Experimental Investigation of Efficiency Enhancement in Solar Photovoltaic Systems Under Partial Shading Conditions Using Discrete Time Slime Mould Optimization

        Padmanaban K.,Shunmugalatha A.,Kamalesh M.S. 대한전기학회 2024 Journal of Electrical Engineering & Technology Vol.19 No.4

The Solar PhotoVoltaic (SPV) systems are the trending and commercially reputable power source abundantly served by the nature to the mankind. Partial Shading Conditions (PSC) are one of the critical concepts in the SPV maximum power extraction. PSC’s are nonlinear and fuzzy in its attributes, as it is unpredictable. Hence, it has numerous Local Maximum Peak Power (LMPP) points. Although, a wide spread of Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) algorithms are doing justice in locating the peak power points and stabilize the system, they are inadequate to locate the LMPP’s and the Global Maximum Peak Power (GMPP) point. This paper proposes a discrete time-based Slime Mould Optimization, providing an eff ective support to the buck converter based MPPT controller for SPV systems. The analysis and testament of buck converter in discrete domain alleviates the optimization in discrete samples, which accelerates the computation speed in locating the LMPP and GMPP. The proposed methodology is validated from the predominant parametric results like tracking time, power effi ciency and the stability of the system under various PSC’s. The experimental implementations are performed in MATLAB simulations and experimented with dSPACE-MicroLabBox.

Chemical Investigations and Anti-inflammatory Activity of Fixed Oil of Butea monosperma Seeds

        A. Gunakunru,K. Padmanaban,P. Thirumal,N. Vengatesan,N. Gnanasekar,S. Raja,A.T. Rajarajan,S.G. Vijaya Kumar,J. Britto Perianayagam 한국생약학회 2004 Natural Product Sciences Vol.10 No.2

The fruit and seeds of Butea monosperma (Lam) Kuntze (Fabaceae) are useful in piles, anthelmintic, eye diseases, and inflammation in the Indian system of medicine. Hence, we have evaluated the anti-inflammatory activity of the fixed oil, mixed fatty acids, and unsaponifiable matter of B. monosperma against carrageenan-induced paw oedema and cotton pellet-induced granuloma in rats. The fixed oil, mixed fatty acids, and unsaponifiable matter of the oil exhibited significant anti-inflammatory activity on the tested experimental animal models. The unsaponifiable matter of the oil produced higher protection compared to fixed oil and mixed fatty acids. Phytochemical analysis of the fixed oil revealed the presence of steroids and terpenoids while unsaponifiable matter of the oil showed the presence of β-sitosterol. Also, four fatty acids were identified in the fixed oil by gas liquid chromatography. The anti-inflammatory activity of the fixed oil may be due to unsaponifiable matter or combination of unsaponifiable matter and mixed fatty acids.

Buckling optimization of laminated composite plate with elliptical cutout using ANN and GA

        P. Emmanuel Nicholas,K.P. Padmanaban,D. Vasudevan 국제구조공학회 2014 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.52 No.4

Buckling optimization of laminated composite plates is significant as they fail because ofbuckling under in-plane compressive loading. The plate is usually modeled without cutout so that thebuckling strength is found analytically using classical laminate plate theory (CLPT). However in real worldapplications, the composite plates are modeled with cutouts for getting them assembled and to offer theprovisions like windows, doors and control system. Finite element analysis (FEA) is used to analyze thebuckling strength of the plate with cutouts and it leads to high computational cost when the plate isoptimized. In this article, a genetic algorithm based optimization technique is used to optimize the compositeplate with cutout. The computational time is highly reduced by replacing FEA with artificial neural network(ANN). The effectiveness of the proposed method is explored with two numerical examples.

Design and optimization of concurrent tolerance in mechanical assemblies using bat algorithm

        L. Ramesh Kumar,K. P. Padmanaban,S. Ganesh Kumar,C. Balamurugan 대한기계학회 2016 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.30 No.6

Concurrent designing of tolerance has become a vital concern in product and process development due to the relationship between quality, functionality and product cost. It is one of the well explored areas in combinatorial optimization. In this paper, a recently developed optimization algorithm, called Bat algorithm (BA), is used for optimizing the tolerance based on concurrent objectives to minimize the manufacturing cost, present worth of expected quality loss and quality loss. The mechanical assemblies such as Bevel gear assembly (A), Gear box assembly (B) and Suction union assembly (C) are considered to demonstrate the proposed algorithm. It is found that the BA has produced better results than other methods in initial generations for concurrent tolerance problems.

