Structural, magnetic and optical properties of diluted magnetic semiconductor (DMS) phase of Ni modified CuO nanoparticles

        Kumar Arvind,Kumar Manish,Chandra Sati Prakash,Srivastava Manish Kumar,Ghosh Surajit,Kumar Shiv 한국물리학회 2021 Current Applied Physics Vol.32 No.-

Control on the size of copper oxide (CuO) in the nano range is a highly motivating approach to study its multifunctional nature. The present investigation reports a sol-gel derived Ni doped CuO nanoparticles (Cu1- xNixO). Rietveld refinement of the XRD spectra confirms the formation of single monoclinic phase of Cu1-xNixO nanoparticles having crystallite size within the range of 19–21 nm. Raman spectra show the presence of characteristics Raman active modes and vibrational bands in the Cu1-xNixO samples that corroborate the monoclinic phase of the samples as revealed by refinement of XRD data. The estimated band gap of pure CuO is found to be ~1.43 eV, which decreases with the increase of dopant concentration into CuO matrix. This result is in line with estimated crystallite size. Magnetization curves confirm the weak ferromagnetic nature of Cu1-xNixO nanoparticles which reveal the DMS phase. This weak magnetic nature may be induced in the samples due to the exchange interaction between the localized magnetic d-spins of Ni ions and carriers (holes or electrons) from the valence band of pristine CuO lattice. Replacement of Cu+2 by Ni+2 ions into the host CuO lattice induces the magnetization. The quantified value of squareness ratio (S < 0.5) confirms the inter-grain magnetic interactions in the Cu1-xNixO nanoparticles which is also the reason of weak induced magnetization.

Antioxidant and Antimicrobial Efficacy of Sapota Powder in Pork Patties Stored under Different Packaging Conditions

        Pavan Kumar,Manish Kumar Chatli,Nitin Mehta,Om Prakash Malav,Akhilesh Kumar Verma,Devendra Kumar,Manjeet Rathour 한국축산식품학회 2018 한국축산식품학회지 Vol.38 No.3

The present study was undertaken to assess the efficacy of sapota powder (SP) as natural preservatives and its better utilization in food processing with the incorporation of various levels of SP (2, 4, and 6%) by replacing lean meat. Based on the sensory attributes, pork patties with 4% incorporation of SP was found optimum and selected for further storage studies with control under aerobic and modified atmosphere packaging at refrigeration temperature (4±1℃) for 42 days for assessing its antioxidant and antimicrobial efficiency. During entire storage period, indicators of lipid oxidative parameters such as thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS), free fatty acids (FFA) and peroxide value (PV) followed an increasing trend for control as well as treated products; however, treated product showed a significantly (p<0.05) lower value than control. A significantly lower (p<0.05) microbial count in treated patties than control was noted during entire storage. The sensory attributes are better retained in treated product as compared to control and even on 42nd day, overall acceptability of treated patties was found to fall in moderately acceptable category (5.95 in aerobic packets and 5.91 in modified atmosphere packets). Therefore SP has potential to enhance antioxidant and antimicrobial properties of pork patties during storage.

Change in Community Composition and Soil Carbon Stock Along Transitional Boundary in a Sub-Tropical Forest of Garhwal Himalaya

        Kumar, Munesh,Kumar, Manish,Saleem, Sajid,Prasad, Sunil,Rajwar, G.S. Institute of Forest Science 2013 Journal of Forest Science Vol.29 No.3

The aim of the present study was to assess the effect of transitional boundary on community composition and soil carbon stock. Five vegetation types were recognized horizontally along the transitional strip based on the dominance of tree species i.e., Pure Anogeissus latifolia forest (P.AL), mixed Pinus roxburghii and Lannea coromandelica forest (M.PR&LC), pure Pinus roxburghii forest (P.PR), mixed Pinus roxburghii and Lannea coromandelica (M.PR&LC) and pure Anogeissus latifolia forest (P.AL). The results revealed that Anogeissus latifolia was reported dominant tree in the outer transitional boundaries of the forest, which reduced dominance of trees towards middle where Pinus roxburghii was found dominant. The soil carbon stock was reported higher in the Anogeissus latifolia dominant forest and reduced with the dominance of Pinus roxburghii in the middle site. Both the species are growing close to one another and competing for survival, but the aggressive nature of Anogeissus latifolia particular in this region may change new growth of Pinus roxburghii and will enhance soil carbon stock. But high anthropogenic pressure on Anogeissus latifolia tree species could be limited chance to further its flourish.

