Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) mainly affects polyarticular joints and is characterized by inflammation of the synovial membrane leading to joint destruction. We report on an unusual case of RA presenting as an intra-articular mass invading bone of the wrist joint in a patient with chronic monoarthritis. A 43-year-old man presented with left wrist joint pain and swelling lasting several years. A plain radiograph showed a non-specific osteolytic lesion in the distal ulna but a magnetic resonance image demonstrated an intra-articular irregular mass-like lesion with eccentric bone erosion the distal radioulnar joint. Synovial biopsy detected hyperplasia of the synovial lining cell layer and finger-like protrusions of inflamed and edematous fibrovascular stroma containing dense inflammatory infiltrates, mainly plasma cells, B cells, and CD4+ T cells. Rheumatoid factor and anti-citrullinated protein antibody were highly positive. The patient was diagnosed with RA and treated with disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs, showing a good response on further follow-up. (J Rheum Dis 2015;22:298-302)

<P>Both self-healable conductors and stretchable conductors have been previously reported. However, it is still difficult to simultaneously achieve high stretchability, high conductivity, and self-healability. Here, we observed an intriguing phenomenon, termed ?electrical self-boosting?, which enables reconstructing of electrically percolative pathways in an ultrastretchable and self-healable nanocomposite conductor (over 1700% strain). The autonomously reconstructed percolative pathways were directly verified by using microcomputed tomography and <I>in situ</I> scanning electron microscopy. The encapsulated nanocomposite conductor shows exceptional conductivity (average value: 2578 S cm<SUP>?1</SUP>; highest value: 3086 S cm<SUP>?1</SUP>) at 3500% tensile strain by virtue of efficient strain energy dissipation of the self-healing polymer and self-alignment and rearrangement of silver flakes surrounded by spontaneously formed silver nanoparticles and their self-assembly in the strained self-healing polymer matrix. In addition, the conductor maintains high conductivity and stretchability even after recovered from a complete cut. Besides, a design of double-layered conductor enabled by the self-bonding assembly allowed a conducting interface to be located on the neutral mechanical plane, showing extremely durable operations in a cyclic stretching test. Finally, we successfully demonstrated that electromyogram signals can be monitored by our self-healable interconnects. Such information was transmitted to a prosthetic robot to control various hand motions for robust interactive human-robot interfaces.</P> [FIG OMISSION]</BR>
Ligand-to-metal charge transfer driven by excited-state antiaromaticity in metallohexaphyrins

We investigated the effect of excited-state antiaromaticity on the ligand-to-metal charge transfer (LMCT) process of metallohexaphyrins. According to Baird rule, the aromatic metallohexaphyrins in the S0 state become antiaromatic in the S1 state. Because of the metal–ligand redox-like nature of LMCT process, the LMCT process can release the antiaromatic nature and its energetic destabilization. The metallohexaphyrins show a correlation between the S0-state aromaticity and time constants for the LMCT process, which well demonstrates that the excitedstate antiaromaticity at the Franck–Condon state acts as a driving force for the LMCT process. These findings elucidate the effect of excited-state antiaromaticity on the excited-state behaviors and further provide an insight into the photochemistry of organic molecules.
Efficient Synapse Memory Structure for Reconfigurable Digital Neuromorphic Hardware

<P>Spiking Neural Networks (SNNs) have high potential to process information efficiently with binary spikes and time delay information. Recently, dedicated SNN hardware accelerators with on-chip synapse memory array are gaining interest in overcoming the limitations of running software-based SNN in conventional Von Neumann machines. In this paper, we proposed an efficient synapse memory structure to reduce the amount of hardware resource usage while maintaining performance and network size. In the proposed design, synapse memory size can be reduced by applying presynaptic weight scaling. In addition, axonal/neuronal offsets are applied to implement multiple layers on a single memory array. Finally, a transposable memory addressing scheme is presented for faster operation of spike-timing-dependent plasticity (STDP) learning. We implemented a SNN ASIC chip based on the proposed scheme with 65 nm CMOS technology. Chip measurement results showed that the proposed design provided up to 200X speedup over CPU while consuming 53 mW at 100 MHz with the energy efficiency of 15.2 pJ/SOP.</P>

<P>A mechanically tissue-like, biocompatible vitrimer film for tissue engineering scaffold applications is presented. 3D hierarchical scaffolds are prepared from the 2D vitrimer film <I>via</I> transesterification-induced hot embossing patterning and additional reconfiguration processes. Microsized grooves patterned on the vitrimer surface are found to enhance C2C12 cell elongation and alignment for promoted muscle regeneration.</P>
Input Voltage Mapping Optimized for Resistive Memory-Based Deep Neural Network Hardware

