Buckling analysis of elastically-restrained steel plates under eccentric compression

        Ying Qin,Gan-Ping Shu,Er-Feng Du,Rui-Hua Lu 국제구조공학회 2018 Steel and Composite Structures, An International J Vol.29 No.3

In this research, the explicit closed-form local buckling solution of steel plates in contact with concrete, with both loaded and unloaded edges elastically restrained against rotation and subjected to eccentric compression is presented. The Rayleigh-Rize approach is applied to establish the eigenvalue problem for the local buckling performance. Buckling shape which combines trigonometric and biquadratic functions is introduced according to that used by Qin et al. (2017) on steel plate buckling under uniform compression. Explicit solutions for predicting the local buckling stress of steel plate are obtained in terms of the rotational stiffness. Based on different boundary conditions, simply yet explicit local buckling solutions are discussed in details. The proposed formulas are validated against previous research and finite element results. The influences of the loading stress gradient parameter, the aspect ratio, and the rotational stiffness on the local buckling stress resultants of steel plates with different boundary conditions were evaluated. This work can be considered as an alternative to apply a different buckling shape function to study the buckling problem of steel plate under eccentric compression comparing to the work by Qin et al. (2018), and the results are found to be in consistent with those in Qin et al. (2018).

Comparative Analysis of Performance and Microbial Characteristics Between High-Solid and Low-Solid Anaerobic Digestion of Sewage Sludge Under Mesophilic Conditions

( Qin Lu ),( Jing Yi ),( Dian Hai Yang ) 한국미생물 · 생명공학회 2016 Journal of microbiology and biotechnology Vol.26 No.1

High-solid anaerobic digestion of sewage sludge achieves highly efficient volatile solid reduction, and production of volatile fatty acid (VFA) and methane compared with conventional low-solid anaerobic digestion. In this study, the potential mechanisms of the better performance in high-solid anaerobic digestion of sewage sludge were investigated by using 454 high-throughput pyrosequencing and real-time PCR to analyze the microbial characteristics in sewage sludge fermentation reactors. The results obtained by 454 highthroughput pyrosequencing revealed that the phyla Chloroflexi, Bacteroidetes, and Firmicutes were the dominant functional microorganisms in high-solid and low-solid anaerobic systems. Meanwhile, the real-time PCR assays showed that high-solid anaerobic digestion significantlyincreased the number of total bacteria, which enhanced the hydrolysis and acidification of sewage sludge. Further study indicated that the number of total archaea (dominated by Methanosarcina) in a high-solid anaerobic fermentation reactor was also higher than that in a low-solid reactor, resulting in higher VFA consumption and methane production. Hence, the increased key bacteria and methanogenic archaea involved in sewage sludge hydrolysis, acidification, and methanogenesis resulted in the better performance of high-solid anaerobic sewage sludge fermentation.

      • Computed Tomography Manifestations of Histologic Subtypes of Retroperitoneal Liposarcoma

        Lu, Jing,Qin, Qin,Zhan, Liang-Liang,Yang, Xi,Xu, Qing,Yu, Jing,Dou, Li-Na,Zhang, Hao,Yang, Yan,Chen, Xiao-Chen,Yang, Yue-Hua,Cheng, Hong-Yan,Sun, Xin-Chen Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.15

Objective: Liposarcoma (LPS) is the most common soft tissue sarcoma and accounts for approximately 20% of all mesenchymal malignancies, often occurring in deep soft tissue of retroperitoneal space. Accurate preoperative diagnosis is therefore necessary. We explored whether computed tomography (CT) could be used to differentiate between the various types of retroperitoneal liposarcoma (RPLS). Method: Forty-seven cases of RPLS, diagnosed surgically and histologically, were analyzed retrospectively. CT features were correlated with postoperative pathological appearance. Results: The study radiologist identified 29, 11, 2, 2 and 3 RPLS as atypical lipomatous tumor/well-differentiated liposarcoma (ALT/WDL), dedifferentiated liposarcoma (DDL), myxoid/round cell liposarcoma (ML/RCL), pleomorphic liposarcoma (PL) and mixed-type liposarcoma. Analysis of CT scans revealed the following typical findings of the different subtypes of RPLS: ALT/WDL was mainly visible as a well-delineated fatty hypodense tumor with uniform density and integrity margin; DDL was marked by the combination of focal nodular density and hypervascularity. ML/RCL, PL and mixed liposarcoma showed malignant biological behaviour and CT findings need further studies. Conclusions: CT scanning can reveal important details including internal components, margins and surrounding tissues. Based on CT findings, tumor type can be roughly evaluated and biopsy location and therapeutic scheme guided.

