        We can divide modern states of the 20th century into two groups, that is to say, liberal democratic states and socialistic despotic states. Because of the differences between the bases of these two political systems of their constitutions have been different from each other and consequently the systems which guarantee fundamental human rights are also greatly different. The constitutions adopted by a group of liberal democratic states have the regulations fully guaranteeing the fundamental human rights of freedom, such as the dignity and worth of human beings, the rights of freedom and equality of men, the freedom of concience and religion, the freedom of speech and press, the freedom of property, etc., all of which have originated from Natural Law. But on the other hand, the constitutions adopted by a group of communist states show a negative and hypocritical attitude toward those guaranteeing the fundamental human rights, and in the communist states the rights of labor and the rights of unions of laborers are not the fundamental rights of living but the absolute duty of citizens. Hence, It is necessary that we make a comparative study of the different guarantee systems for the fudamental human rights, in order to make another study of the institution of the fundamental human rights regulated in the constitution of the Republic of Korea.

      • 연폭로여성근로자들에서의 생물학적 연폭로 지표들의 상호관계

        For the purpose of obtaining of an effective biological monitoring data in terms of evaluation the health consequences of lead absorption, the female workers in the electronic industry who have been exposed to low-level lead occupationally were chosen as the subjects of our studies. We observed the 9 parameters in not only 305 lead-exposed female workers who have been exposed to lead occupationally also 254 normal female subjects who have not been exposed to lead occupationally. The parameters chosen for this study were as follows, blood lead (PbB), urine lead (PbU), δ-aminolevulinic acid in urine(ALAU), coproporphyrin in urine(CPU), zinc protoporphyrin in whole blood(ZPP), hemoglobin(Hb), hematocrit(Ht), δ-aminolevulinic acid dehydratase(ALAD) activity & ALAD activity ratio(A/R; absorbance at substrate pH 6.6/absorbance at substrate pH 5.8). The results obtained were as follows: 1. The average age of the lead-exposed female workers in the electronic industry and in the normal female subjects were 20.5±4.2 years and 21.7±3.5 years, respectively. 2. The average work duration of the lead-exposed female workers in the electronic industry was 26.4±19.4 months 3. The mean value of PbB of the lead-exposed female workers in the electronic industry and in the normal female subjects were 30.18±6.64㎍/100ml and 21.61±3.84㎍/100ml respectively. 4. In the lead-exposed female workers of the electronic industry and of the normal female subjects, the mean value of ZPP were 36.22±0.69㎍/100ml and 24.64±7.21㎍/100ml, respectively 5. In the lead-exposed female workers of the electronic industry and of the normal female subjects, the mean value of Hb were 13.98±0.57g/100ml and 14.09±0.66g/100ml, respectively. 6. The mean value of the lead-exposed female workers in the electronic industry were 55.07±17.61㎍/1 for PbU, 1.93±0.69mg/1 for ALAU, and 49.74±22.79㎍/1 for CPU, while in the normal female subjects, 44.27±15.76㎍/1 for PbU, 1.46±0.55mg/ 1 for ALAU, and 38.66±17.99㎍/1 for CPU. 7. Among various pairing of the parameters of lead exposure in the female lead-exposed workers and in the normal female subjects, the correlation between PbB and ZPP showed the highest coefficient value.

