<P>Clinically, acute kidney injury (AKI) episodes in diabetes mellitus (DM) patients are associated with a cumulative risk of developing end-stage renal disease. In this study, we asked whether the severity of AKI induced by renal ischemia-reperfusion injury (IRI) is more prominent in DM than in non-DM control using a cynomolgus monkey (<I>Macaca fascicularis)</I> model. We also investigated whether human bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (hBM-MSCs) infused via the renal artery could ameliorate renal IRI in DM monkeys. The experimental data, including mortality rate, histologic findings, and urinary albumin secretion indicate that the severity of AKI was greater in DM monkeys than in control animals. Moreover, histological findings and qRT-PCR analysis of <I>Ngal</I> mRNA in renal biopsy tissue showed that hBM-MSC promoted the recovery of tubular damage caused by AKI. Serum analysis also revealed that the level of albumin and ALT was increased 24 and 48 hours after AKI, respectively, suggesting that AKI induced acute liver injury. We suggest that this nonhuman primate model could provide essential information about the renal and nonrenal impairment related to DM and help determine the clinical usefulness of MSCs in AKI.</P>

Lee, Joon-Ho,Lee, Taeheon,Lee, Hak-Kyo,Cho, Byung-Wook,Shin, Dong-Hyun,Do, Kyoung-Tag,Sung, Samsun,Kwak, Woori,Kim, Hyeon Jeong,Kim, Heebal,Cho, Seoae,Park, Kyung-Do Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 2014 Animal Bioscience Vol.27 No.9
Genetics is important for breeding and selection of horses but there is a lack of well-established horse-related browsers or databases. In order to better understand horses, more variants and other integrated information are needed. Thus, we construct a horse genomic variants database including expression and other information. Horse Single Nucleotide Polymorphism and Expression Database (HSDB) (http://snugenome2.snu.ac.kr/HSDB) provides the number of unexplored genomic variants still remaining to be identified in the horse genome including rare variants by using population genome sequences of eighteen horses and RNA-seq of four horses. The identified single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) were confirmed by comparing them with SNP chip data and variants of RNA-seq, which showed a concordance level of 99.02% and 96.6%, respectively. Moreover, the database provides the genomic variants with their corresponding transcriptional profiles from the same individuals to help understand the functional aspects of these variants. The database will contribute to genetic improvement and breeding strategies of Thoroughbreds.

