        Ultrasonographic Evaluation of the Lymphedema

        Background : Lymphedma occurs when tissue swelling develops through a failure of lymph drainage in the face of a normal capillary filtration. Little is known about water behavior in lymphedma. Objective : Our purpose was to investigate, by means of ultrasound, the distribution of intradermalfluid in patients with lymphedema in response to 2 weeks' physical therapy. Method : Ten patients with lymphedema were treated by 2 weeks' physical therapy. Before and after 2 weeks' treatment, circumference and ultrasonographic evaluation was done. Ultrasound images were obtained with a 20 ㎒ scanner. The echogenicity of the dermis and the skin thickness were quantified by in-built image analyzer. Results : Low echogenic pixels showed the most noticeable and consistent change after 2 weeks' physical therapy. Conclusion : Ultrasonographic evaluation could be a useful tool in evaluating lymphedema.

        One-step synthesis of TiC/multilayer graphene composite by thermal plasma

        <P>Graphene hybrid materials have been attracting a great deal of attention due to their superior properties. Nevertheless, problems such as expensive and complicated production processes have limited their application to industrial fields. Here, we introduce a one-step synthesis of titanium carbide (TiC) nanoparticles on multilayer graphene nanosheet (TiC/multilayer graphene) composites using thermal plasma. Although there are three types of titanium alkoxides (titanium ethoxide, titanium isopropoxide and titanium n-butoxide), the TiC/multilayer graphene was synthesized from only titanium isopropoxide. The injection temperature of the precursor was varied to investigate the effects of the precursor concentration in the plasma region. A TiC/multilayer graphene hybrid material with crystalline TiC nanoparticles below 50 nm on graphene nanosheets was observed. The number of graphene nanosheet layers varied from one to over 10 according to the injection temperature. When titanium ethoxide and titanium butoxide were injected, TiC with amorphous carbon and graphite were synthesized. The formation of graphene is considered to be affected by the structure of the carbon chain in the precursors and the concentration in the plasma region. (C) 2018 Elsevier B.V.         Effect of the Dysbindin Gene on Antimanic Agents in Patients with Bipolar I Disorder

        Objective: We previously reported an association between dysbindin gene (DTNBP1) variants and bipolar I disorder (BID). This paper expands upon previous findings suggesting that DTNBP1 variants may play a role in the response to acute mood stabilizer treatment. Methods: A total of 45 BID patients were treated with antimanic agents (lithium, valproate, or carbamazepine) for an average of 36.52 (±19.87) days. After treatment, the patients were evaluated using the Clinical Global Impression (CGI) scale and the Young Mania Rating Scale (YMRS) and genotyped for their DTNBP1 variants (rs3213207 A/G, rs1011313 C/T, rs2005976 G/A, rs760761 C/T and rs2619522 A/C). Results: There was no association between the variants investigated and response to mood stabilizer treatment, even after considering possible stratification factors. Conclusion: Although the small number of subjects is an important limitation in our study, DTNBP1 does not seem to be involved in acute antimanic efficacy.       • Release of Ammonia Odor from AAFA (Ammonia Adsorbed Fly Ash) by Installation of NOx Reduction System

        This paper discussed the effect of ammonia concentration adsorbed on fly ash for the ammonia emission as AAFA (Ammonia Adsorbed Fly Ash) produced from coal fired plants due to operation of NOx reduction technologies was landfilled with distilled or sea water at closed and open systems, respectively. Ammonia bisulfate and sulfates adsorbed on fly ash is highly water soluble. The pH of ammonium bisulfate and sulfate solution had significant effect on ammonia odor emission. The effect of temperature on ammonia odor emission from mixture was less than pH, the rate of ammonia emission increased with increased temperature when the pH conditions were kept at constant. Since AAFA increases the pH of solution substantially, $NH_3$ in the ash can release the ammonia order unless it is present at low concentration. $NH_4{^+}$ ion is unstable in fly ash and water mixtures of high pH at open system, which is changed to nitrite or nitrate and then released as ammonia gas. The proper conditions for < 20 ppm of ammonia concentration released from the AAFAs landfilled in ash pond were explored using an open system with sea water. It was therefore proposed that optimal operation to collect AAFA of less than 168 ppm ammonia at the electrostatic precipitator were controlled to ammonia slip with less than 5 ppm at SCR/SNCR installations, and, ammonia odor released from mixture of fly ash of 168 ppm ammonia with sea water under open system has about 20 ppm.

