BOUNDARIES FOR AN ALGEBRA OF BOUNDED HOLOMORPHIC FUNCTIONS

        Moraes, L.A.,Grados, L.-Romero Korean Mathematical Society 2004 대한수학회지 Vol.41 No.1

Let $A_b(B_E)$ be the Banach algebra of all complex valued bounded continuous functions on the closed unit ball $B_E$ of a complex Banach space E, and holomorphic in the interior of $B_E$, endowed with the sup norm. We present some sufficient conditions for a set to be a boundary for $A_b(B_E)$ in case E belongs to a class of Banach spaces that includes the pre-dual of a Lorentz sequence space studied by Gowers in [6]. We also prove the non-existence of the Shilov boundary for $A_b(B_E)$ and give some examples of boundaries.

On the Security Aspects of Internet of Things: A Systematic Literature Review

        Evandro L. C. Macedo,Egberto A. R. de Oliveira,Fabio H. Silva,Rui R. Mello Jr,Felipe M. G. França,Flavia C. Delicato,José F. de Rezende,Luís F. M. de Moraes 한국통신학회 2019 Journal of communications and networks Vol.21 No.5

Internet of Things (IoT) has gained increasing visibilityamong emerging technologies and undoubtedly changing our dailylife. Its adoption is strengthened by the growth of connected devices(things) as shown in recent statistics. However, as the numberof connected things grows, responsibility related to security aspectsalso needs to increase. For instance, cyberattacks might happenif simple authentication mechanisms are not implemented on IoTapplications, or if access control mechanisms are weakly defined. Considering the relevance of the subject, we performed a systematicliterature review (SLR) to identify and synthesize security issuesin IoT discussed in scientific papers published within a periodof 8 years. Our literature review focused on four main security aspects, namely authentication, access control, data protection, andtrust. We believe that a study considering these topics has the potentialto reveal important opportunities and trends related to IoTsecurity. In particular, we aim to identify open issues and technologicaltrends that might guide future studies in this field, thusproviding useful material both to researchers and to managers anddevelopers of IoT systems. In this paper, we describe the protocoladopted to perform the SLR and present the state-of-the-art on thefield by describing the main techniques reported in the retrievedstudies. To the best of our knowledge, ours is the first study tocompile information on a comprehensive set of security aspects inIoT. Moreover, we discuss the placement, in terms of architecturaltiers, for deploying security techniques, in an attempt to provideguidelines to help design decisions of security solution developers. We summarize our results showing security trends and researchgaps that can be explored in future studies.

Influence on SERS enhancement factor of the components of an artificial opal loaded with metal NPs: A systematic study

De León Portilla P.,Sánchez-Mora E.,González A.L. 한국물리학회 2022 Current Applied Physics Vol.39 No.-

We have inquired about the influence of composite artificial opal components on its SERS enhancement factor (EF). Particularly, we considered metal (100 nm) and dielectric spheres (290 nm), and an excitation wavelength of 632 nm. We show that the electric field of a SiO2 sphere is weaker and more uniform as its porosity increases. Additionally, a porous sphere promotes a lower EF compared to that of a non-porous sphere. The optical response of the composite opal is insensitive to the polarization state of the incident field. A SERS EF of 104 is reachable with an opal loaded with Au or Ag NPs. In general, the dielectric spheres affect the SERS EF intensity of the metal NPs. From the optical spectra, we observed that with a 632 nm wavelength, the composite opal is out of resonance.

