Ion-pair formation for nitrous oxide was studied by using time-of-flight mass spectrometry coupled to linearly polarized synchrotron radiation in the range from 35 to 130 eV. At critical ion detection angles of 0˚, 55˚, and 90˚ with respect to the beam polarization, the ratios of the intensities for photoion-photoion coincidences (PIPICO) were measured as a function of the incident photon energy. The anisotropic angular distributions of the PIPICO intensities are interpreted as being due to molecular photofragmentation related to the symmetry and dynamics of the dissociation processes.

The dissociative photoionization of nitrous oxide in the valence excitation/ionization region has been studied by using time-of-flight mass spectrometry coupled to linearly polarized synchrotron radiation in the range of 15 $\sim$ 36 eV. At critical ion detection angles of ${\rm 0^\circ}$, ${\rm 55^\circ}$ and ${\rm 90^\circ}$ with respect to the beam polarization, the ratios of the integrated intensities for fragment ions to that for the parent ion ${\rm N_2O^+}$ have been recorded as a function of the incident photon energy. Only the ratios of ${I_{\rm N^+}/I_{\rm N_2O^+}}$ and ${I_{\rm O^+}/I_{\rm N_2O^+}}$ measured at ${\rm 0^\circ}$ in the range from 25 to 34 eV are found to be larger than those obtained at angles of ${\rm 55^\circ}$ and ${\rm 90^\circ}$. The anisotropic angular distribution of the fragment ions is interpreted as being due to molecular photofragmentation related to the symmetry and the dynamics of the dissociation processes.

The photoionization of SiCl_4 has been investigated in the valence and Si:2p inner-shell region using time-of-flight mass spectrometry and synchrotron rediation in the range 38-133 eV. Ion yields and branching ratios are reports for charge species arising from the dissociative photpionization processes. Various monocations such as Cl^+, Cl_2^+, and SiCl_n^+(n=0-4) are observed together with doubly charged species such as Si^2+, Cl^2+. The photoion -photoion coincidence(PIPICP) technique has been employed to investigate a variety of dissociation processes via Coulomb explosion and to elucidate the dissociation mechanisms. Ion pairs of Si^+ +Cl^+ and SiCl^+ +Cl^+ are observed dominantly in the Si:2p edge. Variation of the ionic fragmentation as a function of photon energy is discussed in conjunction with the relevant electronic states.
