Deuteration-induced Ferromagnetic Metallic Properties in R7Rh3Dx (R = Tb, Dy)
Koji Shimomura,Takanori Tsutaoka,Stanislaw M. Filipek,Ryutaro Sato 한국물리학회 2013 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.63 No.3
The magnetic and the electrical properties of the R7Rh3 deuterides Tb7Rh3D27 and Dy7Rh3D27have been studied by measuring the magnetization, magnetic susceptibility and electrical resistivity. Tb7Rh3D27 and Dy7Rh3D27 show a ferromagnetic property below TC = 62 K and 23.5 K, respectively;a metallic state is induced by deuteration. The deuteration-induced magnetic transitionin these compounds can be realized by a competition between the inter- and intra-layer exchangeinteractions. The deuteration-induced semimetal to metal transition can be attributed to a modifi-cation of the energy band structure produced by a lattice expansion due to protons located in theinterstitial positions and/or additional electrons originating from the dissociation of deuterium.

The paper presents the development of resonance type flapping wings for a dragonfly-type micro aerial vehicle. which show high performance in spite of their simple structures and light weight. The wings (fore- and hind-wings) are composed of a single carbon rod of 1 ㎜ diameter and the thin EPP (Expanded Polypropylene) plate of 1.5 ㎜ thickness for the fore-wing and 3.0 ㎜ thickness for the hind-wing, respectively. The semi-span lengths of the wings are 0.11 m. The planforrns of the fore- and hind-wings are those of Onychogomphus viridicastus. The mass of the fore-wing is 0.25 g and that of the hind-wing is 0.30 g. The first natural frequencies of the fore- and hind-wings are 39 Hz and 47 Hz, respectively. The detailed performance of the wings such as time mean thrust and necessary power in still air (hovering condition) are measured using the vibration test bed. For example, the thrust is 0.095 N for the fore-wing and 0.111 N for the hind-wing at the frequency of 40 Hz. This means that the dragonfly-type MAV which employs the two-pairs of those flapping wings can generate the lift of 0.41 N (in hovering condition) at 40 Hz. In order to confirm this, a hovering demonstrator (mass: 40 g) which employs the present two pairs of the wings was built and tested. verifying that it can generate the lift which is larger than its own weight at flapping frequency of 40 Hz. The paper also presents the results of the numerical simulations of those flapping wings using a 3D Navier-Stokes code which takes into account aeroelastic effects.

Koji Niita,H. Iwase,Y. Iwamoto,T. Sato,N. Matsuda,Y. Sakamoto,H. Nakashima,L. Sihver 한국물리학회 2011 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.59 No.23
PHITS, a general-purpose Particle and Heavy Ion Transport code System, has been used for various research fields such as radiation science, accelerator and its shielding design, space research, medical application and material research. In this paper, we present an overview of the PHITS code, particularly the heavy ion reaction model included in the code and the capability of the transport of charged particles and heavy ions under magnetic field and discuss the applicability of the PHITS code to heavy ion accelerator facilities by showing some examples of the analysis.

KIT Student's Rocket has been developed by a student group of Kyushu Institute of Technology lor rocket launch campaign held at La Courtine in France since 2006. This paper introduces the newest design of rocket. The rocket has the body length of 2120㎜, and weighs 14.6㎏ and can reach to an altitude of about 700㎜ by a solid rocket motor provided by CNES (the French Centre National D’Etudes Spatiales). The rocket is controlling rolling attitude during ascent phase and then deploying a parafoil at the apogee of the trajectory for recovery guidance to an aiming point.
Event Generator Models in the Particle and Heavy Ion Transport Code System; PHITS
Koji Niita,Y. Iwamoto,T. Sato,N. Matsuda,Y. Sakamoto,H. Nakashima,H. Iwase,L. Sihver 한국물리학회 2011 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.59 No.23
We present the event generator models incorporated in the particle and heavy ion transport code system PHITS. For the high energy nuclear reactions, we discuss the QMD model and the INC model followed by the statistical decay model. For low energy neutron transport by using the nuclear data, we propose a new model, in which we combine the evaluated nuclear data and the reaction models so as to describe all ejectiles of collision keeping the energy and momentum conservation. By this new model, we can estimate new quantities which are related to the higher order correlations beyond one-body observable, for an example, the deposit energy distribution in a cell, which cannot be obtained by the transport calculation based on the Boltzmann equation with the evaluated nuclear data.

