Could Irisin Levels be Affected by Physical Activity in Patients with Schizophrenia?

Objective: The aim of this study was to explore the effect of physical activity and metabolic parameters on irisin levels in patients with schizophrenia and healthy controls. Methods: Ninety-six patients with schizophrenia and 63 healthy controls comprised the study population. The participants were separated into three groups: inactive, low activity, and sufficiently active according to International Physical Activity Questionnaire short form (IPAQ-SF). We measured irisin levels using Enzyme linked immunosorbent assay. We also calculated exercise levels by using the IPAQ-SF for each individual. The independent samples t test was used in the data analysis to compare irisin levels according to the activity levels of the patients with schizophrenia and controls. Results: The levels of irisin were higher in the healthy controls (p < 0.001) compared to schizophrenia groups. When the activity levels of the schizophrenia and healthy control groups were compared, the irisin levels of the low activity and sufficiently active groups with schizophrenia were found to be lower than those of the low activity and sufficiently active groups in the healthy controls (respectively p = 0.014; p < 0.001). Conclusion: Irisin levels could be affected by physical activity and these results must be supported with new studies.
Studies on the storage stability of fermented red dragon fruit (Hylocereus polyrhizus) drink

The objective of this work was to study the effect of storage temperatures and duration on the stability of fermented red dragon fruit drink (FRDFD) on its betacyanins content, physicochemical and microbiological qualities (BPM) and determining sensory acceptability. Results showed that both storage temperatures and duration have a significant effect on betacyanins content and physicochemical properties of FRDFD. Aerobic mesophilic and yeast and mold counts were lower than 1 9 103 CFU/ mL for FRDFD stored at both temperatures. The loss of betanin (16.53–13.93 g/L) at 4 C was 15.73% with no significant changes in physicochemical properties from week two onwards compared to 56.32% (16.53–7.22 g/L) of betanin loss at 25 C. At week eight, FRDFD stored at 4 C still contained 13.93 g/L betanin with a pH value of 3.46, suggested its potential as a functional drink which is sensory acceptable (mean score[80% using hedonic test) among consumers.
Study on bioaccessibility of betacyanins from red dragon fruit (Hylocereus polyrhizus)

Betacyanins are bioactive dietary phytochemicalswhich can be found in red dragon fruit (RDF). Therefore, the bioaccessibility of betacyanins that presentin fermented red dragon fruit drink (RDFD) and pressedred dragon fruit juice (RDFJ) was accessed in simulatedgastric and intestinal digestion. Results disclosed thatbetacyanins from RDFD and RDFJ suffered minor loss(\25%) at gastric-like environment but greater loss wasobserved during the intestinal phase digestion. After subjectedto intestinal digestion, RDFD retained 46.42% ofbetanin while RDFJ retained 43.76%, with betanin concentrationof 17.12 mM and 12.37 mM, respectively. Findings also revealed that RDFD exhibited higherantioxidant capacity compared to RDFJ after subjected tointestinal digestion, with values of 0.88 mM Troloxequivalent antioxidant capacity (TEAC) and 0.85 mMTEAC, respectively. The data suggests that betacyaninsthat present in RDF are bioaccessible while fermentationable to enhance the bioavailability with more betacyaninsretained after intestinal digestion.

The Second Yeon Hwa Mine which belongs to a so called Lead-Zines Belt Area in the central east Korea is located at about 10 km northeast of the Seogpo railway station on Yeongdong Line. The exploitation of the mine started in June, 1969 and furnished the machinary ore dressing plant in November, 1971. The current monthly production of rude ore is 15,000 meteric tons. The results of the study on the lead-zinc-copper deposits of the Second Yeonhwa mine are summerized as follows: (1) main ore deposits of the mine are localized in the Pungchon Limestion formation of Cambrian age, (2) related ingneous rock with ore deposits is granite porphyry, which distributed in NS and N50˚ W trend, (3) ore solution ascended along the N50˚ W trend which represents folding axis and fault plane and mineralized selectively in the limestone formation. (4) high grade ore deposits are localized in concave and convex boundaries of granite porphyry, and hanging walls of shale bed (P₂S shale bed) in Pungchon Limestone formation and (5) skarn minerals are consisted of garnet, hedenbergite, diopside, and sulfide minerals are composed of zincblenede, galena, phyrhotite, pyrite and some amount of chalcopyrite and arsenopyrite.
An Experimental Study of Reinforced Concrete Beams with Closely-Spaced Headed Bars

The use of headed bars as opposed to standard 90- or 180-degree hooked bars in beam ends, beam-column joints or other steel congested areas for anchorage and bond has become more favorable due to the fact that steel congestion is often created by large bend diameters or crossties. This research mainly focuses on evaluating the code provisions regarding the use of headed bars. Nine simply supported rectangular concrete beams with headed longitudinal reinforcement were tested under a four-point monotonic loading system. The design clear spacing, which varies from 1.5 to 4.25 times the bar diameter, was the only parameter for the experimental investigation. The test results showed that the closely-spaced headed bars were capable of developing to full yield strength without any severe brittle concrete breakout cone or pullout failure. Bond along the bar was not sufficient due to the early loss of concrete integrity. However, the headed bars were effective for anchorage with no excessive moment capacity reduction. This implies that the clear spacing of about 2 times the bar diameter for headed bars may be reasonable to ensure the development of specified yield strength of headed bars and corresponding member design strength.
A case of Autosomal Dominant Polycystic Kidney Disease mimicking recessive type in pregnant

Polycystic kidney disease(PKD) is a genetic disorder in which the renal tubules becomes structurally abnormal, resulting in the development and growth of multiple cysts within the kidney. There are two types of PKD, each having their own pathology and genetic cause; autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease(ADPKD), and autosomal recessive polycystic kindey disease(ARPKD). In general, depending on the type of PKD, these cysts may begin to develop in utero, in infancy, in childhood, or in adulthood. We report the case of a patient who is ADPKD but mimics ARPKD on ultrasound during pregnancy. A 36-year-old Primigravida visited hospital at 22 weeks gestation with suspected fetal renal anomaly. The patient had high blood pressure even before pregnancy, but did not take the medication separately. The patients underlying disease is a polycystic kidney with a family history. However, the patients had never had a genetic test. On ultrasound, the fetus showed bilateral enlarged kidney(>2SD), echogenic renal cortex, multiple small medullary cyst, and preserved corticomedullary differentiation in kidney. At that time, amniotic fluid volume was normal. Ultrasound was continuously followed, and kidney size getting bigger. On the 29 weeks gestation, other ultrasound findings were also found; increased fetal ascites, fetal hydrops (pericardial effusion, subcutaneous edema,fetal ascites), progressive enlargement of fetal polycystic kidney which occupied nearly entire abdominal cavity. On the 34weeks gestation, Cesarean section was performed. APGAR score was 5/min, 8/5min. Newborns underwent CRRT, and day of birth, got operation for unilateral radical nephrectomy. After 4 days, the newborn died. Genetic testing showed mutations in PKD1 gene. Since ADPKD and ARPKD may be confused, after birth postnatal kidney work-up with gene analysis(PKD1, PKD2) is needed. And It shows important of accurate medical history taking and ultrasound findings.
