Around a decade has passed since the 2008 revision to the Course of Study (national curriculum of Japan) for Japanese school education, and the time for updating the Course of Study is approaching again. This article aims to describe basic structures and characteristics of the new national curriculum of Japan, which is summed up in 2017, from perspective of promoting more interdisciplinary learning. The “Summary of Issues (Ronten Seiri)” in 2015 argued a crucial theme of the curriculum reform is “visualization of the overall structure and structuring” of the curriculum and each subject functions as part of an organic structure. In this article points out two methods for linking individual subjects and integrated learning. One is “linking by content” in that content is selected where overlapped between integrated learning and the individual subject, and the other one is “perspective approach” that is unique to each subject and is developed in accordance with the characteristics of each subject is used to make the link. In the conclusion the author summarize that the new national curriculum in Japan targets competency-oriented learning model to reframe school education at all stages from early childhood to secondary education.
Finite Small Clauses in Japanese and Their Theoretical Implications

This paper investigates the internal structure of finite small clauses (FSC). I will propose that a FSC is base-generated at Spec-CP and a null operator is involved to check the formal features of the embedded T and turn a sentence into a predicate.

Cell glycome is defined by the glyco synthesis machinery regulated by harmonized expression of more than 100 glycogenes. The machinery-dependent glycome drastically shifts during cell progression and differentiation in association with tumorigenesis and malformation, and thus it motivates us to discover the disease-related alteration in glycosylation. Glycan-targeted histochemical approaches using lectin and anti-glycogene antibodies have provided some key information to characterize specific histological types of cells in pathology. However, this approach is not suitable for the comprehensive analysis targeting the cell glycome, and thus may fail to provide insight into glycome shift during the disease progression. Several years ago, we developed the methodology for rapid and systematic glycome shift analysis targeting formalin-fixed tissue specimens by means of lectin microarray. The resultant method enabled simultaneous observation of over 40 lectins interacted with glycoproteins in 1 mm2 of the tissue specimens. Recently, we sophisticated this methodology to be suitable for comparative analysis of a series of cells in specific groups isolated from a single tissue specimen by laser microdissection, and now our research has gained interest in the variability and distribution of cell glycome in the tissue, i.e., “tissue glycome mapping”. In this meeting, we will summarize the advantage of this new methodology and its application for glyco-biomarker discovery, as well as the construction of “tissue glycome atlas”.
The Study of Chiropractic Care on Improving the Posture of Senior Citizens

The average life expectancy in Japan has increased. Senior citizens with excessive curvature in the thoracic spine (kyphosis) and forward head posture have decreased their ability to maintain their balance and this can be one of the causes of falling down by accidents. In many cases, postures and health conditions including quality of life of senior citizens have remarkably improved through daily chiropractic treatment. Chiropractic care can be a good model to show how preventive medicine can benefit senior citizens. This study will show the postures of elderly people of 60 years or more improved with chiropractic treatments and care. Measurements of head tilt and knee tilt on lateral views were documented for comparisons. The results showed an overall increase in height of a patient due to a decrease of head and knee tilt.
Future experimental improvement for the search of lepton-number-violating processes in the eμ sector

<P>The conservation of lepton flavor and total lepton number are no longer guaranteed in the Standard Model after the discovery of neutrino oscillations. The mu(-)+ N(A, Z) -> e(+) N(A, Z - 2) conversion in a muonic atom is one of the most promising channels to investigate the lepton number violation processes, and measurement of the mu(-) e(+) conversion is planned in future, mu(-) - e(-) conversion experiments with a muonic atom in a muon-stopping target. This article discusses experimental strategies to maximize the sensitivity of the mu(-) - e(+) conversion experiment by introducing the new requirement of the mass relation of M(A, Z - 2) < M(A, Z - 1), where M(A, Z) is the mass of the muon-stopping target nucleus, to eliminate the backgrounds from radiative muon capture. The sensitivity of the mu(-) - e(+) conversion is expected to be improved by 4 orders of magnitude in forthcoming experiments using a proper target nucleus that satisfies the mass relation. The most promising isotopes found are Ca-40 and S-32.</P>
Catalytic Behavior of Silyl-Amide Complexes for Lactide Polymerization

A series of silyl-amide complexes (=M{N(SiMe3)2}2) were examined as the catalysts for the ring-opening polymerization (ROP) of L-lactide. The catalytic activity of the silyl-amide complexes for zinc was compared with that of the silyl-amide complexes of tin in order to clarify the structural effects on the catalytic behavior. In the tin complexes, the addition of 1-dodecanol made the polymerization rate of L-lactide faster and suppressed the initiation with the N(SiMe3)2 ligands. The 1H NMR analysis revealed that the rates of ligand exchange for the N(SiMe3)2 and 1-dodecanol are different between the zinc and tin complexes. Based on this finding, melt polymerizations of L-lactide was conducted with the zinc catalyst to synthesize high-molecular-weight poly(L-lactide). The Mn of the obtained polymer was found to become higher than 60,000 Da, which is required for the industrial application of polylactide,in a short reaction time.