Background/Aims: Recent genome-wide analyses have provided strong evidence concerning adverse events caused by thiopurine drugs such as azathioprine (AZA) and 6-mercaptopurine. The strong associations identified between NUDT15 p.Arg139Cys and thiopurine-induced leukopenia and severe hair loss have been studied and confirmed over the last 2 years. However, other coding variants, including NUDT15 p.Val18_Val19insGlyVal, NUDT15 p.Val18Ile, and FTO p.Ala134Thr, and a noncoding variation in RUNX1 (rs2834826) remain to be examined in detail in this respect. Therefore, we investigated the correlation between these adverse events and the 5 recently identified variants mentioned above among Japanese patients with inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD). Methods: One hundred sixty thiopurine-treated patients with IBD were enrolled. Genotyping was performed using TaqMan SNP Genotyping Assays or Sanger sequencing. Results: None of the 5 variants were associated with gastrointestinal intolerance to AZA. However, NUDT15 p.Arg139Cys was significantly associated with the interval between initiation and discontinuation of AZA among patients with gastrointestinal intolerance. This variant was strongly associated with early (<8 weeks) and late (≥8 weeks) leukopenia and severe hair loss. Moreover, it correlated with the interval between initiation of thiopurine therapy and leukopenia occurrence, and average thiopurine dose. NUDT15 p.Val18_Val19insGlyVal, NUDT15 p.Val18Ile, FTO p.Ala134Thr, and RUNX1 rs2834826 exhibited no significant relationship with the adverse events examined. Conclusions: Of the 5 variants investigated, NUDT15 p.Arg139Cys had the strongest impact on thiopurineinduced leukopenia and severe hair loss; therefore, its genotyping should be prioritized over that of other variants in efforts to predict these adverse events in Japanese patients with IBD. Study Design: Retrospective. Purpose: This study aims to investigate the accuracy of the oblique fluoroscopic view, based on preoperative computed tomography (CT) images for accurate placement of lumbosacral percutaneous pedicle screws (PPS). Overview of Literature: Although PPS misplacement has been reported as one of the main complications in minimally invasive spine surgery, there is no comparative data on the misplacement rate among different fluoroscopic techniques, or comparing such techniques with open procedures. Methods: We retrospectively selected 230 consecutive patients who underwent posterior spinal fusion with a pedicle screw construct for degenerative lumbar disease, and divided them into 3 groups, those who had undergone: minimally invasive percutaneous procedure using biplane (lateral and anterior-posterior views using a single C-arm) fluoroscope views (group M-1), minimally invasive percutaneous procedure using the oblique fluoroscopic view based on preoperative CT (group M-2), and conventional open procedure using a lateral fluoroscopic view (group O: controls). The relative position of the screw to the pedicle was graded for the pedicle breach as no breach, <2 mm, 2–4 mm, or >4 mm. Inaccuracy was calculated and assessed according to the spinal level, direction and neurological deficit. Inter-group radiation exposure was estimated using fluoroscopy time. Results: Inaccuracy involved an incline toward L5, causing medial or lateral perforation of pedicles in group M-1, but it was distributed relatively equally throughout multiple levels in groups M-2 and controls. The mean fluoroscopy time/case ranged from 1.6 to 3.9 minutes. Conclusions: Minimally invasive lumbosacral PPS placement using the conventional fluoroscopic technique carries an increased risk of inaccurate screw placement and resultant neurological deficits, compared with that of the open procedure. Inaccuracy tended to be distributed between medial and lateral perforations of the L5 pedicle, as a result of pedicle morphology and the PPS pathway. Oblique fluoroscopic views, based on CT measurement, may allow accurate PPS insertion with a shorter fluoroscopy time.
