이강대,손성환,박종욱,김영록,이봉주,김주연 고신대학교의과대학 2008 고신대학교 의과대학 학술지 Vol.23 No.1
Background and Objectives : Cisplatin (CP) is a major chemotherapeutic agent for head and neck cancer. However, cancer cells can get drug resistance through recovering the DNA damage by CP. Mithramycin A (MA) can inhibit gene expression of multidrug resistance gene 1, c-myc or h-ras. The goal of this study is to evaluate the therapeutic effect of MA alone and combination of MA and CP on head and neck cancer cell lines. Materials and Methods : Two head and neck cancer cell lines (AMC-HN4, AMC-HN7) were treated with MA. The cellular proliferation, apoptosis and protein expression were measured with XTT assay, FACS analysis, and western blotting, respectively after MA treatment in cell lines. In order to know the combination effect of MA with CP, the cancer cell lines were treated with MA, CP, and MA/CP combination, and cellular proliferation, apoptosis and expression of apoptosis-associated proteins were measured. Results : MA inhibited the proliferation of head and neck cancer cells and induce dapoptosis. Increase of caspase activation, PLC-?1 fragmentation and percent apoptosis by MA treatment was blocked by z-VAD-fms, but not blocked by N-Acetyl Cystein. Combination of MA and CP significantly inhibited cancer cell growth and increased apoptosis compared to MA and CP alone, and it also suppressed the expression of anti-apoptotic proteins such as XIAP and Mcl-1. Conclusions : The present study suggests that MA alone andMA/CP combination chemotherapy could be a potential regiment for the control of the head and neck cancer.

The World Health Organization has stated that hearing loss is one of the top 10 health problems worldwide and that noise-induced hearing loss is the leading occupational disease. This work evaluated the noise exposure levels of several job categories for 24-h periods over 7 days to determine the contribution of each microenvironment to total noise exposure. The noise exposure levels of 47 individuals were continuously measured using personal noise dosimeters in metropolitan Seoul, Korea. Participants ranged in age from 20 to 50?yr and represented eight occupational groups. Participants were asked to attach the noise dosimeters and complete a time-activity diary 24?h a day for 7 days. The average Leq?24?h,w among these individuals was 74 dBA, which ranged from 64 to 96 dBA. The average Leq?24?h,w was highest for Korean traditional music apprentices, followed by heavy equipment operators, firefighters, service workers, office workers, industrial hygienists, graduate and undergraduate students, and housewives (89, 77, 76, 76, 75, 71, 71, and 71 dBA, respectively, p?<?0.001). 38 (80.9%) were exposed to noise levels greater than 70 dBA, which corresponds to the World Health Organization's exposure limit.

SCPs on larvae and eggs of red-spotted apollo butterfly, P. brimeri were measured according to the method of Kim and Kim (1977) with a thermocouple, BTM-4208SD (LT Lutron, Taipei, Taiwan), to detect the release of the latent heat of fusion as body water freezed. SCP of larvae during March goes below –27.4±1.7℃ and egg scp during November goes –47.2±1.0℃. In order to identify the reason of the difference(-17℃) between egg and larva we took photographed egg through scanning electron microscope (COXEM EM-30, Korea). Chorion of P. bremeri were 100.1㎛, Papilio machaon and Sericinus montela in same family was 10.8㎛, 5.5㎛ respectively. P. bremeri was 10 times, 20times thicker than another species within the same family .
Optimal Design of IPMSM for Electric Bus Using a Sub-Domain Algorithm with Dynamic Area Sampling
Kang Young-Rok,Lee Tae-Hee,Seo Hyunuk,Lim Dong-Kuk 대한전기학회 2021 Journal of Electrical Engineering & Technology Vol.16 No.6
The optimal design of an electromagnetic machine requires enormous computation time and includes multi-optima in a design area. Multimodal optimization is a useful method for multi-optima problems. In this paper, a novel multimodal algorithm, specifi cally a sub-domain algorithm with dynamic area sampling (SADAS), is proposed. A conventional kriging has a memory problem that occurs when increasing the grid density for resolution of interpolation. The SADAS solves this problem by using a sub-domain method. Furthermore, a novel sampling method, dynamic area sampling, is proposed to improve the capability of peak search and convergence speed. The validity of the SADAS is verifi ed by test functions and it is applied to the optimal design of an interior permanent magnet synchronous motor for an electric bus.