Preparation of PAN/GO composite nanofiber membrane for oil-containing wastewater treatment

        Lu Tong,Zhang Qingxia,Yang Jingjing,Xin Yue,Zhang Zhilei,Hu Lingye,Hu Jing,Qin Qin,Yang Hao 한국탄소학회 2024 Carbon Letters Vol.34 No.1

The discharge of industrial oily wastewater and oil spill accidents has resulted in significant environmental pollution, creating an urgent need for the treatment of oily wastewater. Nanofiber membranes, known for their high stability, flux, and efficiency, are widely employed in oil–water separation. This study systematically compared the performance of polyacrylonitrile/graphene oxide (PAN/GO) composite nanofiber membranes prepared through immersion and electrospinning methods for oily wastewater treatment. Experimental findings demonstrated that immersion-prepared membranes achieved high flux (772.9 ± 2.9 L·m−2·h−1, n-hexane/water mixture) and efficiency (98.8%) at a GO concentration of 1.0 g/mL. On the other hand, electrospinning-prepared membranes exhibited superior flux (1500.3 ± 4.4 L·m−2·h−1, n-hexane/water mixture) and efficiency (99.6%) at a higher GO concentration (1.5 g/mL). This membrane displayed excellent stability, maintaining their exceptional performance even after ten cycles of separation. This study compared the advantages and disadvantages of the two methods for preparation of PAN/GO composite nanofiber membrane, offering valuable guidance for practical applications.

Estrogen Receptor-α Exacerbates EGF-Inducing Airway Remodeling and Mucus Production in Bronchial Epithelium of Asthmatics

        Qin Lu,Yue Junqing,Guo Mingzhou,Zhang Cong,Fang Xiaoyu,Zhang Shengding,Bai Wenxue,Liu Xiansheng,Xie Min 대한천식알레르기학회 2023 Allergy, Asthma & Immunology Research Vol.15 No.5

Purpose: Although estrogen receptors (ERs) signal pathways are involved in the pathogenesis and development of asthma, their expressions and effects remain controversial. This study aimed to investigate the expressions of ERα and ERβ as well as their mechanisms in airway remodeling and mucus production in asthma. Methods: The expressions of ERα and ERβ in the airway epithelial cells of bronchial biopsies and induced sputum cells were examined by immunohistochemistry. The associations of ERs expressions with airway inflammation and remodeling were evaluated in asthmatic patients. In vitro, the regulations of ERs expressions in human bronchial epithelial cell lines were examined using western blot analysis. The epidermal growth factor (EGF)-mediated ligand-independent activation of ERα and its effect on epithelial-mesenchymal transitions (EMTs) were investigated in asthmatic epithelial cells by western blot, immunofluorescent staining, and quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction. Results: ERα and ERβ were expressed on both bronchial epithelial cells and induced sputum cells, and the expressions showed no sex difference. Compared to controls, male asthmatic patients had higher levels of ERα on the bronchial epithelium, and there were cell-specific expressions of ERα and ERβ in induced sputum. The expression of ERα in the airway epithelium was inversely correlated to forced expiratory volume in 1 second (FEV1) % and FEV1/forced vital capacity. Severe asthmatic patients had significantly greater levels of ERα in the airway epithelium than mild-moderate patients. ERα level was positively correlated with the thickness of the subepithelial basement membrane and airway epithelium. In vitro, co-stimulation of interleukin (IL)-4 and EGF increased the expression of ERα and promoted its nuclear translocation. EGF activated the phosphorylation of ERα via extracellular signal-regulated kinase and c-Jun N-terminal kinase pathways. ERα knockdown alleviated EGF-mediated EMTs and mucus production in airway epithelial cells of asthma. Conclusions: ERα contributes to asthmatic airway remodeling and mucus production through the EGF-mediated ligand-independent pathway.