        Background: Confluent and reticulated papillomatosis(CRP) is a rare cutaneous disorder characterized by persistent, scaling brown papules, patches, and plaques located on the trunk, neck, axillae, and shoulders. Many different treatments with variable success have been attempted. There were a few case reports of CRP responding to topical retinoid, but no clinical studies on the efficacy of the topical retinoid treatment for CRP have been reported. Objectives: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of the topical tretinoin treatment for CRP. Methods: A retrospective study was performed based on the medical records and clinical photographs of the patients with CRP treated with 0.025% tretinoin cream. Results: Nine patients were enrolled in the study. The mean age of the patients was 17.4(11~34) years and the mean age at onset of CRP was 15.1(3~33) years. The duration of disease varied from 1 month to 7 years. Six of the nine patients showed complete remission and CRP lesions improved markedly after averagely 6.2 weeks from the beginning of the topical tretinoin treatment. The treatment response was better in the patients without itch than in the patient with itch(p=0.048). Adverse effects were detected in 3 patients and were mild irritation to the topical tretinoin. Conclusion: We think topical 0.025% tretinoin treatment is an effective and safe treatment modality for CRP and this treatment can be an alternative or additional modality to systemic treatment.

        Poling Field Effect on Absorption and Luminescence of Disperse Red-19 and TiO<sub>2</sub> Composites

        Absorption and luminescence characteristics of disperse red-19 (DR-19) and $TiO_2$ composite have been investigated with various poling electric field strengths. Two step synthetic processes were employed to employ the DR-19 to the $TiO_2$ sol-gel. Firstly, urethane bond formation between DR-19 (-OH) and 3-isocyanatopropyl triethoxysilane (ICPTES, -N=C=O) performed (ICPDR) prior incorporation to the $TiO_2$ sol-gel. Secondary, the hydrolysis of the ethoxy group from the ICPTES and condensation reaction between silanol groups from ICPTES and $TiO_2$ sol-gel were performed. The ICPDR and $TiO_2$ sol-gel ($DRTiO_2$) were mixed and stirred for several days. The composite was coated to the ITO coated glass substrate. Corona poling were performed before drying the composite with various electric field strengths. The absorption intensity decreased with the increase of the poling field strength, which resulted in the increase of poling efficiency. The photoluminescence also decreased as the poling field strength increased. There is long luminescence tail for the poled $DRTiO_2$ film compared with unpoled $DRTiO_2$ film. The luminescence long tail indicates that the self-trapped excitons and polarons were generated when the $DRTiO_2$ film was poled with electric field.

        Production of linear α-olefin 1-octene via dehydration of 1-octanol over Al<sub>2</sub>O<sub>3</sub> catalyst

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>The linear α-olefin 1-octene was produced via the dehydration of 1-octanol over Al<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB> catalysts. The effect of calcination temperature on the characteristics of an Al<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB> catalyst and its activity in the dehydration of 1-octanol to 1-octene was investigated. Al<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB> catalysts calcined at various temperatures (250, 500, 750, 1000 °C) were evaluated at 300–400 °C with a liquid hourly space velocity (LHSV) of 7–56 h<SUP>−1</SUP>. XRD, BET, <SUP>27</SUP>Al-NMR, Py-FTIR, and NH<SUB>3</SUB>-TPD analyses indicated that the calcination temperature affected the crystal phase, surface area, occupancy of the coordinated Al<SUP>3+</SUP> ion, and acidic properties of Al<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB> catalysts. Upon calcination at temperatures >750 °C, the surface area of Al<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB> catalysts reduced due to γ-Al<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB> to θ-Al<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB> phase transition. The changes in the crystal phase decreased the surface area, which correlated to the acidity of the Al<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB> catalyst. The distribution of unsaturated Al<SUP>3+</SUP> ions acting as LAS on the catalyst surface increased with increasing calcination temperature, but decreased above 750 °C calcination temperature due to the diminishing surface area. The Al<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB> catalyst calcined at 500 °C showed the highest 1-octanol conversion in the dehydration of 1-octanol.
