Current state of research about acupuncture for the treatment of COVID-19: A scoping review

        Chen Chen,Jie Zhan,Hao Wen,Xiaojing Wei,Lu Ding,Chenyang Tao,Cui Li,Peiming Zhang,Yuyuan Tang,Jing-chun Zeng,Li-ming Lu 한국한의학연구원 2021 Integrative Medicine Research Vol.10 No.-

Background Since the outbreak of coronavirus disease (COVID-19), acupuncture has been widely used in the treatment of COVID-19. The research community has responded rapidly and has already published many research articles about this topic. Methods We searched PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library as well as CNKI, Wanfang and VIP from January 1, 2020 to July 31, 2021. The dates of publication, language of publication, methodological characteristics and the key findings were analyzed separately. The data are presented as bar graphs, structured tables and figures. Results In this scoping review, 16 research articles were included: 7 case reports, 6 observational studies, 1 review, 1 RCT and 1 nonrandomized clinical trial. The majority of the articles (81.3%) were published by Chinese scholars, 12.5% articles were by scholars in the United States, and 6.3% articles were by scholars in Iran. The included studies reported that acupuncture could alleviate the symptoms of COVID-19 patients, shorten their hospitalization days, and is effective for the elderly. There were no side effects reported. The most frequent acupoints used were LI4, PC6, ST36 and KI3. They reported many obstacles in implementing acupuncture therapy for treating COVID-19 patients. Conclusion Acupuncture has a good effect for the treatment of COVID-19, but high-quality evidence support is still lacking. Coupled with the difficulties that acupuncturists experienced during the process of treatment, the promotion of acupuncture treatment for COVID-19 faces many obstacles. • Weight Loss Correlates with Macrophage Inhibitory Cytokine-1 Expression and Might Influence Outcome in Patients with Advanced Esophageal Squamous Cell Carcinoma

        Lu, Zhi-Hao,Yang, Li,Yu, Jing-Wei,Lu, Ming,Li, Jian,Zhou, Jun,Wang, Xi-Cheng,Gong, Ji-Fang,Gao, Jing,Zhang, Xiao-Tian,Li, Jie,Li, Yan,Shen, Lin Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.15

Background: Weight loss during chemotherapy has not been exclusively investigated. Macrophage inhibitory cytokine-1 (MIC-1) might play a role in its etiology. Here, we investigated the prognostic value of weight loss before chemotherapy and its relationship with MIC-1 concentration and its occurrence during chemotherapy in patients with advanced esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). Materials and Methods: We analyzed 157 inoperable locally advanced or metastatic ESCC patients receiving first-line chemotherapy. Serum MIC-1 concentrations were assessed before chemotherapy. Patients were assigned into two groups according to their weight loss before or during chemotherapy:>5% weight loss group and ${\leq}5%$ weight loss group. Results: Patients with weight loss>5% before chemotherapy had shorter progression-free survival period (5.8 months vs. 8.7 months; p=0.027) and overall survival (10.8 months vs. 20.0 months; p=0.010). Patients with weight loss >5% during chemotherapy tended to have shorter progression-free survival (6.0 months vs. 8.1 months; p=0.062) and overall survival (8.6 months vs. 18.0 months; p=0.022), and if weight loss was reversed during chemotherapy, survival rates improved. Furthermore, serum MIC-1 concentration was closely related to weight loss before chemotherapy (p=0.001) Conclusions: Weight loss both before and during chemotherapy predicted poor outcome in advanced ESCC patients, and MIC-1 might be involved in the development of weight loss in such patients.

      • Neutrophil Count and the Inflammation-based Glasgow Prognostic Score Predict Survival in Patients with Advanced Gastric Cancer Receiving First-line Chemotherapy

        Li, Qing-Qing,Lu, Zhi-Hao,Yang, Li,Lu, Ming,Zhang, Xiao-Tian,Li, Jian,Zhou, Jun,Wang, Xi-Cheng,Gong, Ji-Fang,Gao, Jing,Li, Jie,Li, Yan,Shen, Lin Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.2