Flexural Behavior of Anchor Horizontal Boundary Element in Steel Plate Shear Wall

        Ying Qin,JinYu Lu,Li-Cheng-Xi Huang,Shi Cao 한국강구조학회 2017 International Journal of Steel Structures Vol.17 No.3

Steel plate shear walls (SPSWs) have been increasingly used in lateral load resisting system since the post-buckling strength of web plates was realized and considered in practical design. Diagonal tension field is formed in the web plate to resist the lateral force induced by winds and earthquakes. The force is anchored by the surrounded horizontal boundary elements (HBEs) and vertical boundary elements (VBEs) and eventually transferred to the ground. Therefore, the response of HBEs, especially anchor HBEs, is essential to ensure that SPSWs could exhibit the required strength, ductility, and energy dissipation capacity. This paper presents the results of theoretical studies into the flexural behavior of the anchor HBEs of SPSWs and can be regarded as an extension to the previous work by Qu and Bruneau (2011) and Qin et al. (2017). The boundary effect was considered to reflect the actual stress state at the HBE-to-VBE connection, which assembled the method by Qin et al. (2017). Furthermore, more proper distributions of the vertical component of tension field for the positive and negative flexure cases, respectively, were proposed comparing to the work by Qu and Bruneau (2011). The hand calculation approach for the plastic flexural capacity of the anchor HBEs was given by the summation of the contributions from the flanges and the web. The developed equations are compared with previous data and good agreement was found between them. Meanwhile, comprehensively discussions are conducted to evaluate the influence of key parameters on the flexural behavior of anchor HBE. It was found that the plastic flexural capacity of anchor HBE decreases from unity to the minimum as a result of the increase in shear force, axial force and vertical stresses. Moreover, the flexural response of anchor HBE is most vulnerable to the change in shear force. This indicates that boundary effect is significantly important and cannot be ignored in the analysis. The research in this paper provides basis for the capacity design of anchor HBE.

Identification of piRNAs in Hela cells by massive parallel sequencing

( Yi Lu Lu ),( Chao Li ),( Kun Zhang ),( Hua Qin Sun ),( Da Chang Tao ),( Yun Qiang Liu ),( Si Zong Zhang ),( Yong Xin Ma ) 생화학분자생물학회 (구 한국생화학분자생물학회) 2010 BMB Reports Vol.43 No.9

Piwi proteins and Piwi-interacting RNAs (piRNAs) have been implicated in transposon control in germline from Drosophila to mammals. To examine the profile of small RNA expression in human cancer cells and explore difference in small RNA transcriptome, small RNA libraries prepared from wildtype, HILI overexpressed and HILI knockdowned Hela cells were sequenced using Solexa technology. piRNAs and other repeat- associated small RNAs were observed in Hela cells. By using in situ hybridization, piR-49322 was localized in the nucleolus and around the periphery of nuclear membrane in Hela cells. Following the overexpression of HILI, the retrotransposon elements LINE1 was significantly repressed, while LINE1-associated small RNAs decreased in abundance. The present study demonstrated that HILI along with piRNAs plays a role in LINE1 suppression in Hela cancer cell line. [BMB reports 2010; 43(9): 635-641]

Characteristics and Risk Factors of Functional Dyspepsia Fulfilling the Rome IV Criteria Overlapping With Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, and Functional Constipation in South China

        ( Yan-qin Long ),( Wen-li Xu ),( Lu-xiu Li ),( Hui-qin He ),( Jing-jie Wang ),( Guo-dong Shan ),( Ning Dai ),( Hong-tan Chen ) 대한소화기기능성질환·운동학회 2024 Journal of Neurogastroenterology and Motility (JNM Vol.30 No.2

