ORiginal Article : Endoscopic Intervention through Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography in the Management of Symptomatic Pancreas Divisum: A Long-Term Follow-Up Study

( Yi Lu ),( Bin Xu ),( Lu Chen ),( Li Ke Bie ),( Biao Gong ) 대한간학회 2016 Gut and Liver Vol.10 No.3

Background/Aims: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) for the treatment of symptomatic pancreas divisum (PD) and to discuss whether ERCP procedures and outcomes in younger patients differ from those of adults. Methods: Symptomatic patients with PD were included in the study and divided into underaged (age ≤17 years) and adult (age ≥18 years) group. The clinical information of each patient was reviewed, and then the patients were contacted by telephone or their medical records were reviewed to determine their long-term followup outcomes. Results: A total of 141 procedures were performed in 82 patients (17 underaged and 65 adult patients). The ERCP indications included abdominal pain (39.02%), pancreatitis (12.20%), recurrent pancreatitis (36.59%), and other discomfort (12.20%). The endoscopic interventions included endoscopic pancreatic sphincterotomy in 44.68% of the patients, bouginage in 26.95%, pancreatic ductal stone extraction in 19.15%, endoscopic nasopancreatic drainage in 21.99%, and endoscopic retrograde pancreatic drainage in 56.74%. After a median follow-up of 41 months, the overall response rate was 62.32%. Between the underaged group and the adult group, significant differences were not observed in the ERCP procedures, complications and longterm follow-up results. Conclusions: ERCP is a safe and effective treatment for symptomatic PD. Based on the details, complications, and follow-up results, the ERCP procedure did not present differences between the underaged and adult groups. (Gut Liver 2016;10:476-482)

      • RTN4 3'-UTR Insertion/Deletion Polymorphism and Susceptibility to Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer in Chinese Han Population

        Lu, De-Yi,Mao, Xu-Hua,Zhou, Ying-Hui,Yan, Xiao-Long,Wang, Wei-Ping,Zheng, Ya-Biao,Xiao, Juan-Juan,Zhang, Ping,Wang, Jian-Guo,Ashwani, Neetika,Ding, Wei-Liang,Jiang, Hua,Shang, Yan,Wang, Ming-Hua Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.13

Nogo protein, encoded by gene reticulon-4 (RTN4), includes three major isoforms by different splicing, named Nogo-A Nogo-B and Nogo-C. Nogo proteins play an important role in the apoptosis of cells, especially in tumor cells. RTN4 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) can influence the efficiency of transcription and translation thus being related with an individual's predisposition to cancer. The CAA insertion/deletion polymorphism (rs34917480) within RTN4 3'-UTR has been reported to be associated with many cancer types. In order to investigate the relationship between this polymorphism and susceptibility to non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) in the Chinese population, we conducted the present case-control study including 411 NSCLC patients and 471 unrelated healthy controls. The genotype distributions were significantly different between cases and controls (p=0.014). We found that the del allele could significantly increase NSCLC risk (ins/ins vs ins/del: p=0.007, OR 1.46, 95%CI=1.11-1.93; dominant model: p=0.004, OR 1.47, 95%CI=1.13-1.92 and allele model: p=0.008, OR 1.35, 95%CI=1.08-1.67). This association was stronger in participants over 60 years old, males and smokers. We therefore conclude that the CAA insertion/deletion polymorphism (rs34917480) contributes to non-small cell lung cancer risk in Chinese population. Age, sex and environmental exposure are also related to carcinogenic effects of rs34917480.

      • Bulk Amorphous and/or Nanocrystalline Finemet Alloy Prepared by Super-high-pressure Consolidation

        Lu Wei,Yanb Biao 한국분말야금학회 2006 한국분말야금학회 학술대회논문집 Vol.2006 No.1

Microstructure and soft magnetic properties of bulk amorphous and/or nanocrystalline Fe73.5Cu1Nb3Si13.5B9 alloys prepared by consolidation at 5.5GPa were investigated. The relative density of the bulk sample 1 (from amorphous powders) was 98.5% and the grain sizes were about 10.6nm. While the relative density and grain sizes of bulk sample 2 (from nanocrystalline powders) are 98% and 20.1nm, respectively. Particularly, the bulk samples exhibited a good combined magnetic property: for Sample1, Ms=125emu/g and Hc=1.5Oe; for Sample2, Ms=129emu/g and Hc=3.3Oe. The success of synthesizing the nanocrystalline Fe-based bulk alloys will be encouraging for the future development of bulk nanocrystalline soft magnetic alloys.