Investigations of Multi-Carrier Pulse Width Modulation Schemes for Diode Free Neutral Point Clamped Multilevel Inverters

        Bharatiraja Chokkalingam,Mahajan Sagar Bhaskar,Sanjeevikumar Padmanaban,Vigna K. Ramachandaramurthy,Atif Iqbal 전력전자학회 2019 JOURNAL OF POWER ELECTRONICS Vol.19 No.3

Multilevel Inverters (MLIs) are widely used in medium voltage applications due to their various advantages. In addition, there are numerous types of MLIs for such applications. However, the diode-less 3-level (3L) T-type Neutral Point Clamped (NPC) MLI is the most advantageous due to its low conduction losses and high potential efficiency. The power circuit of a 3L T-type NPC is derived by the conventional two level inverter by a slight modification. In order to explore the MLI performance for various Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) schemes, this paper examines the operation of a 3L (five level line to line) T-type NPC MLI for various types of Multi-Carriers Pulse Width Modulation (MCPWM) schemes. These PWM schemes are compared in terms of their voltage profile, total harmonic distortion (THD) and conduction losses. In addition, a 3L T-type NPC MLI is also compared with the conventional NPC in terms of number of switches, clamping diodes, main diodes and capacitors. Moreover, the capacitor-balancing problem is also investigated using the Neutral Point Fluctuation (NPF) method with all of the MCPWM schemes. A 1kW 3L T-type NPC MLI is simulated in MATLAB/Simulink and implemented experimentally and its performance is tested with a 1HP induction motor. The results indicate that the 3L T-type NPC MLI has better performance than conventional NPC MLIs.

Enhanced delivery of liposomes to lung tumor through targeting interleukin-4 receptor on both tumor cells and tumor endothelial cells

        Chi, L.,Na, M.H.,Jung, H.K.,Vadevoo, S.M.P.,Kim, C.W.,Padmanaban, G.,Park, T.I.,Park, J.Y.,Hwang, I.,Park, K.U.,Liang, F.,Lu, M.,Park, J.,Kim, I.S.,Lee, B.H. Elsevier Science Publishers 2015 Journal of controlled release Vol.209 No.-

A growing body of evidence suggests that pathological lesions express tissue-specific molecular targets or biomarkers within the tissue. Interleukin-4 receptor (IL-4R) is overexpressed in many types of cancer cells, including lung cancer. Here we investigated the properties of IL-4R-binding peptide-1 (IL4RPep-1), a CRKRLDRNC peptide, and its ability to target the delivery of liposomes to lung tumor. IL4RPep-1 preferentially bound to H226 lung tumor cells which express higher levers of IL-4R compared to H460 lung tumor cells which express less IL-4R. Mutational analysis revealed that C1, R2, and R4 residues of IL4RPep-1 were the key binding determinants. IL4RPep-1-labeled liposomes containing doxorubicin were more efficiently internalized in H226 cells and effectively delivered doxorubicin into the cells compared to unlabeled liposomes. In vivo fluorescence imaging of nude mice subcutaneously xenotransplanted with H226 tumor cells indicated that IL4RPep-1-labeled liposomes accumulate more efficiently in the tumor and inhibit tumor growth more effectively compared to unlabeled liposomes. Interestingly, expression of IL-4R was high in vascular endothelial cells of tumor, while little was detected in vascular endothelial cells of control organs including the liver. IL-4R expression in cultured human vascular endothelial cells was also up-regulated when activated by a pro-inflammatory cytokine tumor necrosis factor-α. Moreover, the up-regulation of IL-4R expression was observed in primary human lung cancer tissues. These results indicate that IL-4R-targeting nanocarriers may be a useful strategy to enhance drug delivery through the recognition of IL-4R in both tumor cells and tumor endothelial cells.

      • Salivary Her2/neu Levels in Differentiation of Oral Premalignant Disorders and Oral Squamous Cell Carcinomas

        Varun, Chopra,Dineshkumar, Thayalan,Jayant, VS,Rameshkumar, Annasamy,Rajkumar, Krishnan,Rajashree, Padmanaban,Mathew, Jacob,Arunvignesh, Rajendran K Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2015 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.16 No.14

Background: Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is thought to develop from precancerous dysplastic lesions through multistep processes of carcinogenesis involving activation of oncogenes and loss of tumor suppressor genes. The human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (Her-2/neu [erbB-2]), a cell membrane glycoprotein, is a growth factor receptor that has receptor tyrosine kinase activity. Her2/neu activation plays a central role in cell proliferation and survival. It has been shown that overexpression of Her2/neu increases the rate of cell division and growth, leading to precancerous changes. The aim of the present study was to compare the serum and salivary Her2/neu levels between cases with premalignant and malignant oral lesions. Materials and Methods: Fasting blood samples and unstimulated saliva by passive drooling were collected from three groups of healthy control (n=20), premalignant disorder (PMD) (n=20) and OSCC (n=25) subjects. The HER2 extracellular domain (HER2 ECD) levels were measured using ELISA. Results: The levels of serum Her2/neu showed no significant differences between any of the groups but on the other hand salivary Her2/neu levels were found to be significantly (p<0.05) higher when compared between control (median 68.7 pg/ml, range: 21.5 - 75.8) and OSCC (median 145.6 pg/ml, range: 45.1-191.1). A similar trend was observed when comparing between PMD (median 43.3, range: 22.1 -94.7) and OSCC with a statistical significance of p<0.05. Conclusions: Our study provided evidence of increased salivary Her2/neu in OSCC when compared to PMD and control which was not the case for serum levels. This suggests that probably Her2/neu is not highly amplified as in breast cancer so as to be reflected in serum. Since saliva is in local vicinity of the OSCC, even a mild increase might be mirrored. On the whole, this study proposes Her2/neu as marker for distinguishing premalignant and malignant conditions.