Background/Aims Functional dyspepsia (FD) overlapping with other gastrointestinal disorders are quite common. The characteristics of FD overlap in Chinese population with latest Rome IV criteria were unclear. This large-scale outpatient-based study assessed the characteristics of FD overlap in South China. Methods Consecutive FD patients visited the Gastroenterology Clinic at 2 tertiary medical centers in Hangzhou, China who fulfilled the Rome IV criteria were enrolled. Complete questionnaires related to the gastrointestinal symptoms (Rome IV criteria), Reflux Disease Questionnaire, anxiety and depression, quality of sleep and life, and demographic information were collected. Results Among the total of 3281 FD patients, 50.69% overlapped with gastroesophageal reflux disease, 21.46% overlapped with irritable bowel syndrome, 6.03% overlapped with functional constipation. FD overlap had higher proportion of single/divorced/widowed rate, high education level, being employed, drinking, night shift, unhealthy dietary habit than FD only (P < 0.05). They had higher frequency of consultation and economic burden, as well as lower scores in quality of life (P < 0.001). Multivariate logistic regression showed that increasing age, female, low body mass index, history of gastroenteritis, anxiety, depression, and poor sleep quality were independent risk factors for FD overlap. Conclusions FD overlap was quite common in China with high economic burden and poor quality of life, FD patients with history of gastroenteritis, anxiety, depression, and poor sleep quality were more likely to have overlap disorders. Awareness of the physical and psychosocial stressors in overlapping condition would help optimize the management of FD overlap in clinical practice. (J Neurogastroenterol Motil 2024;30:184-193)

      • Lack of Association Between CYP1A1 Polymorphisms and Risk of Bladder Cancer: a Meta-analysis

        Lu, Yu,Zhang, Xiao-Lian,Xie, Li,Li, Tai-Jie,He, Yu,Peng, Qi-Liu,Deng, Yan,Wang, Jian,Qin, Xue,Li, Shan Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.9

Background: The effects of CYP1A1 gene polymorphisms on the risk of bladder cancer (BC) remain controversial. We carried out a meta-analysis to clarify the role of CYP1A1 gene polymorphisms in BC. Material and Methods: A comprehensive literature search was conducted up to November 20, 2013. Odds ratios (ORs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were used to estimate the strength of the association. Meta-regression, subgroup analysis, sensitivity analysis and publication bias were also performed. Results: Eight studies involving 1,059 BC cases and 1,061 controls were included. The meta-analysis showed that there was no significant association between the two common mutations of CYP1A1 and BC risk. For the I1e462Val A/G polymorphism with GG vs. AA the OR was 1.47 (95 % CI= 0.70-3.07, P =0.308). For the MspI T/C polymorphism, though a slight trend was found this was not statistically nonsignificant (CC vs.TT, OR = 1.24, 95 % CI= 0.98-1.58, P =0.078). Subgroup analyses by ethnicity also found no obvious association between CYP1A1 and BC risk. Conclusion: The present meta-analysis suggests that CYP1A1 polymorphism is not associated with bladder cancer risk.

Molecular Cloning, Bioinformatics Analysis and Expression Profiling of a Gene Encoding Vacuolar-type $H^+-ATP$ Synthetase (V-ATPase) c Subunit from Bombyx mori

Lu, Peng,Chen, Keping,Yao, Qin,Yang, Hua-Jun Korean Society of Sericultural Science 2007 International Journal of Industrial Entomology Vol.15 No.2

As the genome of B.mori is available in GenBank and the EST database of B.mori is expanding, identification of novel genes of B.mori is conceivable by data-mining techniques. We used the in silico cloning method to get the vacuolar-type $H^+-ATP$ synthetase (V-ATPase) c subunit (16 kDa proteolipid subunit) gene of B.mori and analysed with bioinformatics tools. The result was confirmed by RT-PCR and sequencing. The V-ATPase c subunit cDNA contains a 468 bp ORF. The ORF encoded a 155-residue protein that showed extensive homology with V-ATPase c subunits from other 15 species and contained four membrane-spanning helices. Tissue expression pattern analysis revealed that V-ATPase c expressed strongly in Malpighian tubules, not in fat body. This gene has been registered in GenBank under the accession number EU082222.
