Haptic Glove with Haptic Feedback for Elastic Objects at a Low Cost

As the necessity of haptic technology in the metaverse area has been increasing, a number of glove-shaped haptic devices have been developed and commercialized. However, current commercialized devices are highly expensive for not only developing countries but also for average individuals. Therefore, this paper sets out to present an affordable and practically usable haptic glove. The three main elements contested in this paper are Leap Motion Controller (LMC), which is used to improve and stabilize the recognition of hand tracking in Unity. Elasticity, which pertains using string-based haptic feedback wherein our Haptic Glove generates an elastic effect of a virtual object. Lastly, an EMG sensor: By connecting the EMG sensor and the Haptic Glove, this paper proposes the possibility of expanding the use of the Haptic Gloves for fine motor development and rehabilitation.
Antimelanogenesis and skin-protective activities of Panax ginseng calyx ethanol extract

Background: The antioxidant effects of Panax ginseng have been reported in several articles; however, little is known about the antimelanogenesis effect, skin-protective effect, and cellular mechanism of Panax ginseng, especially of P. ginseng calyx. To understand how an ethanol extract of P. ginseng berry calyx (Pg-C-EE) exerts skin-protective effects, we studied its activities in activated melanocytes and reactive oxygen species (ROS)-induced keratinocytes. Methods: To confirm the antimelanogenesis effect of Pg-C-EE, we analyzed melanin synthesis and secretion and messenger RNA and protein expression levels of related genes. Ultraviolet B (UVB) and hydrogen peroxide ($H_2O_2$) were used to induce cell damage by ROS generation. To examine whether this damage is inhibited by Pg-C-EE, we performed cell viability assays and gene expression and transcriptional activation analyses. Results: Pg-C-EE inhibited melanin synthesis and secretion by blocking activator protein 1 regulatory enzymes such as p38, extracellular signal-regulated kinases (ERKs), and cyclic adenosine mono-phosphate response element-binding protein. Pg-C-EE also suppressed ROS generation induced by $H_2O_2$ and UVB. Treatment with Pg-C-EE decreased the expression of matrix metalloproteinases, mitogen-activated protein kinases, and hyaluronidases and increased the cell survival rate. Conclusion: These results suggest that Pg-C-EE may have antimelanogenesis properties and skin-protective properties through regulation of activator protein 1 and cyclic adenosine monophosphate response element-binding protein signaling. Pg-C-EE may be used as a skin-improving agent, with moisture retention and whitening effects.
Burnout of Faculty Members of Medical Schools in Korea

Background: There is no national survey on medical school faculty members’ burnout in Korea. This study aimed to investigate burnout levels and explore possible factors related to burnout among faculty members of Korean medical schools. Methods: An anonymous online questionnaire was distributed to 40 Korean medical schools from October 2020 to December 2020. Burnout was measured by a modified and revalidated version of the Maslach Burnout Inventory-Human Service Survey. Results: A total of 996 faculty members participated in the survey. Of them, 855 answered the burnout questions, and 829 completed all the questions in the questionnaire. A significant number of faculty members showed a high level of burnout in each sub-dimension: 34% in emotional exhaustion, 66.3% in depersonalization, and 92.4% in reduced personal accomplishment. A total of 31.5% of faculty members revealed a high level of burnout in two sub-dimensions, while 30.5% revealed a high level of burnout in all three sub-dimensions. Woman faculty members or those younger than 40 reported significantly higher emotional exhaustion and depersonalization. Long working hours (≥ 80 hours/week) showed the highest reduced personal accomplishment scores (F = 4.023, P = 0.018). The most significant stressor or burnout source was “excessive regulation by the government or university.” The research was the most exasperating task, but the education was the least stressful. Conclusion: This first nationwide study alerts that a significant number of faculty members in Korean medical schools seem to suffer from a high level of burnout. Further studies are necessary for identifying the burnout rate, related factors, and strategies to overcome physician burnout.
An Experimental Study on Ground-to-UAV Communications

