Harvest index is a key trait for screening drought-tolerant potato genotypes (Solanum tuberosum)

Drought stress is a significant constraint that affects the yield of almost all major crops. Its impact is expected to worsen due to global climate change and human population expansion. Potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) is the third most important food crop worldwide, but it is highly susceptible to drought stress. In order to understand the effects of drought stress on yield and identify traits for selecting drought-tolerant potato genotypes, we evaluated the response of a range of agronomic and physiological traits in 15 potato genotypes under well-watered (WW) and water deficit (WD) conditions. The harvest index (HI) was found to have a high plot-based heritability (0.98), indicating that it can be used for the indirect selection of drought-tolerant genotypes. In contrast, SPAD was sensitive to detecting early drought stress in potatoes. Drought-tolerant genotypes, including CIP392797.22 (UNICA), CIP397077.16, CIP398190.89, CIP398208.219, and CIP398208.620, were able to allocate limited water towards tuber production rather than biomass. These genotypes showed high tuber production under WW conditions and increased photosynthetic activity and water use efficiency under WD conditions.

A standard paradigm for the allocation of wireless resources in communication demands symmetry, that is, all users are assumed to be on equal footing and hence get equal shares of the system's communication capabilities. However, there are situations in which "prime users" should be given priority, as for example in the transmission of emergency messages. We examine prioritization policies that could be implemented at the physical layer and propose a new one, termed interference priority (IP), which is shown to have excellent performance. We evaluate the performance of these prioritization techniques both in controlled settings and within the context of a full cellular system and discuss the impact of prioritized use of resources on the unprioritized users.

This paper presents a control algorithm for the taking off and landing manoeuvres of a quadrotor aircraft in open navigation environments. For this purpose, a combination of controllers based on nested saturations and a generalised proportional integral (GPI) controller is used. The first controller limits both the angular positions and angular velocities in a small compact set, which defines the closed-loop stability domain and guarantees the total convergence of the state, whereas the second is designed for the translational aspect, considering the presence of disturbances during landing. The proposed controller is designed considering the presence of disturbances; therefore, greater robustness is obtained regarding perturbations that may occur in open navigation environments. The algorithm convergence is proven by means of Lyapunov’s second method. Several numerical simulations are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed algorithm, and a comparison test against an effective method for indoor environments is provided to illustrate its superior performance.
Occupational Hazards in Firefighting: Systematic Literature Review

Background: Firefighting involves exposure of firefighters to risks related to this activity, serious injuries, and occupational diseases are recorded. There are other consequences such as thermal and emotional stress. This systematic review is proposed in order to analyze the risks and consequences faced by these workers and thus provide elements to improve safety management systems in institutions. Method: A descriptive observational study of systematic literature review on the risks and consequences of exposure to firefighters’ activity was proposed, and the information was analyzed and described based on the available data and according to the variables determined. Results: The studies showed data on mechanical, physical, chemical, psychosocial risks, workers’ perception and resilience, and epidemiological data. Information related to firefighters’ activity on falls and slips, exposure to noise, and high concentrations of carbon monoxide is detailed. In addition, the relationship between burnout, cognitive, and physical fatigue as adverse effects on health and performance is mentioned. Conclusions: Among the preventive measures, the use of personal protective equipment is suggested, incorporation in prevention programs of information on exposure to risk factors, as well as the implementation of models that can predict the perception of workers, additionally, the generation of management systems with safety climate models for fire departments.