Heritabilities and genetic correlations of economic traits were estimated with a multiple-trait animal model on 5 different strains of Korea Native Chickens (KNC): Red Brown (RB), Yellow Brown (YB), Gray Brown (GB), Black (B) and White (W). The data used for this study were collected from the Daejeon branch of the National Livestock Research Institute and included 11,233 performance records and 12,729 individual animals. DFREML and SAS BASE/STAT packages were used to estimate genetic parameters and descriptive statistics. The estimated heritabilities for strain RB, YB, GB, B and W, respectively, for age at 1st egg were 0.24, 0.27, 0.12, 0.32 and 0.18; for body weight at first egg were 0.39, 0.43, 0.38, 0.52 and 0.57; for body weight at age of 270 days were 0.43, 0.51, 0.30, 0.52 and 0.67; for egg weight at first egg were 0.08, 0.13, 0.07, 0.06 and 0.07; for egg weight at age of 270 days were 0.37, 0.43, 0.22, 0.34 and 0.41; and for number of eggs laid by age of 270 days were 0.24, 0.25, 0.37, 0.36 and 0.30. The genetic and phenotypic correlations were also estimated.
An analysis on Open Source Software Service Level Evaluation using BSEM
Seung-Chang Lee,Hoon-Sung Park,Eung-Kyo Suh 한국유통과학회 2015 KODISA ICBE (International Conference on Business Vol.2015 No.-
Lee et al. (2015) proposed multi purposed evaluation model named Behavior-Structure-Evolution Evaluation Model(BSEM) for the purpose of proposing evaluation framework for open source software service companies based on general corporate valuation model. The evaluation model is composed of three factors. First, enterprise service level of Open source software is divided by Service Area, Service domain and Service Activity. Second, technical reference model of Open source software is divided by Service Area, Open source software technical Domain, Technical Sub-Domain, Open Source Software Name. Third, index of evaluation level is divided by evaluation group, evaluation domain and evaluation item. Therefore, main purpose of this study is to applying BSEM for OSS service companies to adaptability, expandability and objectivity of BSEM. We chose 2 out of 290 OSS service companies and they offer operating system and Database management system services. We applied Technology Reference Model(TRM) for technical domain. At last we applied 21 evaluation indexes for measuring each service level. Also we measured service weight by OSS experts and applied for BSEM model. After whole evaluation indexes are calculated BSEM suggested final service level by showing alphabet from AAA to D and BSEM affords the detailed service level for BSEM user.
Estrogen Receptor α Regulates Dlx3-Mediated Osteoblast Differentiation
Lee, Sung Ho,Oh, Kyo-Nyeo,Han, Younho,Choi, You Hee,Lee, Kwang-Youl Korean Society for Molecular and Cellular Biology 2016 Molecules and cells Vol.39 No.2
Estrogen receptor ${\alpha}$ (ER-${\alpha}$), which is involved in bone metabolism and breast cancer, has been shown to have transcriptional targets. Dlx3 is essential for the skeletal development and plays an important role in osteoblast differentiation. Various osteogenic stimulators and transcription factors can induce the protein expression of Dlx3. However, the regulatory function of ER-${\alpha}$ in the Dlx3 mediated osteogenic process remains unknown. Therefore, we investigated the regulation of Dlx3 and found that ER-${\alpha}$ is a positive regulator of Dlx3 transcription in BMP2-induced osteoblast differentiation. We also found that ER-${\alpha}$ interacts with Dlx3 and increases its transcriptional activity and DNA binding affinity. Furthermore, we demonstrated that the regulation of Dlx3 activity by ER-${\alpha}$ is independent of the ligand (estradiol) binding domain. These results indicate that Dlx3 is a novel target of ER-${\alpha}$, and that ER-${\alpha}$ regulates the osteoblast differentiation through modulation of Dlx3 expression and/or interaction with Dlx3.

<P>We report two types of signal enhancement strategy derived from the origin of mechanical response, surface stress and mass, of the dynamic mode microcantilever for the detection of PSA at low picogram scales (low femtomolar concentration). The PSA detection at extremely low concentration levels is crucial to the early detection of relapses of prostate cancer after the radical prostatectomy and the detection of breast cancer in patient's serum. There is a clear need for the ultrasensitive detection of PSA <I>via</I> simple and rapid diagnostic tools. From the motives, to increase the sensitivity of the microcantilever, PSA polyclonal antibody (PSA pAb) as an additional surface stress inducer and PSA polyclonal antibody-conjugated silica nanoparticles (pAb-SiNPs) as a mass inducer have been applied to the PSA-captured microcantilevers. From two types of sandwich assay, we could confirm the sensitivity enhancement effects (2∼4 times enhanced at the same concentrations) enough to detect PSA at low picogram levels (LOD of 1 pg/mL or below). Moreover, surface stress due to steric interactions between epitope-specific monoclonal antibodies was assessed to support a signal amplification strategy by stress inducer, and the reduction of signal enhancement due to stiffness increase by the mass inducer was studied to clarify the sensitivity enhancement of the microcantilever by mass inducer.</P> <P>Graphic Abstract</P><P>We present two types of signal enhancement strategy derived from the origins of mechanical response, surface stress and mass, of the dynamic mode microcantilever for the PSA detection at low picogram levels. <IMG SRC='http://pubs.rsc.org/services/images/RSCpubs.ePlatform.Service.FreeContent.ImageService.svc/ImageService/image/GA?id=b902922b'> </P>