Optimization of Streptomyces bacteriophage φC31 integrase system to prevent post integrative gene silencing in pulmonary type II cells

        Manish Kumar Aneja,Johannes Geiger,Rabea Imker,Senta Üzgün,Michael Kormann,Guenther Hasenpusch,Christof Maucksch,Carsten Rudolph 생화학분자생물학회 2009 Experimental and molecular medicine Vol.41 No.12

φC31 integrase has emerged as a potent tool for achieving long-term gene expression in different tissues. The present study aimed at optimizing elements of φC31 integrase system for alveolar type II cells. Luciferase and β-galactosidase activities were measured at different time points post transfection. 5-Aza-2’deoxycytidine (AZA) and trichostatin A (TSA) were used to inhibit DNA methyltransferase and histone deacetylase complex (HDAC) respectively. In A549 cells, expression of the integrase using a CMV promoter resulted in highest integrase activity, whereas in MLE12 cells, both CAG and CMV promoter were equally effective. Effect of polyA site was observed only in A549 cells, where replacement of SV40 polyA by bovine growth hormone (BGH) polyA site resulted in an enhancement of integrase activity. Addition of a C-terminal SV40 nuclear localization signal (NLS) did not result in any significant increase in integrase activity. Long-term expression studies with AZA and TSA, provided evidence for post-integrative gene silencing. In MLE12 cells, both DNA methylases and HDACs played a significant role in silencing, whereas in A549 cells, it could be attributed majorly to HDAC activity. Donor plasmids comprising cellular promoters ubiquitin B (UBB), ubiquitin C (UCC) and elongation factor 1α (EF1α) in an improved backbone prevented post-integrative gene silencing. In contrast to A549 and MLE12 cells, no silencing could be observed in human bronchial epithelial cells, BEAS-2B. Donor plasmid coding for murine erythropoietin under the EF1α promoter when combined with φC31 integrase resulted in higher long-term erythropoietin expression and subsequently higher hematocrit levels in mice after intravenous delivery to the lungs. These results provide evidence for cell specific post integrative gene silencing with φC31 integrase and demonstrate the pivotal role of donor plasmid in long-term expression attained with this system. φC31 integrase has emerged as a potent tool for achieving long-term gene expression in different tissues. Techniques for Formulation of Nanoemulsion Drug Delivery System: A Review

Manish Kumar,Ram Singh Bishnoi,Ajay Kumar Shukla,Chandra Prakash Jain 한국식품영양과학회 2019 Preventive Nutrition and Food Science Vol.24 No.3

Nanoemulsion drug delivery systems are advanced modes for delivering and improving the bioavailability of hydrophobic drugs and the drug which have high first pass metabolism. The nanoemulsion can be prepared by both high energy and low energy methods. High energy method includes high-pressure homogenization, microfluidization, and ultrasonication whereas low energy methods include the phase inversion emulsification method and the self-nanoemulsification method. Low energy methods should be preferred over high energy methods as these methods require less energy, so are more efficient and do not require any sophisticated instruments. However high energy methods are more favorable for food grade emulsion as they require lower quantities of surfactant than low energy methods. Techniques for formulation of nanoemulsion drug delivery system are overlapping in nature, especially in the case of low energy methods. In this review, we have classified different methods for formulation of nanoemulsion systems based on energy requirements, nature of phase inversion, and self-emulsification.

Effect of Ti:ZnO Layer on the Phase Transition and the Optical Properties of VO2 Film

Manish Kumar,Sunita Rani,이현휘 한국물리학회 2019 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.75 No.7

VO$_2$ single-layer and VO$_2$/Ti:ZnO bilayer thin film samples were stabilized on quartz substrates by using sputtering technique, and their structural, morphological and optical properties were investigated. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) results confirmed that VO$_2$ stabilized in the monoclinic structure in both the samples. Temperature-dependent XRD results demonstrated that the monoclinic-to-rutile structural phase transition temperature had shifted in bilayer sample as compared to VO$_2$ single-layer sample. A uniform surface morphology was realized in both samples, as shown by atomic force microscopy. UV-vis spectroscopy results revealed a significant improvement in the optical transmission in the VO$_2$/Ti:ZnO bilayer thin-film sample. Improved visible transmittance of bilayer sample identifies it as a good candidate for smart window applications.