      • 경정배양에 의한 카네이션(Dianthus caryophyllus L.)의 기내증식과 순화

        본 실험은 카네이션의 경정배양을 통한 기내증식체계를 확립하고 기내증식과정 중 발생하는 투명묘의 발생을 억제하기 위하여 실시하였으며, 발근과 순화과정을 통합함으로써 그에 따르는 경비와 노동력을 절감할 수 있는 방안을 마련하는 한편, 기내에서 얻은 묘를 직접 재배에 이용할 수 있는 방법을 개발하기 위하여 실시하였다. 경정배양에서 생존율은 Benzyladenine (BA) 또는 Kinetin (KI) 0.1㎎/ℓ 첨가한 모든 배지에서 80%이상이었으나 그 이상의 농도에서는 농도가 증가할수록 생존율이 감소하였으며, Naphthaleneacetic acid (NAA) 또는 Indoleacetic acid (LAA) 0.1㎎/ℓ 혼합첨가시에는 2.0㎎/ℓ까지는 농도에 관계없이 모든 처리구에서 생존율이 75%이상이었다. 경정배양에서 얻은 신초의 증식배양에서 LAA나 NAA의 첨가에 관계없이 KI보다 BA를 첨가하면 신초발육이 더 좋았다. MS배지의 무기염류를 4배로 첨가한 4MS배지에서는 신초가 모두 고사하였고, 1 MS배지에서 신초의 발육이 가장 좋았다. Sucrose 무첨가 배지에서 신초의 발육이 가장 좋았다. Sucrose 무첨가 배지에서 신초의 발육은 거의 이루어지지 않았고, sucrose 20㎎/ℓ첨가배지에서 신초의 발육이 가장 좋았다. 한천보다 겔라이트 첨가배지에서 신초의 발육이 좋았다. 배지 pH는 5.0에서 신초의 발육이 가장 양호하였다. 투명화묘의 발생은 경정배양과 계대배양 전과정에서 발생하였고, 한천 또는 겔라이트의 농도를 높여주었을때에 억제되었다. 발근 및 순화단계에서 신초의 발육과 근형성은 sand, vermiculite배지에서 보다 perlite배지에서 더 좋았다. This study was carried out to establish a system for clonal multiplication and preventing vitrification in shoot tip culture of carnation. Combining the two steps of rooting and acclimatization, it may possibly reduce the cost and save the labor for clonal propagation. In addition, the plantlets raised by this one step rooting and acclimatization could be directly transferred to soil. The survival rate was over 80% in the media containing 0.1㎎/ℓ benzyl-adenin (BA) or kinetin (KI), but decreased as the concentration increased. When auxins were added in combination with cytokinins, the survival rate was over 75% regardless of the cytokinin concentration up to 2.0㎎/ℓ. When the in vitro shoots were subcultured, shoot development was better in the media containing BA than those containing KI regardless of addition of indoleacetic acid (LAA) of α-naphthalene acetic acid (NAA). Shoot development was the best in the standard MS medium(1xMS), while all the shoots on the medium containing 4 times the inorganic salts of MS medium(4xMS) died. Shoot development in MS medium free of sugar was not noticed. The MS medium containing 20g/ℓsucrose resulted in the best shoot growth. Shoot development was better on the media containing gelrite than those containing agar. The MS medium at pH 5.0 favored the shoot development. Vitrification of shoots occurred during the initial shoot culture as well as during the subculture of the in vitro shoots, but it was suppressed when the concentration of gelrite or agar in the media was increased. As the substrate for rooting and acclimatization of the in vitro shoots, perlite was better than sand or vermiculite.

      • Transfer of Chryseobacterium meningosepticum and Chryseobacterium miricola to Elizabethkingia gen. nov. as Elizabethkingia meningoseptica comb. nov. and Elizabethkingia miricola comb. nov.

        <P>The taxonomic positions of six strains (including the type strain) of Chryseobacterium meningosepticum (King 1959) Vandamme et al. 1994 and the type strain of Chryseobacterium miricola Li et al. 2004 were re-evaluated by using a polyphasic taxonomic approach. Phylogenetic analysis, based on 16S rRNA gene sequencing, showed that the strains represent a separate lineage from the type strains of the Chryseobacterium-Bergeyella-Riemerella branch within the family Flavobacteriaceae (90.7-93.9 % similarities), which was supported by phenotypic differences. Combined phylogenetic and phenotypic data showed that C. meningosepticum and C. miricola should be transferred to a new genus, Elizabethkingia gen. nov., with the names Elizabethkingia meningoseptica comb. nov. (type strain, ATCC 13253(T) = NCTC 10016(T) = LMG 12279(T) = CCUG 214(T)) and Elizabethkingia miricola comb. nov. (type strain, DSM 14571(T) = JCM 11413(T) = GTC 862(T)) proposed.</P>

