Real-space Imaging of Ferroelectric and Structural Antiphase Domains in Hexagonal YMnO<sub>3</sub>

A high-angle annular-dark-field (HAADF) imaging technique was applied to the investigation of domain wall structures in the ferroelectric phase of hexagonal manganites, YMnO<sub>3</sub>, on an atomic scale. The displacements of the Y<sup>3+</sup> ions along the [001] direction can be clearly visualized. The ferroelectric dipole moments are revealed to be caused by the opposite and unequal displacements of Y<sup>3+</sup> ions. Two types of domain walls should be identified in the ferroelectric domain structures. One is charged longitudinal domain walls with head-to-head or tail-to-tail configurations and the other is non-charged transverse domain walls with head-to-tail configurations. In addition, the ferroelectric and the structural antiphase domains in YMnO<sub>3</sub> change into fragmentary domains because of substitution of Ti<sup>4+</sup> for Mn<sup>3+</sup>, and ferroelectric nanodomains with sizes of 10 - 20 nm are found in the x = 0.30 compound.
Parent Artery Complex Coil Protection for Side-Branched Wide-Neck Aneurysms

This study aimed to validate the usefulness of parent artery complex coil protection for the treatment of wide-neck, side-branched, and ruptured aneurysms. A microcatheter was first introduced into the aneurysmal sac, and another microcatheter was introduced into the parent artery or near the orifice of the branch artery. A framing coil was deployed partially from the first microcatheter, and a protection coil was deployed from the second microcatheter to prevent protrusion of the first framing coil to the parent artery and side branches. After the first framing coil insertion, the protection coil was withdrawn to confirm the stability of the framing coil and blood flow. The procedures with this technique were successful for 3 patients. Parent artery complex coil protection can be an effective and safe coil embolization technique for the preservation of parent and side branch arteries and an alternative method for emergent ruptured cases.

In patients with unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) without both macrovascular invasion and extrahepatic metastasis, the initial treatment choice recommended is transarterial chemoembolization (TACE). Before sorafenib came into wide use, TACE had been pointlessly carried out repeatedly. It was in the early 2010s that the concept of TACE refractory was advocated. Two retrospective studies from Japan indicated that conversion from TACE to sorafenib the day after patients were deemed as TACE refractory improved overall survival compared with continued TACE, according to the definition by the Japan Society of Hepatology. Nowadays, phase 3 trials have shown clinical benefits of several novel molecular target agents. Compared with the era of sorafenib, sequential treatments with these molecular target agents have gradually prolonged patients’ survival and have become major strategies in patients with HCC. Taking these together, conversion from TACE to systemic therapies at the time of TACE refractory, compared with before, may have a greater impact on survival and may be considered deeper in the decisions-making process in patients with unresectable HCC who are candidate for TACE. Up-to-date information on the concept of TACE refractory is summarized in this review. We believe that the survival of patients with unresectable HCC without both macrovascular invasion and extrahepatic metastasis may be dramatically improved by optimal timing of TACE refractory and switching to systemic therapies.
An ATM-Based Multicast Intersatellite Routing for LEO Satellite Networks

Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite communication systems with InterSatellite Links (ISLs) are promising as a world-wide multimedia core network infrastructure. As satellites come to higher latitudes in polar orbit constellation, the degradation of ISL transmission quality becomes large because of ISL interference and relative angular velocity between satellites in adjacent orbits. This paper deals with the transmission quality of ISLs based on the general transmission model. We propose an ATM-based multicast routing approach with link weight which overcomes the degradation of transmission quality and show that this approach enhances transmission quality significantly by computer simulation.

ZnO:In nanocrystals (NCs) with various In contents were synthesized by using a mixed source vapor transportation method. The morphological variation and electronic structure of ZnO:In NCs were studied by bulk sensitive hard X-ray photoemission spectroscopy (HX-PES). ZnO:In NCs are classified into ZnOlike hexagonal and In2O3-like cubic groups, based on the crystal structure, and we have estimated the In content for the phase transformation to be as high as 35 atomic% (atm.%). A filled electronic state in the conduction band was observed from the ZnO-like group, which is regarded as a metallic state, due to an increase of extrinsic carrier density.
