        Transcriptomic Features of Echinococcus granulosus Protoscolex during the Encystation Process

        Cystic echinococcosis (CE) is a zoonotic infection caused by Echinococcus granulosus larvae. It seriously af- fects the development of animal husbandry and endangers human health. Due to a poor understanding of the cystic fluid formation pathway, there is currently a lack of innovative methods for the prevention and treatment of CE. In this study, the protoscoleces (PSCs) in the encystation process were analyzed by high-throughput RNA sequencing. A total of 32,401 transcripts and 14,903 cDNAs revealed numbers of new genes and transcripts, stage-specific genes, and differ- ently expressed genes. Genes encoding proteins involved in signaling pathways, such as putative G-protein coupled re- ceptor, tyrosine kinases, and serine/threonine protein kinase, were predominantly up-regulated during the encystation process. Antioxidant enzymes included cytochrome c oxidase, thioredoxin glutathione, and glutathione peroxidase were a high expression level. Intriguingly, KEGG enrichment suggested that differentially up-regulated genes involved in the va- sopressin-regulated water reabsorption metabolic pathway may play important roles in the transport of proteins, carbo- hydrates, and other substances. These results provide valuable information on the mechanism of cystic fluid production during the encystation process, and provide a basis for further studies on the molecular mechanisms of growth and de- velopment of PSCs.

        ZIF-8 Modified Nanofiber Composite Window Screen for Efficient Indoor PM2.5 and Formaldehyde Removal

        Because people spend a lot of time indoors every day, the presence of particulate matter with a diameter less than2.5 μm (PM2.5) and volatile organic molecular substances in indoor air adversely affect public health. These toxic compoundscan be removed from the air using high-efficiency air-filter materials with adsorption capacity. Metal-organic frameworks(MOFs) are among the most suitable materials for air purification as they are synthetic porous materials with excellentadsorption ability. In this study, the zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8) is uniformly grown on the surface ofpolyacrylonitrile (PAN) nanofibers using an in situ growth method to prepare ZIF-8@PAN nanofiber composite membranes. The nanofiber composite membrane effectively removes PM2.5 and formaldehyde from the air. After loading the optimalamount of ZIF-8, the filtration efficiency of the nanofiber membrane for salt aerosol with a diameter of 0.3 μm increases from90.3 % to 96.9 %, and the removal rate of formaldehyde becomes 98 % within 20 min in the enclosed space of the laboratory. Moreover, after five repeated tests, the formaldehyde adsorption rate remains above 80 %. In addition, ZIF-8@PANnanofiber membranes are used to fabricate anti-haze window screens, which have great potential to improve indoor airquality and mitigate related health risks.

        Optimal Isosceles Trapezoid Cross Section of Laterally Loaded Piles based on Friction Soil Arching

        The paper presents a novel analytical solution to determine an optimal isosceles trapezoid cross-section of stabilizing piles subjected to the lateral load. In view of the pile-soil interaction mechanical analysis on the friction soil arching between the adjacent stabilizing piles, a general mechanical model for analyzing the behavior of the laterally loaded stabilizing piles with isosceles trapezoid cross-section is put forward. The reasonable net pile spacing expression for all kinds of isosceles trapezoid section piles is established via the analytical deduction, and it indicates that there is a positive relationship between the reasonable net pile spacing and gradient of pile sidewall. In consideration of the strength failure possibility in the apex of friction soil arching, the complete expressions of both the gradient of pile sidewall and corresponding reasonable net pile spacing of stabilizing piles can be established. The case study of Jinle landslide verifies that the reasonable pile spacing obtained by the presented model is slightly greater than that of the conventional design scheme, which shows that the stabilizing piles with optimal isosceles trapezoid cross-section can results in reducing the investment of the whole stabilizing piles.

        Vacuum infiltration transformation of non-heading Chinese cabbage (Brassica rapa L. ssp. chinensis) with the pinII gene and bioassay for diamondback moth resistance

        Non-heading Chinese cabbage (Brassica rapa L. ssp. chinensis) is a popular vegetable in Asian countries. The diamondback moth (DBM), Plutella xylostella (L.), an insect with worldwide distribution, is a main pest of Brassicaceae crops and causes enormous crop losses. Transfer of the anti-insect gene into the plant genome by transgenic technology and subsequent breeding of insect-resistant varieties will be an effective approach to reducing the damage caused by this pest. We have produced transgenic non-heading Chinese cabbage plants expressing the potato proteinase inhibitor II gene (pinII) and tested the pest resistance of these transgenic plants. Non-heading Chinese cabbages grown for 45 days on which buds had formed were used as experimental materials for Agrobacterium-mediated vacuum infiltration transformation. Forty-one resistant plants were selected from 1166 g of seed harvested from the infiltrated plants based on the resistance of the young seedlings to the herbicide Basta. The transgenic traits were further confirmed by the Chlorophenol red test, PCR, and genomic Southern blotting. The results showed that the bar and pinII genes were co-integrated into the resistant plant genome. A bioassay of insect resistance in the second generation of individual lines of the transgenic plants showed that DBM larvae fed on transgenic leaves were severely stunted and had a higher mortality than those fed on the wild-type leaves.