Alpha-lipoic acid (ALA) is a naturally occurring antioxidant and has been previously used to treat diabetes and cardiovascular disease. However, the autophagy effects of ALA against oxidative stress-induced dopaminergic neuronal cell injury remain unclear. The aim of this study was to investigate the role of ALA in autophagy and apoptosis against oxidative stress in the SH-SY5Y human dopaminergic neuronal cell line. We examined SH-SY5Y phenotypes using the 3-[4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl]-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide assay (cell viability/proliferation), 4′,6-diamidino-2-phenylindole dihydrochloride nuclear staining, Live/Dead cell assay, cellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) assay, immunoblotting, and immunocytochemistry. Our data showed ALA attenuated hydrogen peroxide (H2O2)-induced ROS generation and cell death. ALA effectively suppressed Bax up-regulation and Bcl-2 and Bcl-xL down-regulation. Furthermore, ALA increased the expression of the antioxidant enzyme, heme oxygenase-1. Moreover, the expression of Beclin-1 and LC-3 autophagy biomarkers was decreased by ALA in our cell model. Combined, these data suggest ALA protects human dopaminergic neuronal cells against H2O2-induced cell injury by inhibiting autophagy and apoptosis.

Kang, Kyeong-Rok,Kim, Jae-Sung,Kim, Tae-Hyeon,Seo, Jeong-Yeon,Park, Jong-Hyun,Chun, Hong Sung,Yu, Sun-Kyoung,Kim, Heung-Joong,Kim, Chun Sung,Kim, Do Kyung The Korean Academy of Oral Biology 2021 International Journal of Oral Biology Vol.46 No.1
Demethoxycurcumin (DMC), which is a curcuminoid found in turmeric, has anti-proliferative effects on cancer cells. However, the effect of DMC on osteosarcoma has not been established. The aim of this study was to examine the effects of DMC on cell growth and apoptosis induction in MG-63 human osteosarcoma cells. This study was investigated using 3-[4, 5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl]-2, 5 diphenyl tetrazolium bromid assay, Live/Dead cell assay, 4', 6-diamidino-2-phenylindole staining, and immunoblotting in MG-63 cells. DMC induced MG-63 cell death in a dose-dependent manner, with an estimated IC50 value of 54.4 µM. DMC treatment resulted in nuclear condensation in MG-63 cells. DMC-induced apoptosis in MG-63 cells was mediated by the expression of Fas and activation of caspase-8, caspase-3, and poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase. Immunoblotting results showed that Bcl-2 and Bcl-xL were downregulated, while Bax and Bad were upregulated by DMC in MG-63 cells. These results indicated that DMC inhibits cell proliferation and induces apoptotic cell death in MG-63 human osteosarcoma cells via the death receptor-mediated extrinsic apoptotic pathway and mitochondria-mediated intrinsic apoptotic pathway.

Kang, Seung-Rok,Yu, Chang-Ho,Jung, Gu-Young,Moon, Dong-An,Park, Sang-Yong,Kim, Jung-Ja,Kwon, Tea-Kyu Korean Society for Precision Engineering 2013 International Journal of Precision Engineering and Vol.14 No.8
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of indoor horse riding exercise equipment on the young people in their twenties. We classified the effects into flexibility, muscle strengthening, and muscular reaction. Subjects performed horse riding exercise using SRider (Neipplus Co. & Chonbuk National Univ, Korea) that we developed. Twenty male and twenty female subjects were included and they had no experience with horse riding as an exercise and no medical history of falling. Exercise was performed for 45 min a day and 3 days a week during 8 weeks in a constant temperature and humidity environment. Once a week, we conducted the body-effect measurements. We measured forward trunk flexion and backward trunk extension to verify the improvement of flexibility. We also measured lumbar joint torque using the BIODEX System3 to verify the improvement of muscle strength and reaction. Our results of flexibility showed that values of forward trunk flexion and backward trunk extension after the exercise were higher than those before the exercise. It also presented that the stimulated three-dimensional movement of the horse riding exercise activated joints and muscles not usually used. Besides, the continuous movement of horse riding can reduce muscle tonus and relax stiff muscles. The muscle strengthening and muscular reaction results showed that peak lumbar joint torque after the exercise was higher than that before the exercise. We found that the horse riding exercise using indoor equipment improved flexibility, muscle strength, and muscular reaction. Moreover, we hope that this work will help us understand the exercise characteristic of this equipment.

The gonadsomatic index (GSI) of mottled skate was the highest in April, GSI and HSI showed a reverse phase for its reproductive cycle. The fish had one pair of egg capsules, having 1 to 7 fertilized eggs, and spawned all the year round. When surveying the reproductive characteristics of females over 63 cm in disc width, we found the spawning peak was between April to June, and the appearance ratio of egg capsules was the highest in May (32.1%). The eggs were hatched at $8^{\circ}C$, $13^{\circ}C$, $18^{\circ}C$, water temperature (12.8 to $24.2^{\circ}C$), and the best hatching temperature was $18^{\circ}C$. The number of fish hatched was 4 to 5 fish/egg capsules, and the hatching rate was 100%. The sex ratios of hatching larvae were 45.5% female and 54.5% male. Therefore this study will provide fundamental data and information for artificial reproduction of the mottled skate.