<P>Artificial neural network (ANN) computations based on graphics processing units (GPUs) consume high power. Resistive random-access memory (RRAM) has been gaining attention as a promising technology for implementing power-efficient ANNs, replacing GPU. However, nonlinear I-V characteristics of RRAM devices have been limiting its use for ANN implementation. In this letter, we propose a method and a circuit to address issues due to the nonlinear I-V characteristics. We demonstrate the feasibility of the method by simulating its application to multiple neural networks, from multi-layer perceptron to deep convolutional neural network based on a typical RRAM model. Results from classifying datasets including ImageNet show that the proposed method produces much higher accuracy than the naive linear mapping for a wide range of nonlinearity.</P>

본 연구는 지역사회의 빈곤과 아동학대 발생의 중요한 패턴 중 하나인 재학대의 관계를 파악하였다. 구체적으로는 학대피해아동의 재학대 신고 및 판정 여부에 대한 지역사회 빈곤의 영향력을 분석하였으며, 이 과정에서 학대피해아동과 학대행위자의 특성을 고려하였다. 분석에 활용된 자료는 2012년 국가아동학대정보시스템에 등록된 10,572사례 중 아동학대 판정을 받았고 사례정보가 충분하다고 판정되는 5771사례였다. 각 사건발생 시군구 기준 2012년 주민등록인구수와 기초수급자 현황을 대비한 지역사회 빈곤율이 투입된 위계적 선형모형의 분석결과, 지역사회의 빈곤율은 아동 재학대의 신고여부에 영향력을 나타낸 반면, 아동 재학대 판정여부에는 영향력을 드러내지 않았다. 아울러, 아동의 성별과 연령, 위험사정수준, 학대행위자의 학대경험과 문제해결능력 등은 재학대 신고와 판정여부 모두에 영향력을 나타냈다. 본 연구는 이와 같은 결과를 바탕으로 정책적⋅실천적 함의 등을 논의하였다. This study investigated the relationship between neighborhood poverty and recidivism of child abuse, an important pattern in the occurrence of child abuse. Specifically, this study analyzed the influence of neighborhood poverty on the recidivism of child abuse and decisions on the reported cases after characteristics of victims and perpetrators adjusted. This study utilized data from the 5,771 cases that were identified as child abuse cases among the 10,572 reported for alleged child abuse in the national child abuse incidence database of 2012. Results from a series of hierarchical linear models showed that the neighborhood poverty rate was associated with the child abuse reoccurrence report, but not with the recidivism of child abuse substantiation. Further, children’s gender and age, the level of risk assessment of victims, previous experience of child abuse, and the problem-solving skills of perpetrators were related to both child abuse reoccurrence report and substantiation. Various policy and clinical implications of this study were discussed.

실감형 사용자 인터페이스를 사용하는 상호작용을 디자인하고 구현하기 위해서는 장치의 제어, 입력 데이터의 센싱과 보정, 상호작용 디자인, 로우레벨 프로그래밍, 성능 최적화 등과 같은 다양한 분야의 지식이 필요하다. 게다가, 주어진 상호작용 장치와 콘텐츠의 특성에 따라 사용할 수 있는 상호작용 기법을 적절하게 선택 및 조합하기 위해서는 많은 시행착오를 겪어야 하기 때문에, 최상의 사용성을 달성하기 위해서는 많은 노력과 시간이 필요하다. 본 논문은 다양한 장치를 조합하여 제작된 실감형 상호작용 플랫폼을 소개하고 있으며, 위에서 언급한 어려움을 해결하고 실감형 상호작용을 쉽게 구현할 수 있도록 개발된 XML 기반의 저작도구를 설명하고 있다. 더불어, 몇 개의 예시 콘텐츠를 통하여 연구결과의 효용성을 검증하고자 한다. The design and implementation of the interaction for tangible user interfaces require in-depth knowledge in many different disciplines, such as device control, sensing and calibrating devices, interaction design, low-level programming, and performance tuning. Many trial and error iterations are needed to determine the proper combination of the interaction techniques while using available interaction devices and considering the characteristics of contents. As a result, it takes too much effort and time to achieve maximum usability. This paper introduces a tangible user-interface platform, which is fabricated using various hardware devices and an XML-based authoring tool, which is developed in order to relieve content creators of the burden of the above difficulties. Finally, we demonstrate our work by illustrating some example contents.