        Numerical In vesti gation Analysis of Pressure Fluctuation Intensity of Axial Flow Pump within S tall R egion

        To restrain the formation of stall, the internal fl ow structure of a high specific speed axial flow pump is predicted by transient numerical simulation. The calculated results are validated by test data. The mathematical statistical theory of standard deviation is introduced to analyze and compare the pressure fluctuation intensity ( P flu ) under the design and stall operation points. The results indicate that influenced by the large scale vortices structure within stall region , P flu inside different flow passage components increases. In terms of the spatial distribution, the P flu near the inflow pipe wall of the outlet increases from the enhancement of the impeller pre rotation effect. In the impeller channel, the flow separation vortices near the leading edge of the blade and the reflux vortices at the outlet hinder the mainstream flow and cause P flu to increase. In the guide vane channel, there are high intensity vortices near the suction side and leading edge, resulting in an increase in P flu

        A Comprehensive Evaluation Method for Reliability Confidence Capacity of Renewable Energy Based on Improved DEMATEL-AHP-EWM

        With the continuous increase in the proportion of renewable energy access, reliability confdence capacity, as an important decision-making reference for measuring the contribution of power sources to the power system, has received widespread attention in power system planning and operation. It is of great signifcance to scientifcally and reasonably evaluate the reliability confdence capacity of renewable energy. This paper proposes a comprehensive evaluation method for renewable energy reliability confdence capacity based on improved Decision-Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory-Analytic Hierarchy Process-Entropy Weight Method. Firstly, construct a reliability confdence capacity assessment model for renewable energy. Secondly, based on the comprehensive infuence weight calculated by improving the DEMATEL method, the AHPEWM subjective and objective weighting method based on game theory is used to establish the renewable energy confdence capacity index system and calculate the weight. Finally, simulation verifcation is conducted using an actual power grid in the northwest region of China as an example. The simulation results demonstrate that the proposed method has good feasibility and accuracy, and can provide decision-making support for the planning and operation of the new power system.

        Capacitor commutation type DC circuit breaker with fault character discrimination capability

        Flexible direct current (DC) grids face a serious challenge in terms of rapidly isolating DC faults. A DC circuit breaker is an effective solution for DC fault isolation. To improve the fault-isolation and reclosing capability of fl exible DC systems, a new high voltage direct current (HVDC) circuit breaker topology with adaptive reclosing capability is proposed in this paper. The topology of the circuit breaker is a T-shaped structure, which has the ability to break the current in both directions and effectively reduce the cost of components. Meanwhile, after the fault is cleared, the circuit breaker is controlled to inject a voltage signal into the line. Based on this, to prevent the circuit breaker reclosing in the event of a permanent fault from having an impact on the system, a method for fault identification based on Euclidean distance that uses the voltage signal to identify the fault properties is proposed. Finally, the performance of the circuit breaker is simulated and verified by PSCAD/EMTDC simulation software, and compared with the typical existing circuit breakers to verify the effectiveness of the circuit breaker and reclosing scheme.

        Preintervention risk stratification of renal pelvic cancer and ureteral cancer should differ

        Purpose: To identify different preintervention prognostic factors between renal pelvic cancer (RPc) and ureteral cancer (Uc) and to develop different preintervention risk stratifications for each cancer type. Materials and Methods: A total of 1,768 patients with organ-confined upper urinary tract urothelial carcinoma (1,067 patients with RPc and 701 with Uc) who presented between 2004 and 2015 were selected from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results database. Clinicopathologic characteristics were compared between RPc and Uc. Univariable and multivariable Cox regression models were used to examine the prognostic ability of the clinicopathologic characteristics with respect to oncology outcomes. Results: Age greater than 75 years was significantly associated with cancer-specific survival (CSS) in RPc patients but not in Uc patients. Tumor size had a significant influence on CSS in Uc patients but not in RPc patients; in contrast, age had an influence in RPc but not in Uc. Unlike CSS, age was significantly associated with overall survival (OS) in both RPc and Uc. Tumor size had an effect on OS in Uc patients but not in RPc patients. Conclusions: The preintervention prognostic factors differed between RPc and Uc. Thus, we should develop separate preintervention risk stratification standards for RPc and Uc. Using these specific preintervention risk stratifications, we may be able to select the most appropriate surgical options for patients in the clinic.

        Oxidative stress-induced circKIF18A downregulation impairs MCM7-mediated anti-senescence in intervertebral disc degeneration

        Low back pain, triggered by intervertebral disc degeneration (IVDD), is one of the most common causes of disability and financial expenditure worldwide. However, except for surgical interventions, effective medical treatment to prevent the progression of IVDD is lacking. This study aimed to investigate the effects of circKIF18A, a novel circRNA, on IVDD progression and to explore its underlying mechanism in IVDD. In this study, we found that oxidative stress was positively correlated with nucleus pulposus cell (NPC) senescence in IVDD and that circKIF18A was downregulated in IVDD and attenuated senescent phenotypes such as cell cycle arrest and extracellular matrix degradation in NPCs. Mechanistically, circKIF18A competitively suppressed ubiquitin-mediated proteasomal degradation of MCM7, and the protective effects of circKIF18A on NPCs were partially mediated by MCM7 under oxidative stress. Intradiscal injection of adenoviral circKIF18A ameliorated IVDD in a rat model. This study revealed that circKIF18A regulates NPC degeneration by stabilizing MCM7 and identified a novel signaling pathway, the circKIF18A-MCM7 axis, for anti-senescence molecular therapy in IVDD.