Gearshift characteristics of a two-speed transmission using new electrically controlled toothed band brakes

Biao Ma,Weichen Lu,He Wang,Liang Yu 대한기계학회 2022 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.36 No.12

In order to realize the miniaturization and electrification of heavy vehicles, this paper innovatively puts forward a two-speed transmission device equiped with electrically controlled toothed band brakes. The dynamic models of the planetary gear and toothed band brake are derived, and the shift strategy is established to achieve the optimal dynamic performance. Moreover, the gearshift characteristics under different working parameters are studied to verify its feasibility. The results demonstrate that the toothed band brake has a short braking time and contributes to good shift performance, thus has potential for application. The effect of synchronous speed and actuator speed on shift performance is also analyzed. The increase of both speeds is beneficial to speed up the shift time, but lead to increased shift impact. The application of such a brake offers the possibility of full-electric and lightweight for electric vehicles.

      • Classification and properties of quantum spin liquids on the hyperhoneycomb lattice

        Huang, Biao,Choi, Wonjune,Kim, Yong Baek,Lu, Yuan-Ming American Physical Society 2018 Physical Review B Vol.97 No.19

The family of 'Kitaev materials' provides an ideal platform to study quantum spin liquids and their neighboring magnetic orders. Motivated by the possibility of a quantum spin liquid ground state in pressurized hyperhoneycomb iridate beta-Li2IrO3, we systematically classify and study symmetric quantum spin liquids on the hyperhoneycomb lattice, using the Abrikosov-fermion representation. Among the 176 symmetric U(1) spin liquids (and 160 Z(2) spin liquids), we identify eight 'root' U(1) spin liquids in proximity to the ground state of the solvable Kitave model on the hyperhonecyomb lattice. These eight states are promising candidates for possible U (1) spin liquid ground states in pressurized beta-Li2IrO3. We further discuss physical properties of these eight U(1) spin liquid candidates, and show that they all support nodal-line-shaped spinon Fermi surfaces.

      • Interplay of nonsymmorphic symmetry and spin-orbit coupling in hyperkagome spin liquids: Applications to Na4Ir3O8

        Huang, Biao,Kim, Yong Baek,Lu, Yuan-Ming American Physical Society 2017 Physical Review B Vol.95 No.5

Na4Ir3O8 provides a material platform to study three-dimensional quantum spin liquids in the geometrically frustrated hyperkagome lattice of Ir4+ ions. In this work, we consider quantum spin liquids on a hyperkagome lattice for generic spin models, focusing on the effects of anisotropic spin interactions. In particular, we classify possible Z(2) and U(1) spin liquid states, following the projective symmetry group analysis in the slave-fermion representation. There are only three distinct Z2 spin liquids, together with 2 different U(1) spin liquids. The nonsymmorphic space group symmetry of the hyperkagome lattice plays a vital role in simplifying the classification, forbidding 'pi-flux' or ' staggered-flux' phases in contrast to symmorphic space groups. We further prove that both U(1) states and one Z2 state among all 3 are symmetry-protected gapless spin liquids, robust against any symmetry-preserving perturbations. Motivated by the 'spin-freezing' behavior recently observed in Na4Ir3O8 at low temperatures, we further investigate the nearest-neighbor spin model with the dominant Heisenberg interaction subject to all possible anisotropic perturbations from spin-orbit couplings. We find that a U(1) spin liquid ground state with spinon Fermi surfaces is energetically favored over Z(2) states. Among all spin-orbit coupling terms, we show that only the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction can induce spin anisotropy in the ground state when perturbing from the isotropic Heisenberg limit. Our work paves the way for a systematic study of quantum spin liquids in various materials with a hyperkagome crystal structure.

Ascorbic Acid Alleviates Pancreatic Damage Induced by Dibutyltin Dichloride (DBTC) in Rats

        Xin-Liang Lu,Yan-Hua Song,Yan-Biao Fu,Jian-Min Si,Ke-Da Qian 연세대학교의과대학 2007 Yonsei medical journal Vol.48 No.6