Purpose: To explore the value of systemic inflammatory markers as independent prognostic factors and the extent these markers improve prognostic classification for patients with inoperable advanced or metastatic gastric cancer (GC) receiving palliative chemotherapy. Methods: We studied the prognostic value of systemic inflammatory factors such as circulating white blood cell count and its components as well as that combined to form inflammation-based prognostic scores (Glasgow Prognostic Score (GPS), Neutrophil-Lymphocyte Ratio (NLR), Platelet Lymphocyte Ratio (PLR), Prognostic Index (PI) and Prognostic Nutritional Index (PNI)) in 384 patients with inoperable advanced or metastatic gastric cancer (GC) receiving first-line chemotherapy. Univariate and multivariate analyses were performed to examine the impact of inflammatory markers on overall survival (OS). Results: Univariate analysis revealed that an elevated white blood cell, neutrophil and/or platelet count, a decreased lymphocyte count, a low serum albumin concentration, and high CRP concentration, as well as elevated NLR/PLR, GPS, PI, PNI were significant predictors of shorter OS. Multivariate analysis demonstrated that only elevated neutrophil count (HR 3.696, p=0.003) and higher GPS (HR 1.621, p=0.01) were independent predictors of poor OS. Conclusion: This study demonstrated elevated pretreatment neutrophil count and high GPS to be independent predictors of shorter OS in inoperable advanced or metastatic GC patients treated with first-line chemotherapy. Upon validation of these data in independent studies, stratification of patients using these markers in future clinical trials is recommended.

Posttranscriptional deregulation of Src due to aberrant miR34a and miR203 contributes to gastric cancer development

( Qiang Hao ),( Xiao Zhao Lu ),( Nan Nan Liu ),( Xiao Chang Xue ),( Meng Li ),( Cun Zhang ),( Xin Qin ),( Wei Na Li ),( Zhen Shu ),( Bin Song ),( Qing Wang ),( Li Qiang Song ),( Wei Zhang ),( Ying Qi 생화학분자생물학회 2013 BMB Reports Vol.46 No.6

Gastric cancer remains the main cause of cancer death all around the world, and upregulated activation of the nonreceptor tyrosine kinase c-SRC (SRC) is a key player in the development. In this study, we found that expression of Src is also increased in clinical gastric cancer samples, with the protein level increased more significantly than that at the RNA level. Further study revealed that miR34a and miR203, two tumor suppressive miRNAs, inversely correlate with the expression of Src. Restoration of miR34a and miR203 decreased Src expression in gastric cancer cell lines, which in turn inhibited cell growth and cell migration. In summary, our study here revealed that posttranscriptional regulation of Src contributes to the deregulated cell growth and metastasis in gastric cancer, and targeting Src by miR34a or miR203 mimics would be a promising strategy in therapy.

        High-j Proton h11/2 and g7/2 Intruder Bands in 113In

        Ma Ke Yan,Lu Jing Bin,Ma Ying Jun,Li Jian,Yang Dong,Sun Wu Ji,Wang Hao,Pan Hao Nan,Wang Jia Qi,Yang Qing Yu,Zhang Da Ming,Zhu Li Hua,Wu Xiao Guang,Zheng Yun,Li Cong Bo 한국물리학회 2020 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.76 No.12

Excited states of 113In have been populated through the heavy-ion fusion evaporation reaction 110Pd(7Li, 4n)113In. A new band with the configuration of a proton d5/2 orbital is identified. Two ΔI = 2 intruder bands, built on the πh11/2 and the πg7/2 orbitals, have been extended to spins (63/2-)ħ and (55/2+)ħ, respectively. The negative-parity πh11/2 intruder band shows a smooth increase in aligned spin, which is attributed to a strong proton-neutron interaction. The properties of the positive-parity πg7/2 band are discussed based on tilted axis cranking model calculations, and the features of the antimagnetic rotation for this band are shown after backbend. Furthermore, the contributions of the two-shears-like mechanism, the neutron (gd)ν shell and the core rotation are investigated for the positive-parity πg7/2 band.

A High-Throughput Method Based on Microculture Technology for Screening of High-Yield Strains of Tylosin-Producing Streptomyces fradiae

        Yao Zhiming,Fan Jingyan,Dai Jun,Yu Chen,Zeng Han,Li Qingzhi,Hu Wei,Yan Chaoyue,Hao Meilin,Li Haotian,Li Shuo,Liu Jie,Huang Qi,Li Lu,Zhou Rui 한국미생물·생명공학회 2023 Journal of microbiology and biotechnology Vol.33 No.6

Tylosin is a potent veterinary macrolide antibiotic produced by the fermentation of Streptomyces fradiae; however, it is necessary to modify S. fradiae strains to improve tylosin production. In this study, we established a high-throughput, 24-well plate screening method for identifying S. fradiae strains that produce increased yields of tylosin. Additionally, we constructed mutant libraries of S. fradiae via ultraviolet (UV) irradiation and/or sodium nitrite mutagenesis. A primary screening of the libraries in 24-well plates and UV spectrophotometry identified S. fradiae mutants producing increased yields of tylosin. Mutants with tylosin yield 10% higher than the wild-type strain were inoculated into shake flasks, and the tylosin concentrations produced were determined by highperformance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Joint (UV irradiation and sodium nitrite) mutagenesis resulted in higher yields of mutants with enhanced tylosin production. Finally, 10 mutants showing higher tylosin yield were re-screened in shake flasks. The yield of tylosin A by strains UN-C183 (6767.64 ± 82.43 μg/ml) and UN-C137 (6889.72 ± 70.25 μg/ml) was significantly higher than that of the wild-type strain (6617.99 ± 22.67 μg/ml). These mutant strains will form the basis for further strain breeding in tylosin production.