A Potential Role of Cholinergic Dysfunction on Impaired Colon Motility in Experimental Intestinal Chagas Disease

        Mayra F Ricci,Samantha R Béla,Joana L Barbosa,Michele M Moraes,Ana L Mazzeti,Maria T Bahia,Laila S Horta,Helton da C Santiago,Jader S Cruz,Luciano dos S A Capettini,Rosa M E Arantes 대한소화기 기능성질환·운동학회 2022 Journal of Neurogastroenterology and Motility (JNM Vol.28 No.3

Background/AimsChagasic megacolon is caused by Trypanosoma cruzi, which promotes in several cases, irreversible segmental colonic dilation. This alteration is the major anatomic-clinical disorder, characterized by the enteric nervous system and muscle wall structural damage. Herein, we investigate how T. cruzi -induced progressive colonic structural changes modulate the colonic contractile pattern activity. MethodsWe developed a murine model of T. cruzi-infection that reproduced long-term modifications of the enlarged colon. We evaluated colonic and total intestinal transit time in animals. The patterns of motor response at several time intervals between the acute and chronic phases were evaluated using the organ bath assays. Enteric motor neurons were stimulated by electric field stimulation. The responses were analyzed in the presence of the nicotinic and muscarinic acetylcholine receptor antagonists. Western blot was performed to evaluate the expression of nicotinic and muscarinic receptors. The neurotransmitter expression was analyzed by real-time polymerase chain reaction. ResultsIn the chronic phase of infection, there was decreased intestinal motility associated with decreased amplitude and rhythmicity of intestinal contractility. Pharmacological tests suggested a defective response mediated by acetylcholine receptors. The contractile response induced by acetylcholine was decreased by atropine in the acute phase while the lack of its action in the chronic phase was associated with tissue damage, and decreased expression of choline acetyltransferase, nicotinic subunits of acetylcholine receptors, and neurotransmitters. ConclusionsT. cruzi -induced damage of smooth muscles was accompanied by motility disorders such as decreased intestinal peristalsis and cholinergic system response impairment. This study allows integration of the natural history of Chagasic megacolon motility disorders and opens new perspectives for the design of effective therapeutic.

Monitoring of E. coli Immobilization on Modified Gold Electrode: A New Bacteria-based Glucose Sensor

        N. Borghol,A. Othmane,L. Mora,T. Jouenne,A. C. Duncan,N. Jaffézic-Renault,N. Sakly,Y. Chevalier,P. Lejeune 한국생물공학회 2010 Biotechnology and Bioprocess Engineering Vol.15 No.2

Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS)technique has proved to be an effective method for monitoring the immobilization of various bioactive species such as enzymes, DNA, whole cells, and so forth. In this work we describe the development of an electrochemical whole cell based biosensor. Biotinylated fluorescent E. coli are immobilized onto a cysteamine, Sulfo-NHS-LC-biotin,and avidin modified gold electrodes. Immobilized bacteria are clearly observed using confocal microscopy. Electrochemical measurements are based on the charge-transfer kinetics of [Fe (CN)6]3−/4− redox couple. The experimental impedance data were modelised with a computer. SAM assembly and the subsequent immobilization of bacteria on the gold bare electrodes greatly increased the electrontransfer resistance (Ret) and reduced the constant phase element (CPE). It’s interesting to note, the hard immobilization of bacteria on the surface of electrode and do not remove during measurements. The effect of glucose addition was studied in the range of 10−7 μM to 10 μM. The relation between the evolution of Ret and D-glucose concentration was found to be linear for values ranging from 10−5 μM to 10−1 μM and reached saturation for higher concentrations. Such biosensor could be applied to a more fundamental study of cell metabolism and drugs effect.

Differences in Caco-2 Cell Attachment, Migration on Collagen and Fibronectin Coated Polyelectrolyte Surfaces

        N. Zanina,L. Mora,A. Othmane,M. Bénard,A. Duncan,T. Jouenne,D. Vaudry,M. Souiri 한국생물공학회 2013 Biotechnology and Bioprocess Engineering Vol.18 No.1