Purpose: Because previous studies have reported depleted antioxidant capacity in patients with chronic pancreatitis (CP), prevention of free radical production has gained importance in antifibrotic treatment strategies for CP. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of ascorbic acid on oxidative capacity and pancreatic damage in experimental CP. Materials and Methods: CP was induced in male Sprague-Dawley rats by infusion of dibutyltin dichloride (DBTC) into the tail vein. Ascorbic acid was given intraperitoneally at a daily dose of 10mg/kg body weight. The treatment groups were as follows: group 1, DBTC plus intraperitoneal physiologic saline; group 2, DBTC plus intraperitoneal ascorbic acid; group 3, solvent plus intraperitoneal physiologic saline; group 4, no operation plus intraperitoneal physiologic saline. Each group contained 15 animals. Treatment was started after CP was established. After 4 weeks of treatment, serum hyaluronic acid and laminin levels were determined by radioimmunoassay, pancreatic tissue oxidative stress was analyzed, and the degree of pancreatic damage was determined. Results: Ascorbic acid treatment markedly increased superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity and decreased malondialdehyde (MDA) concentrations in pancreatic tissue (p<0.01 for both). Significant serum hyaluronic acid and laminin reductions were observed in group 2 as compared with group 1 (p<0.05). However, the serum hyaluronic acid and laminin levels remained elevated when compared with those of groups 3 and 4 (p<0.05). Histopathologic scores were also lower in animals with CP that underwent ascorbic acid-treatment (p<0.05). Conclusion: Ascorbic acid treatment alleviated the degree of oxidative stress and pancreatic damage in rat CP. Antioxidant treatment might be considered a potential option to improve the pathologic process in CP.

Flavonoid Production Is Effectively Regulated by RNAi Interference of Two Flavone Synthase Genes from Glycine max

        Yi Na Jiang,Biao Wang,Hui Li,Lu Ming Yao,Tian Long Wu 한국식물학회 2010 Journal of Plant Biology Vol.53 No.6

Flavonoids are a group of secondary metabolites found in many higher plants. The multiple roles of their flavone subclass include protection against UV damage, regulation of auxin transport, and modulation of flower color. In soybean (Glycine max), flavone synthase II (FNS II) is the key enzyme responsible for flavone biosynthesis. Two FNS II genes from soybean cultivar Hefeng 47 were cloned according to basic local alignment search tool (BLAST) contexts using flavone synthase sequences reported in other species. These were named GmFNSII-1and GmFNSII-2. Sequence alignments showed that the cDNA of GmFNSII-1 was identical to that of CYP93B16,whereas GmFNSII-2 was clearly distinct. Functional assays in yeast (Schizosaccharomyces pombe) suggested that these two enzymes could convert (2S)-naringenin into apigenin. The two GmFNSII genes had similar tissue-specific expression patterns, but GmFNSII-2 was significantly expressed in the roots after treatment with 0.4 M glucose. This demonstrates that the gene plays an important role in the response to defense signals in soybean. RNA interference-mediated suppression of those GmFNSII genes effectively regulated flavone and isoflavone production in hairy roots that arose from soybean cotyledons transformed with Agrobacterium rhizogenes (ATCC15834). Our study also highlights some of the challenges associated with metabolic engineering of plant natural products.

Genetic Analysis and Molecular Mapping of Gene Associated with Dominant Genic Male Sterility in Rapeseed (Brassica napus L.)

        Jun Liu,Deng Feng Hong,Wei Lu,Ping Wu Liu,Qing Biao He,Guang Sheng Yang 한국유전학회 2008 Genes & Genomics Vol.30 No.6

Rs1046AB is a dominant genic male sterility (DGMS) line derived from a spontaneous mutant in Brassica napus. The sterility of this mutant was previously regarded as to be conditioned by the interaction of a dominant male sterility gene Ms and its non-allelic dominant restorer gene Mf (or Rf in previous reports). Recent genetic analyses, however, indicated that Ms and Mf may be allelic. In this research, we confirmed that a multiple allele model should be more appropriate to elucidate the heredity of DGMS line Rs1046AB. Based on this result, the present study emphasized on identifying DNA markers linked to Ms/Mf in an F2 population constructed by crossing Rs1046A with a double haploid (DH) restorer line (19514A). Twenty amplified fragment length polymorphism (AFLP) markers linked to the Ms/Mf locus were identified by combination of bulked segregant analysis (BSA) with AFLP technique. The target locus was detected to be co-segregating with the marker S05T05 and bracketed by two nearest markers, E14M01 and E01M02, with a genetic distance of 0.1 cM and 1.2 cM, respectively. Furthermore, we successfully converted two AFLP markers into sequence characterized amplified region (SCAR) markers. These findings provided direct molecular marker proofs on the inheritance model of this DGMS line, and the high density molecular markers linkage map around the Ms/Mf locus will be more informative for both marker-assisted selection (MAS) of elite male sterile lines and isolation of the Ms/Mf genes by positional cloning in future.