      • Microbacterium xylanilyticum sp. nov., a xylan-degrading bacterium isolated from a biofilm

        <P>A novel xylan-degrading bacterium, S3-E<SUP>T</SUP>, was isolated from the biofilm of a membrane bioreactor. The cells of this strain were Gram-positive, non-motile, non-spore-forming rods, produced primary branches and formed yellow colonies on nutrient agar. The strain had chemotaxonomic markers that were consistent with classification in the genus <I>Microbacterium</I>, i.e. MK-12, MK-11 and MK-13 as the major menaquinones, predominant iso- and anteiso-branched cellular fatty acids, glucose and galactose as the cell-wall sugars, peptidoglycan-type B2<I>β</I> with glycolyl residues and a DNA G+C content of 69·7 mol%. Phylogenetic analysis, based on 16S rRNA gene sequencing, showed that strain S3-E<SUP>T</SUP> is most similar to <I>Microbacterium hominis</I> IFO 15708<SUP>T</SUP> and <I>Microbacterium foliorum</I> DSM 12966<SUP>T</SUP> (97·6 and 97·4 % sequence similarity, respectively), and that it forms a separate lineage with <I>M. hominis</I> in the genus <I>Microbacterium</I>. DNA-DNA hybridization results and phenotypic properties showed that strain S3-E<SUP>T</SUP> could be distinguished from all known <I>Microbacterium</I> species and represented a novel species, for which the name <I>Microbacterium xylanilyticum</I> sp. nov. is proposed; the type strain is S3-E<SUP>T</SUP> (=DSM 16914<SUP>T</SUP>=KCTC 19079<SUP>T</SUP>).</P>

        Achalasia is a motor disorder of esophagus with characteristic clincal, radiographic, and manometric features. Neoplastic involvement of distal esophagus could result in a clinical pic- ture that mimics idiopathic achalasia. Failure to identify such cases may delay effective treatment of curable tumor. We report a case of secondary achalasia resulting from the leio- myoma of the lower esophagus in a 20 year old woman. After the excision of mass and myoto- my of lower esophagus she showed clinical inprovement.(Korean J Gastroenterol 1994; 26: 321 -326)

        We have developed a high-resolution alignment microcontact printing device based on transferring a pattern from a PDMS stamp to a metal coated substrate by using self-assembled monolayers. The PDMS stamp was mounted on stamp chuck with rigid backplane. The metal coated substrate was brought at a gap of about 12㎜ from the PDMS stamp. Stamp chuck was controlled step of 100㎚ by a PZT actuator and LVDT sensor. When stamp chuck was fed, working gap has smaller and part of PDMS stamp makes contact with substrate at a low force close to the 0.1N, effecting the printing. As a result of manufacturing microcontact printing device, the defect-free pattern of sub-micron size could be fabricated from PDMS stamp. Also, microcontact printing device overcomes all the disadvantages of conventional printing techniques and prevents transformation of the submicronfeatures in the polymer stamp. And, the pattern was printed without deform by the delicate printing process, which is specially invented for microcontact printing process.

        Detection of antibody to porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus from pig sera collected during the period of January to December 2000

        During the period of January to December 2000, a total of 3,505 swine sera was collected from 208 farms, which are located throughout country, for the diagnosis of porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome(PRRS). The antibody to porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus(PRRS) was tested by indirect immunofluorescent antibody(IFA) test. Of 208 farms tested, at least one or more than one pigs was positive for PRRSV antibody in 188(90.4%) farms. The overall seroprevalence of PRRSV antibody was 45.1% (1581/3505). Most pigs were infected with PRRSV at around 50- to 60-day old. The seroprevalence of antibody varied with age. The highest seroprevalence of PRRSV antibody was observed in the growing pigs at around 80-day old. About one-thirds of adult pigs including boar, gilt and sow were positive to PRRSV antibody. In many farms, the infection of PRRSV was chronic and confined to grower and/or finisher. However, antibody was detected from all production phase in some farms.
