Experimental study of a 400 V Class DC Microgrid for Commercial Buildings
M. Noritake,K. Yuasa,T. Takeda,K. Shimomachi,R. Hara,H. Kita,T. Matsumura 전력전자학회 2015 ICPE(ISPE)논문집 Vol.2015 No.6
This paper reports the experimental study of a 400 V class DC microgrid for an office building that has been constructed in Obihiro City, Hokkaido, Japan. The objective of this study is to develop a self-sustained distributed energy system by combining distribution energies, batteries, and appliances with DC power. This new DC energy system not only reduces the environment load and improves energy efficiency but also forms a community energy system that can become independent from utility grids and resistant to natural disasters. We have found that compared with AC power supply, the DC system, which uses power generated by solar panels as is, decreases CO₂ emission more than 10%.

Ko, J J,Choueiri, T K,Rini, B I,Lee, J-L,Kroeger, N,Srinivas, S,Harshman, L C,Knox, J J,Bjarnason, G A,MacKenzie, M J,Wood, L,Vaishampayan, U N,Agarwal, N,Pal, S K,Tan, M-H,Rha, S Y,Yuasa, T,Donskov, Nature Publishing Group 2014 The British journal of cancer Vol.110 No.8
<P><B>Background:</B></P><P>Limited data exist on outcomes for metastatic renal cell carcinoma (mRCC) patients treated with multiple lines of therapy. Benchmarks for survival are required for patient counselling and clinical trial design.</P><P><B>Methods:</B></P><P>Outcomes of mRCC patients from the International mRCC Database Consortium database treated with 1, 2, or 3+ lines of targeted therapy (TT) were compared by proportional hazards regression. Overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS) were calculated using different population inclusion criteria.</P><P><B>Results:</B></P><P>In total, 2705 patients were treated with TT of which 57% received only first-line TT, 27% received two lines of TT, and 16% received 3+ lines of TT. Overall survival of patients who received 1, 2, or 3+ lines of TT were 14.9, 21.0, and 39.2 months, respectively, from first-line TT (<I>P</I><0.0001). On multivariable analysis, 2 lines and 3+ lines of therapy were each associated with better OS (HR=0.738 and 0.626, <I>P</I><0.0001). Survival outcomes for the subgroups were as follows: for all patients, OS 20.9 months and PFS 7.2 months; for those similar to eligible patients in the first-line ADAPT trial, OS 14.7 months and PFS 5.6 months; for those similar to patients in first-line TIVO-1 trial, OS 24.8 months and PFS 8.2 months; for those similar to patients in second-line INTORSECT trial, OS 13.0 months and PFS 3.9 months; and for those similar to patients in the third-line GOLD trial, OS 18.0 months and PFS 4.4 months.</P><P><B>Conclusions:</B></P><P>Patients who are able to receive more lines of TT live longer. Survival benchmarks provide context and perspective when interpreting and designing clinical trials.</P>

<P>This study focuses on the outcomes of a large international cohort of patients with metastatic RCC who would not have met the eligibility criteria for clinical trials and compares these to those that would have eligible. The proportion of patients who would have been ineligible and the reason for ineligibility are also discussed.</P>

MgO Overlayer Thickness Dependence of Perpendicular Magnetic Anisotropy in CoFeB Thin Films
D. D. Lam,F. Bonell,S. Miwa,Y. Shiota,K. Yakushiji,H. Kubota,T. Nozaki,A. Fukushima,S. Yuasa,Y. Suzuki 한국물리학회 2013 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.62 No.10
The dependence of the magnetization and perpendicular magnetic anisotropy (PMA) of Ta/CoFeB/MgO/Ta on the thicknesses of the CoFeB layer and the MgO overlayer was investigated by vibrating sample magnetometer. The magnetization is found to be small for samples with a thin MgO overlayer. The PMA strongly depends on the MgO overlayer (hereafter, MgO) thickness and its maximum value of 1.74 erg/cm2 is achieved for a 1.0 nm thick MgO overlayer with annealing at 300 ◦C. The volume anisotropy of the CoFeB layer is found to be independent of the MgO thickness, which suggest that only the interface anisotropy depends on the MgO thickness. The possible mechanisms that may influence the interface magnetization and anisotropy are discussed herein.
DNA Methylation in Peripheral Blood: A Potential Biomarker for Cancer Molecular Epidemiology
Li, Lian,Choi, Ji-Yeob,Lee, Kyoung-Mu,Sung, Hyuna,Park, Sue K.,Oze, Isao,Pan, Kai-Feng,You, Wei-Cheng,Chen, Ying-Xuan,Fang, Jing-Yuan,Matsuo, Keitaro,Kim, Woo Ho,Yuasa, Yasuhito,Kang, Daehee Japan Epidemiological Association 2012 Journal of epidemiology Vol.22 No.5
<P>Aberrant DNA methylation is associated with cancer development and progression. There are several types of specimens from which DNA methylation pattern can be measured and evaluated as an indicator of disease status (from normal biological process to pathologic condition) and even of pharmacologic response to therapy. Blood-based specimens such as cell-free circulating nucleic acid and DNA extracted from leukocytes in peripheral blood may be a potential source of noninvasive cancer biomarkers. In this article, we describe the characteristics of blood-based DNA methylation from different biological sources, detection methods, and the factors affecting DNA methylation. We provide a comprehensive literature review of blood-based DNA methylation as a cancer biomarker and focus on the study of DNA methylation using peripheral blood leukocytes. Although DNA methylation patterns measured in peripheral blood have great potential to be useful and informative biomarkers of cancer risk and prognosis, large systematic and unbiased prospective studies that consider biological plausibility and data analysis issues will be needed in order to develop a clinically feasible blood-based assay.</P>

The perpendicular magnetic anisotropy of sputtered CoFeB thin films covered by MgO was investigated by vibrating sample magnetometry. Three different CoxFe80-xB₂? alloys were studied. Under out-of plane magnetic field, the saturation field was found to increase with increasing the Co content. The magnetization and interface anisotropy energy were obtained for all samples. Both showed a marked dependence on the MgO overlayer thickness. In addition, their variations were found to be non-monotonous as a function of the Co concentration.