Optical wireless communication (OWC) technologies are gaining significant research interest due to their ability to cater to the demand for high bandwidth and provide simple, low-cost, secure, and flexible solutions for next-generation wireless communications. Recently, unmanned aerial vehicle (UAVs), commonly known as drones, has been the subject of concerted research, and have attracted significant interest in rapid deployment for both military and civil applications. In this paper, we analyze experimentally, the ground-to-UAV optical communication link. An experiment test-bed using a varying pulse width laser and photodiode is constructed to characterize the propagation channel. In particular, we investigate the path loss, bit error rate, and semi-angle at half-power. The results provide insight into the ground-to-UAV propagation channel characteristics.
Semi-supervised based Unknown Attack Detection in EDR Environment

Cyberattacks penetrate the server and perform various malicious acts such as stealing confidential information, destroying systems, and exposing personal information. To achieve this, attackers perform various malicious actions by infecting endpoints and accessing the internal network. However, the current countermeasures are only anti-viruses that operate in a signature or pattern manner, allowing initial unknown attacks. Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) technology is focused on providing visibility, and strong countermeasures are lacking. If you fail to respond to the initial attack, it is difficult to respond additionally because malicious behavior like Advanced Persistent Threat (APT) attack does not occur immediately, but occurs over a long period of time. In this paper, we propose a technique that detects an unknown attack using an event log without prior knowledge, although the initial response failed with anti-virus. The proposed technology uses a combination of AutoEncoder and 1D CNN (1-Dimention Convolutional Neural Network) based on semi-supervised learning. The experiment trained a dataset collected over a month in a real-world commercial endpoint environment, and tested the data collected over the next month. As a result of the experiment, 37 unknown attacks were detected in the event log collected for one month in the actual commercial endpoint environment, and 26 of them were verified as malicious through VirusTotal (VT). In the future, it is expected that the proposed model will be applied to EDR technology to form a secure endpoint environment and reduce time and labor costs to effectively detect unknown attacks.

Objectives Vaccinations against diphtheria and tetanus are essential in providing immunity against these bacterial infections. The potency of diphtheria and tetanus toxoid vaccines can be measured using the in vivo toxin neutralization assay. The limit of potency of this assay was determined only for children. Therefore, we assessed the potency of adult vaccines using this assay to identify the feasibility of limit for adult vaccines. Methods Fifteen lots of tetanus-reduced diphtheria and tetanus-diphtheria-acellular pertussis vaccines were used. In vivo toxin neutralization and lethal challenge assays were conducted on each vaccine to calculate the potencies of the toxoids. National reference standards for toxins and antitoxins were used for in vivo toxin neutralization assay. Results All 15 lots satisfied the limits of potency for lethal challenge assay. The potency of diphtheria and tetanus toxoids exceeded 1 and 8 units/mL, respectively, for in vivo toxin neutralization assay. Conclusion Although additional studies are required for new assays and limits, the current level of potency for adult vaccines as determined by in vivo toxin neutralization assay, was demonstrated in this study. Such efforts to improve assays are expected to promote the development of diphtheria and tetanus vaccines for adults and to contribute to vaccine self-sufficiency.

Recently, the virtual test techniques using computer has widely been used to reduce cost and time during vehicle development period. In this paper, we applied this virtual testing method to an analysis of durability performance of suspension system. In order to analyze the fatigue life of suspension components virtually, we need to conduct dynamic simulation, accelerated durability signal processing and fatigue analysis. These processes are dealt in this research procedure and as a suspension component for fatigue analysis I-arm of front suspension has been considered.

The center pillar lower joint between center pillar and side sill normally is connected by spot welds. The joint should have enough stiffness to resist a side impact. When the spot welds are detached, the deformation mode shows totally different collapse mode so that the spot weld failure modeling is important to correlate physical test. In this study, the sheet metal failures around the nugget are modeled using strain-based criterion. The sheet metal around nugget are modeled to have regular mesh. Lap shear coupon tests were conducted to define strain failure criteria. This modeling technique has been correlated with side impact test.

The purpose of this article is to study the status of Nepal’s existing inclusive education policy and implementation process. As Nepal’s research and current report show that inclusive educational practice is not being satisfactorily implemented. It is so because of the absence of support services, relevant materials, adequately qualified special education teachers, funding as well as structures and systems. Until both concepts and policies are expressed clearly and accurately, meaningful implementation of inclusive education will remain challenging. Based on the initial findings, it is suggested that the government of Nepal should revise teacher training programs, train all teachers in inclusive education methods, and improve the monitoring of education for all children.
