3D-CAD Data Structure Based on Shape Feature for Massive Machinery Models

In recent years, three-dimensional design with 3D-CAD (three-dimensional computer aided design) systems is being increasingly used in areas such as production facility design and machine tools engineering. In these fields, a machine model with a massive number of parts sometimes needs to be processed in order to design or verify the full assembly of an entire production line. However, most modern 3D-CAD systems face difficulties in handling such machinery models with a very large number of parts. Therefore, the designers are forced to design the machine using partial models or specific units. To solve this problem, we have focused on the surface shape of parts constituting the machinery models and clarified that most surfaces have simple shapes. We take advantage of this feature to propose a new data structure that applies simple data structures to simple-shape surfaces rather than a data structure applied to all kinds of surfaces including freeform surfaces. Based on the new data structure, we devise ways and means to speed up the display process. This paper describes these processes. We are able to handle the data of very massive models such as production facilities or machine tools using our new data structure. Our proposed data structure can provide a design environment that reduces the stress on designers through its high-speed display response.
Risk factors for severity of colonic diverticular hemorrhage

Background/Aims: Colonic diverticular hemorrhage (DH) was a rare disease until the 1990s, and its incidence has increased rapidly since 2000 in Japan. In recent years, colonic DH has been the most frequent cause of lower gastrointestinal bleeding (LGIB). Nearly all cases of DH are mild, with the bleeding often stopping spontaneously. Some cases, however, require surgery or arterial embolization. In this study, using a cohort at Fukuoka University Chikushi Hospital, we investigated factors associated with severe colonic DH. Methods: Among patients with LGIB who underwent colonoscopy at our hospital between 1995 and 2013, DH was identified in 273 patients. Among them, 62 patients (22.7%) were defined as having severe colonic DH according to recurrence of bleeding in a short period, and/or the necessity of transfusion, arterial embolization, or surgery. We then evaluated risk factors for severe DH among DH patients in this retrospective cohort. Results: Among the 273 patients with DH, use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) (odds ratio [OR], 2.801; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.164–6.742), Charlson Risk Index (CRI) ≥2 (OR, 3.336; 95% CI, 1.154–7.353), right-sided colonic DH (OR, 3.873; 95% CI, 1.554–9.653), and symptoms of cerebral hypoperfusion (such as light-headedness, dizziness, or syncope) (OR, 2.926; 95% CI, 1.310–6.535) showed an increased risk of severe DH even after controlling for other factors. Conclusions: Severe DH occurred in 23% of DH patients, and NSAID use, CRI ≥2, right-sided colonic DH, and symptoms of cerebral hypoperfusion are suggested to be predictors of severe DH.

Case assignment is one of the most important issues in theoretical lin-guistics. The goal of this paper is to describe both syntactic and semantic bases for case assignment in terms of PrototY.I.1~theory [1,4}. and to give an explanation for the difference in case assignment between English and Japanese by examining the Instrument Subject construction and deverbal nouns. English allows the structural case assignment under the syntactic prototype, while Japanese does not, because it has a strong requirement for the semantic prototype.

Utilizations of renewable energy are coming up from view points of environmental conservation and depletion of fossil fuel. However, the generated power from renewable energies is always fluctuating due to environmental status. Energy storage system is indispensable to compensate these fluctuating components. Superconducting magnetic energy storage (SMES) unit is useful for the compensation of fluctuating power since one is capable of controlling both active and reactive power simultaneously and quickly.<br/> This paper presents the series and parallel compensation using SMES (SPC-SMES), which consist of series inverter, parallel inverter, two-quadrant DC-DC converter, and superconductingcoil. The control systems for the active and reactive power of SPC-SMES are also proposes, and are verified the effectiveness through an instantaneous value analysis based computer simulations for case of wind power generation system.

The rotary crane is known to be a class of nonholonomic systems which is hard to control by classical methods. The crane system has inherently nonlinear characteristics. In this paper, we propose a feedback controller with an embeded nonlinear compensator for the rotary crane system. For the nonlinear compensation, we use a hyperbolic fuction and some coefficients. Determinations of the feedback gains and the compensator coefficients are difficult. In this paper, we apply GA optimization to determine the sets of parameters of the controller.