Metastasis mechanisms depend on cell metabolism changes, migration and adhesion to different tissues. To understand their choice of interaction site, the tumoral cell adhesion to model surfaces was studied. The response of Caco-2 tumoral cells cultured on polyelectrolyte filmfunctionalized surfaces with or without adhesion proteins (fibronectin or collagen IV) was analyzed. Using the layerby-layer method, multilayer films were prepared with cationic poly(allylamine hydrochloride) and anionic poly(sodium 4-styrenesulfonate) polyelectrolytes. Film surface wettability was evaluated. The electrochemical impedance spectroscopy analyses were carried out to control the elaborated surfaces on which Caco-2 tumoral cells were cultured. The cell velocity was studied by video-microscopy and a cell colorimetric assay (WST-1) was used to quantify cell viability. The film surface parameters as well as the protein nature and localization in the film were found to modulate cell response. Results demonstrated that the cancer cell motility and proliferation were higher when cultured onto pure collagen located above the polyelectrolyte film and that the reverse surprisingly was observed when proteins were inserted into the polyelectrolyte film. Data also showed that cell motility was correlated with a high charge transfer resistance (Rct) and a low surface free energy (SFE)polar component (electron donor character). This relationship was valid only for pure external proteins. Thus, fibronectin exhibited a low Rct and a high SFE polar component, which decreased cell motility and proliferation.

Occurrence of Squash yellow mild mottle virus and Pepper golden mosaic virus in Potential New Hosts in Costa Rica

        Ruth M. Castro,Lisela Moreira,María R. Rojas,Eduardo Hernández,Floribeth Mora,Pilar Ramírez,Robert L. Gilbertson 한국식물병리학회 2013 Plant Pathology Journal Vol.29 No.3

Leaf samples of Solanum lycopersicum, Capsicum annuum,Cucurbita moschata, Cucurbita pepo, Sechium edule and Erythrina spp. were collected. All samples were positive for begomoviruses using polymerase chain reaction and degenerate primers. A sequence of ~1,100 bp was obtained from the genomic component DNA-A of 14 samples. In addition, one sequence of ~580 bp corresponding to the coat protein (AV1) was obtained from a chayote (S. edule) leaf sample. The presence of Squash yellow mild mottle virus (SYMMoV) and Pepper golden mosaic virus (PepGMV) were confirmed. The host range reported for SYMMoV includes species of the Cucurbitaceae,Caricaceae and Fabaceae families. This report extends the host range of SYMMoV to include the Solanaceae family, and extends the host range of PepGMV to include C. moschata, C. pepo and the Fabaceae Erythrina spp. This is the first report of a begomovirus (PepGMV)infecting chayote in the Western Hemisphere.

Autologous processed plasma: cytokine profile and effects upon injection into healthy equine joints

        Juliana J. Moreira,Ana Paula L. Moraes,Patrícia M. Brossi,Thaís S.L. Machado,Yara M. Michelacci,Cristina O. Massoco,Raquel Y.A. Baccarin 대한수의학회 2015 Journal of Veterinary Science Vol.16 No.1

This experimental controlled study was performed to evaluate the composition of autologous processed plasma (APP), and the effects of APPintra-articular injection into healthy equine metacarpophalangeal joints. The effects on joints were analysed with a short-phase protocol anda prolonged-phase protocol using saline-injected joints as controls. For the short protocol, horses received one intra-articular APP injection. Synovial fluid samples were collected prior to the injection and 3, 6, 24, 48, and 16 h after treatment. For the prolonged protocol, the jointsreceived three weekly injections of APP, and samples were collected at 0, 7, 14, 21, and 28 days before APP administration. IL1-ra level wasfound to be increased in APP compared to plasma. Upon intra-articular administration of APP, transient (up to 24 h) increases in white bloodcell (WBC) counts along with elevated protein and prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) concentrations were observed in the treated joints. Over the 28-dayobservation period, APP did not elicit changes relative to baseline levels, but WBC counts, PGE2 and chondroitin sulphate concentrationswere lower than those found in the control. In conclusion, APP intra-articular injection induced a mild and transitory inflammatory responsebut no inflammation reaction was observed over a longer period of treatment and observation.