Effects of Cesium Salts on the Electrical Conductivity of the Weakly Ionized Gas in a Hypersonic MHD Channel

        Hao Li,Peng Lu,Hulin Huang,Yining Zhang,Chenyuan Liu 한국항공우주학회 2023 International Journal of Aeronautical and Space Sc Vol.24 No.5

To adequately utilize the high enthalpy of the weakly ionized gas and improve the performance of the magnetohydrodynamic generator (MHDG) in a hypersonic channel, cesium salts are homogeneously injected into the gas at the entrance of the MHD channel for elevating the gas electrical conductivity. The finite rate chemical dynamics and multi-species electrical conductivity model for seven-species (N2, O2, N, O, NO, NO+, e−) were adopted to simulate the electrical conductivity of the weakly ionized gas under different magnetic fields. The results demonstrate that the electrical conductivity of the weakly ionized gas with cesium salts is significantly higher than that without cesium salts due to two positive contributions of cesium salts, one is that a portion cesium atom ionize much more electrons, and the second is that cesium salts reduce the activation energy of N + O <-> NO + e− by 3.5 times, which accelerates the production rate of electrons. The electrical conductivity of the gas with cesium salts is decreased monotonically along the flow direction, which is contrary to the trend of that without cesium salts. The variation of the collision frequency plays a crucial role in the electrical conductivity of the gas without cesium salts, nevertheless, this effect is marginal on the gas with cesium salts. The magnetic fields have negative impacts on the electrical conductivity of the gas with/without cesium salts. Additionally, the MHDG power generation efficiency is augmented with B for the gas with cesium salts, whereas the trend is reversed for that without cesium salts.

Laser-activatable Oxygen Self-supplying Nanoplatform for Efficiently Overcoming Colorectal Cancer Resistance by Enhanced Ferroptosis and Alleviated Hypoxic Microenvironment

        Hao Jiang,Hailong Tian,Zhihan Wang,Bowen Li,Rui Chen,Kangjia Luo,Shuaijun Lu,Edouard C. Nice,Wei Zhang,Canhua Huang,Yuping Zhou,Shaojiang Zheng,Feng Gao 한국생체재료학회 2023 생체재료학회지 Vol.27 No.00

Background Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the second most deadly cancer worldwide, with chemo-resistance remaining a major obstacle in CRC treatment. Notably, the imbalance of redox homeostasis-mediated ferroptosis and the modulation of hypoxic tumor microenvironment are regarded as new entry points for overcoming the chemo-resistance of CRC. Methods Inspired by this, we rationally designed a light-activatable oxygen self-supplying chemo-photothermal nanoplatform by co-assembling cisplatin (CDDP) and linoleic acid (LA)-tailored IR820 via enhanced ferroptosis against colorectal cancer chemo-resistance. In this nanoplatform, CDDP can produce hydrogen peroxide in CRC cells through a series of enzymatic reactions and subsequently release oxygen under laser-triggered photothermal to alleviate hypoxia. Additionally, the introduced LA can add exogenous unsaturated fatty acids into CRC cells, triggering ferroptosis via oxidative stress-related peroxidized lipid accumulation. Meanwhile, photothermal can efficiently boost the rate of enzymatic response and local blood flow, hence increasing the oxygen supply and oxidizing LA for enhanced ferroptosis. Results This nanoplatform exhibited excellent anti-tumor efficacy in chemo-resistant cell lines and showed potent inhibitory capability in nude mice xenograft models. Conclusions Taken together, this nanoplatform provides a promising paradigm via enhanced ferroptosis and alleviated hypoxia tumor microenvironment against CRC chemo-resistance.

Spectrally-Efficient Decode-and-Forward Scheme Based on Constellation Rotation

        Li Sun,Taiyi Zhang,Hao Niu,Long Lu 한국전자통신연구원 2010 ETRI Journal Vol.32 No.4

A spectrally-efficient scheme is proposed for orthogonal decode-and-forward relaying. By utilizing constellation rotation, the scheme can achieve twice the spectral efficiency as that of the conventional one, with low implementation complexity. It can offer a full diversity order as well, whereas the loss in coding gain is less than 1 dB for practical environments.
