Applicati Vol.15 No.1
New classes of life distributions called new better (worse) than used at age $t_0$ in Laplace transform order, NBUL- $t_0$(NWUL - $t_0$) are introduced. For the classes NBUL - $t_0$(NWUL - $t_0$), preservation under convolution, mixture, mixing and the homogeneous Poisson shock model are studied. In the sequel, we obtain a test for $H_0$ : F is exponential versus $H_1$ : F is NBUL - $t_0$ and not exponential. The critical values and the powers of this test are calculated to assess the performance of the test. It is shown that the proposed test has high efficiencies for some commonly used distributions in reliability. Sets of real data are used as examples to elucidate the use of the proposed test for practical problems.
Reliability Equivalence of Two Non-identical Components
Mustafa, A. The Korean Reliability Society 2008 International Journal of Reliability and Applicati Vol.9 No.1
The aim of this work is to generalize reliability equivalence techniques to apply them to a system consists of two independent and non-identical components connected in series(parallel) system, that have constant failure rates. We shall improve the system by using one component only. We start by establishing two different types of reliability equivalence factors, the survival reliability equivalence (SRE) and mean reliability equivalence (MRE) factors. Our second studies, introducing some applications for our studies in airports and our life. Also, we introduced some numerical results.
